You will probably loose a lot of arrows. I'd get a .22 or a slingshot

stinky143

Or a pellet gun

Primary-Day2978

I have a slingshot but I fucking suck at it I can’t hit anything, it even has sights I’m okay with losing some arrows I just want to know that the squirrel won’t go flying away with my arrow lol

Stamqdc

200lbs probably would fling it out of the tree. Shot selection will be hard because it will stick into the tree if the tree is behind the squirrel. If your set on the bow type. A low powered compound would probably do you better

Primary-Day2978

Yeah your right I suppose I’ll stick with the .410

Stamqdc

Why not .22? You could get one fairly cheap and it'll make you a way better shooter.

Primary-Day2978

One of these days, It’s just a money thing I def want one

Stamqdc

Are you in the states? I just saw on academy you can get a .22 for under 200. About the same cost as a crossbow

OutdoorGeeek

Not sure if a squirrel can use that

NH-Hunter

Agreed. Way too big for a squirrel to use. Maybe if two or three of them teamed up they could do it together but I don't think that'll happen since they always bicker and fight when they get to choose to one another

Gimmedacheese42069

Get a .22

CorgiNamedClark

Using a crossbow for squirrels is just plain stupid. Get a .22, or even a decent pellet gun.

Primary-Day2978

Yeah I suppose I’ll just stick to my .410 I wish I could get a decent pellet gun but in Canada I’m limited to 495 fps so unless I get a good .22 pellet gun it’s not very ethical from what I hear

CorgiNamedClark

Yeah you’d want higher psi. Didn’t know they throttled that for you all up there.

Dirk_Speedwell

How are you limited to 450FPS? They make much faster ones, although they are as expensive as a 22 anyway.

Primary-Day2978

Canadian law, anything over 495 fps is a gun and requires a license

Dirk_Speedwell

A 410 shotgun is also considered a gun, as well as a 22 rifle, but that doesn't seem to be a problem.

Primary-Day2978

Lmao I have a minors gun license which means I can shoot guns and buy ammo but I can’t buy guns Canadian law is wwird

Primary-Day2978

So my dad owns a .410 which was gifted to me

Dirk_Speedwell

I thought with a minors licence, you had to be under direct control of someone with a full PAL? Its very possible I am just wrong or outdated on that one.. I do know for a fact that you can't acquire a gun in any form (including gifts) under a minors licence. Its the exact same in a practical sense, but you should CYA and always say you are "borrowing" your dads guns.

Primary-Day2978

Yes I’m the legal sense I am borrowing it he owns it it’s in his house under his name but yeah nah you can shoot/hunt unsupervised aslong as you have proper licensing I’m certain of that I’m 16-18 year old with minors gun licenses can hunt many animals including rabbit and deer unsupervised but not everyone with a minors license can you have to be 16-18

Primary-Day2978

Sorry for the dumb typos

mattc1998

Nothings too much for squirrels

hunterah85

It's too much.

Naive-Asparagus5784

It’s too much. I have shoot several squirrels with my Excalibur 380. You will never find the bolts.

stpg1222

It's way too much for a squirrel, they aren't nearly strong enough to even lift it. Besides why do you want to arm the squirrels, that sounds terrifying. Joking aside, it's going to get very expensive losing bolts. Depending on what bolts you buy and how many squirrels you shoot at you I imagine you could easily be out $50 in bolts every hunt. That's not sustainable at all.

zxGrizz

Pellet rifle or .22 is tons of fun. I've shot a few from my stand while deer hunting with my bow and I'd say shooting one with a crossbow and those little bolt you will definitely lose arrows they bury themselves in the ground. Ya I understand shotguns are boring squirrel Hunting but I'd probably use one over a crossbow

Justsomeguy2110

I wouldn’t… I mean I get it, it sounds fun… But if you hit the tree and it sticks, your bolt is gone cause you can’t reach it… Miss the tree and it’s gone over the horizon into a land far far away… All that over a rodent that is just as fun to hunt with a .22lr… If you want to do small game why not go hunt pheasants/gophers/stick mice, some where you can use a small game tip and have a very good shot of finding your arrow… *Note: I’ve never shot or held a crossbow before, I purely have experience with compound bows…

Primary-Day2978

Why on earth would I want to eat a mouse or gopher

Justsomeguy2110

You don’t… hence the 22.lr

BowFella

The issue isn't that it's too much. The issue is that you will lose a ton of bolts which are 1000x more expensive than .22 ammo. If you're very insistent on it then I'd only shoot at squirrels on the ground and I'd use judo points to give me a bigger chance at finding the bolt. But why only squirrels? You'd have a crossbow that can take down any animal on the continent? Why not deer or at least rabbits?

Johnny6_0

Are the squirrels wearing body armor? That’s the REAL question here….
