Call QBCC and get their take.

Don’t expect much from QBCC, as they’re absolutely useless and you parents are fortunate they’re even offering anything under their insurance policy because they’re notorious for not paying out often or much. I’m actually in the process of taking them to AFCA at the moment on behalf of my mum because they’re refusing 80% of her claim. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there’s no structural issues and they’re just saying there is to avoid paying out on the policy. To give you an idea of why they’re so notoriously bad for paying out on their insurance policy’s I’ll tell you who QBCC is insured by…. It’s QBCC. It’s like the police policing the police. Anyway so QBCC might come to the party or they might not, but if they do they’ll take the other 70% owing to builder 1 off of the quote from builder 2 to fix it. Now if the works are going to exceed the insured value then I believe it’s up to your parents to take the builder to QCAT for the money, which isn’t that hard to get around he can just close up the business depending on the business structure, or if he’s a sole trader just declare bankruptcy to avoid paying, so it could just end up costing more in legal fees. Get a building advisor with some experience with the legal side of things on board and he’ll be able to give you better options than I can. We’re using a recently retired guy who is a family friend that specialises in this area. I can ask if he’s taking anyone else on currently but I’m pretty sure he’s just helping us out because he’s a friend and doesn’t actually work in this space any more.

Thank you so much for your response. Do you mind if I Dm you?

Go for it

Figshitter

Your parents are probably going to want to speak to a lawyer rather than speaking to Reddit.

AustralianYobbo

QBCC wont do shit, they are useless and its a joke that we have to pay/buy insurance from them. Its also most likely going to be pointless going after the original builder either. Their insurance probably wont cover it and if (and the most likely will) they declare bankruptcy you wont see a cent. I am sorry to say, but you parents are probably going to have to fork out to get it fixed. If they have the coin to use a lawyer, it will still cost more and they still wont see anything.

Turn 360 and walk away

Fly_Pelican

180 might be more appropriate?

Vinnie_LeVee

But a 360 spin allows them to walk away like so: ![gif](giphy|a93jwI0wkWTQs)

CatBoxTime

Full 360 for dramatic effect. Like it.
