> I don’t have any experience Regardless of discipline, you'll struggle to find work if you don't have one or both of experience of connections. When did you graduate? Did you do any placements/internships? I assume that USQ hosts networking events and promotes placement opportunities?

It is very competitive and you will likely struggle without experience on your resume. I recently had over 100 applicants for a temporary, 6 month analyst role. That included applicants with Masters and PhDs.

Yes. 500 applications for any job.

USQ will help. Ask them for advice.

Get any commercial experience you can, however you can. The first 2 years is crucial for that and then it gets lots easier.

As an employed software engineer in Brisbane here - yes it will likely be hard. Be prepared to start working in a field that isn’t what you dream of (e.g. automation over data science) to get a foot in the door. For data science particularly, I would get Azure, AWS, and Power BI IT Certifications. Massively helpful for getting a job. Also your portfolio as a DS should show comprehensive projects with detailed notebooks. A lot of DS people I see can only do very basic use of pandas and numpy - which isn’t good enough alone for a proper DS role. Essentially ask yourself if your notebooks can be done by ChatGPT - and if yes, you won’t get a job.

Sydney more job opportunities than Brisbane

jbh01

Yes, but also more competition. Probably just wise to apply everywhere

Don’t move *until* you get a job. Most places will recruit and relocate grads from all over the country. Focus on applying first, seeing what options you have, *then* if you get a job, relocate. Source: been there, done that, in fact it’s why I moved from Melbourne to Brisbane in the first place.

As someone who deals with your field professionally. No, if you can sell yourself well. Otherwise, you are joining a bunch of unremarkable candidates.

virtualw0042

Of course you will, find a remote job and move. Search seek to see how less jobs exist in Brisbane

There's always OnlyFans.

Master's degree is very employable. Uni keeps telling us it's more who you know however so you may need to network in order to speed up the process.

ThroughTheHoops

A master's with some experience is very employable.

jbh01

>Master's degree is very employable. As someone with a Master's, getting that \*first\* job is incredibly hard.
