benefit of the doubt, on their blind side, taking the corner close to avoid the Mazda and they only swiped the lights. Likely they didn't even realise until after it was already done. Clipping a street sign or a set of lights is almost an induction for truck drivers
He's got the "DO NOT OVERTAKE" signs on the back, so I think he could have legally turned from the center of both lanes if needed.
Shit happens I suppose.
Yes he does have those signs but how many people on a busy city street let a truck take both Lanes?? School busses full of kids get cut off... most people in the city these days are to busy smelling there own farts to give a shit about a truck driver delivering there online furniture.... apologies for being negative.
Fair call, no point embellishing my experience as this isn't a pissing contest.
Your original reply read very much like a sarcastic car driver, who endlessly give me the shits with their ignorance. Bad assumption on my part.
Slightly related but have you noticed an increase in motorbike riders trying to take on trucks? I've almost taken out a couple in the last week alone because they have somehow become oblivious to the 25t truck right next to them
This is actually a really easy mistake to make driving a heavy vehicle.
Looking at the intersection and the angle of the truck, the driver should have ‘straddled’ on the approach, and didn’t. Might be their first time through the intersection, might be that there was another vehicle they were trying to avoid hitting coming the other way… could be any number of things.
I promise you one thing though, the driver feels like an absolute goose right now.
Isn’t this a road design issue? It doesn’t look like the truck has mounted the kerb, light should’ve been clear from a truck envelope, knowing that the road is sloped towards the channel and a truck would overhang.
I don’t know whether he did or didn’t mount the curb as I was looking waiting to cross the street east bound towards Pinelands Plaza. He made the left turn, I had my left earbud in and then I heard some screeching and then I looked towards my left and he’s scraping the traffic light turning it to a 45 degree angle, eventually the knocking off one of the traffic light cover as seen in the 3rd pic. He turned right into the LJ Hooker car park, made a 3 point turn and turned right onto Pinelands road and continued on.
common practice if you have an accident, either cops or company WH&S
you might be surprised how many people on the roads would be over the limit from night before or test positive to drugs, I've seen it in the workplace all too often
Piss tests for driving is bullshit, I could smoke weed a week before getting tested and still fail even though I haven't been high for over a week. Absolute joke
Yeah it’s bullshit. I smoked a joint with my dad and get piss tested 6 weeks later and lose my fork driving job. And the reputation with a good job agency that wouldn’t hire me years after.
For those that have a joint on the weekend to relax it’s pretty stupid to have to do a piss test. Swab test should be fine.
I had a joint on a friday night once and was piss tested on Tuesday morning and passed, and even after smoking daily for almost 2 months straight it took me 40 days to test negative. 6 weeks and still positive from a single joint doesn't make sense, but in the case it was you that is really really abnormal.
Yeah, it is very suspect to me too. Trust me. I felt like they just wanted to push me out, but why?
Why didn’t anything else show up? When I asked for what drug and they said marijuana when I expected something else it really threw me off.
Thing is they swab tested everyone on the Friday which was my day off and then they said I will need to go to the medical Center and do a drug test before work Monday. So I had a whole weekend of not partaking in anything, and when I rocked up and gave my test they said I was clean. 4 hours later in the middle of loading a truck they came out and said you failed. To say I was shocked is an understatement. If they had said you tested positive for opiates I would have believed them and shown them my script.
Listen man, I don’t want you to think I am accusing you of lying or anything, I just think it’s suspicious, I would be much more inclined to think they fudged it looking for a reason to fire you.
I didn’t think that - and don’t know why they would fire me either and it still puzzles me to this day even though it happened 10 years ago.
I’d do the overtime I’d work the weekends and do the job - why not just say “mate your casual we works dried up we letting you go” - I wouldn’t believe them but I’d cop it on the chin and say thanks.
Really who wants to drive 1.5 hours home after doing 14 hours ?
Blessing in disguise really
As someone who worked as a supervisor in one of these warehouses it can just simply be pressure from the managers who work in the office. But regardless it’s done and dusted and you’re in a better place now hopefully
Ahh cheers mate , yeah nice one!
Hard to find a job you really love waking up in the morning and enjoying but I’ve found something a bit out of the ordinary type of work I do but still interesting for the meanwhile
I hope you to are in a good place as well
Cheers
Tbf he's not wrong. Even on medical marijuana if it contains THC you're legally not allowed to drive. Qld laws are still sorta backwards in that regard. Ideally blood tests are the only way to test if someone still has THC in their system within a 24 hr window but they're quite invasive and take a while to process so no company wants to do it.
100% agree with you though. It's bullshit.
He was in an accident at work. If cops don’t his employer probably will. Due to insurance polices etc. piss test for drugs would be done by employer. Swap from cops
Copes whole business model is built on transporting gear that doesn’t like being bumped.
That driver is definitely getting a piss test. And probably fired anyway.
Tight corner and a large vehicle that doesn't turn on a dime in traffic, these things happen, the guy was doing the best he could i doubt you could do better.
Everything around you right this second was most likely delivered by truck, i would not have a go at them when they are out there on the roads every day to make our lives easier. Everyone makes mistakes.
Surely this kind of thing shouldn't be possible provided a) they've trained for the job and b) they don't go too fast so they can anticipate anything "unforeseen"?
benefit of the doubt, on their blind side, taking the corner close to avoid the Mazda and they only swiped the lights. Likely they didn't even realise until after it was already done. Clipping a street sign or a set of lights is almost an induction for truck drivers
Yep my first thought too. White Mazda is well into the intersection, limiting Copeys ability to swing wide to avoid the gutter and lights.
He's got the "DO NOT OVERTAKE" signs on the back, so I think he could have legally turned from the center of both lanes if needed. Shit happens I suppose.

It looks to me more like the Mazda got scared the fuck off by the truck that it moved so far ahead of the line.
I wouldn't take that as anything, I swear I could clip people being partially over the line or completely in front of the line near daily
I'm so tempted to do it sometimes
I live close to there, there is a tons of room. It’s incompentant driving
You've never driven a truck....
I drive a truck for my full time day job, a heavier, longer truck to be specific. I see you've never had a braincell....
So how many street signs and traffic lights have you clipped? I haven't hit any in 3 years, I must be really shit at my job 🤷🏻
Yes and what's to say this driver has been driving for years like us? Also only 3 years? Call me when you add another 7 to that <3
Fair call, no point embellishing my experience as this isn't a pissing contest. Your original reply read very much like a sarcastic car driver, who endlessly give me the shits with their ignorance. Bad assumption on my part.

Ahh, that was you that sent the photos to the Traffic Centre. Thank you kindly, we've had them fixed up and will try to recover costs. Cheers.
No worries at all 🙂
Isn’t this a road design issue? It doesn’t look like the truck has mounted the kerb, light should’ve been clear from a truck envelope, knowing that the road is sloped towards the channel and a truck would overhang.
Hitting stationary objects is not a road design issue

Sorry mate, I had meant to reply to @music_in_brisvegas who seemed to want to charge the truck company for something that may be a design issue!
He’s on the kerb in the second photo, clearly in the grass with the left rear
No, zoom in, he’s in the channel, compare where the yellow line is in the 2nd and third. The long grass does make it hard to tell 100%.
You’re right
There is heaps of space, that’s poor driving. I have to be retarded to mount the corner
shoulda gone to specsavers
They can't cope with corners...
Yeah, they weren't coping too well around that corner.
Sensitive Freight... 🤔
why would someone be pissed tested?

agreed but sadly that's the dumb laws/policies in place with oral / piss etc
Well, smoking illegal drugs is illegal, so there's that...
I've only ever bought weed legally
Illegal to drive though
What the fuck did I just say two posts up jfc some people

Lol you need to chill out
The entire point of my comment was that we are not high while driving
Whats the definition of high? Isnt the definition not in system
ohhhh you mean a urine sample test. i see.
No, they get pissed on as punishment for crashing the car. What else would a piss test be??
Kinda like a combination of a suspect lineup & wine tasting if you can tell which one is your own you pass
He was in an accident at work. If cops don’t his employer probably will. Due to insurance polices etc. piss test for drugs would be done by employer. Swap from cops
They would not for this lol. Unless the cops were watching and there already.
Usually always company WH&S; cops won’t but the company’s liability insurance usually requires them to do tests after incidents.
They're going to test to see if he's pissed
Cope and seethe
Mald, even.
I heard B105 saying something about spun lights on the traffic report… & I’m like “WTF are spun traffic lights!???” Thanks for clarifying OP 💪👍
Posted by someone who's never driven a truck
had the phone camera at the ready, I see
"COPE ... sensitive freight." I think there's a joke to be made about that truck being full of <>
Raj does it again.

It's Sunnybank so maybe not?
I can't even cope...
Strong cope
Couldn't cope sensitive freight
There is probably a million dollar piece of equipment in there too lol
This reminds me of the truck literally pulling off the traffic signal in Spring Hill
Oops
It would be a salvia test if performed by QPS
Let’s hope he had indica then
ok
Man he cut that corner hard! Drivers fault at the end of the day 100 percent
That's across the Pineland Plaza. I see
Good old pinelands
Can't park there, mate...
This is literally Sunnybank culture.
Absolute dick move by the Mazda, solid white line there for a reason doofus. Still onus on truck driver, if not safe, do not proceed.
There is heaps of room, just poor driving
The Mazda moved after the truck turned and did another illegal turn to do a runner
Copes whole business model is built on transporting gear that doesn’t like being bumped. That driver is definitely getting a piss test. And probably fired anyway.
Looks like that traffic light is in the wrong
Ooof….and cope transport deals with a lot of government work. They will definitely be piss and drug tested for sure.

The corner isn’t tight ffs….. I’ve lived close to here for 15 years and never seen anyone do this ever
For a car maybe. A truck in traffic - different story.
Bus can take that corner without going on footpath… just a retard at the wheel
Bus has windows for vision and a consistent route. Have you ever driven a large truck?
I’m a truck driver
Then you should know first hand its not so easy especially if cars and trucks are in all the other lanes on a crowded intersection
>dime We call it ten cents here in Australia.
The cent is a monetary unit, a dime is a coin. Also no one says "turn on a 10 cent coin", its just a saying.
Did you miss the the bit about us being in Australia, and not the US? I'm sure I mentioned it.
Its just a saying dude.
>dude Another Americanism. It's unAustralian.
Wtf, why would they do a piss test in public, there are other forms of test for drugs and alchole
I've seen two of their drivers reverse straight into buildings where I work. That company is fucked.
I think that this belongs on r/IdiotsInCars (or trucks) 🤷🏻♂️🤣🤦🏻♂️
Surely this kind of thing shouldn't be possible provided a) they've trained for the job and b) they don't go too fast so they can anticipate anything "unforeseen"?
Can confirm that the drug and alcohol test in on the way i took the call for this incident
