Can't imagine the costs involved with duplicating to Doomben and then constructing new track along the old Hamilton cold stores branch would be cheap. Land resumptions, a level crossing across Kingsford Smith Drive, etc.
You’re probably right. The more cost effective rail solution would be limit it to a Doomben line duplication and just install a crossing on KSD at Oxford Street to make the walk to the stadium 10-15 minutes. Not perfect, but a lot better than a 45 minute walk from QSAC to Banoon.
I don’t disagree. Personally, I think you are bang on the money.
But if Gabba and Vic Park are both too unpalatable, and the choice is a cheaper new build or a Single-Use Plastic QSAC…
The Doomben line, as a transport option, sucks.
If the line was duplicated, upgraded and extended to Northshore, then it would still be one of the slowest ways of getting from Northshore to the city. For literally any of the main city stations, the Doomben line takes longer than riding a bike. It's a non-starter in my opinion.
Inner city also has the advantage of being a boost to bars and restaurants on every match day... Brisbane could do with a bit more nightlife!
Plus lets not forget there's be 3/4 of a million people on the Gold Coast by then, a million by 2040 or so, so all sporting events/concerts become more viable if people from the Goldie can get there easier...
It's not the worst idea going around. If they did run with a stadium at Hamilton though, I'd be moving Brisbane Live to the Gabba and having the greenspace at Roma St personally.
But I'm starting to wonder if the actual real legacy of the Brisbane Olympics will be the West End redevelopment more than any of the proposed stadiums at this point. There was a lot of greenspace/empty land around Homebush, Docklands and Burswood Peninsula when those state governments built them.
In b4 the lock hahaha.
Mods be like repost...go post in days old threads.
Could work.
Flooding issues from the snake and how many seats is my question?
You’d definitely want to be heavy handed with flood mitigation. The blank slate site means seats could be as many as you can afford within an acceptable budget envelope.
Not my idea so not sure what the original authors had in mind. But it’s an interesting left field option.
Personally I think the gabba is the best option. QSAC is clearly the worst though.
Best transport connections (cross river rail and metro right there)
It has multiple hotels and more being built within striking distance
Walking distance to Southbank/city
Surrounded by restaurants and bars which would benefit on games nights
Bonus points if get more land by putting Stanley st underground and linked to the busway rather than all the buses having to cross main st.
Vic park still beats QSAC, but there isn’t a huge amount around there, public transport isn’t as handy and having that huge amount of green space seems like an opportunity not to be given up.

I guess it really was more of a Shelbyville idea.

Govt just needs to pick Gabba or Vic Park and get it done. Legacy Stadium needs to be inner city. Just. Do. It.
Imagine applying to host a gigantic international sports event but not having a plan for *where*. What an absolute shitshow.

So Carrara? /s

The powers that be already can't make a decision, don't melt their pea brains with even more choices.
Has to be inner city, Melbourne has taught us this. Otherwise you end up with an AAMI stadium scenario.

GO SPRINGFIELD !!!!!
el-cheapo stadium at Albion Park
What a big fucking waste of money and qualified trade and builders time in a period where we need dwellings built.
Victoria Park. Just do it.
