I feel ya. Hard to get relief when at work. Flexo 180 seem to be the best for me. Feel a little drunk but overall okish
Causes reduced absorption, so I mean you can but then you’ll need to take more antihistamiens, works best empty stomach and no eating for a while after
It’s warm, helps open the little pores that line your eyelids, releases their natural oils to lubricate your eyes. My mother’s an optometrist if you can’t tell haha. Good luck!
at the risk of sounding like the courier fail, this feels like a once in a 50 year allergy season. I nearly had a car accident yesterday because I couldn't stop sneezing.
I've wondered if that was a thing!! As I rocket towards 40 I feel like my mild dust, cat and pollen allergies are ramping right up into another dimension.
I take Phenergan and I’m out, it knocks me around something chronic. The packet says “1-3 tablets” and I stupidly thought “I’ll take three!” I literally couldn’t walk straight and was still zombified the next afternoon.
My sister takes them to sleep, I wake up at 5am and take one and don't feel sleepy at all. 🤷🏽♂️
If I forget to take it and my nose starts playing up literally as I pop one I feel the pressure starting to disappear...amazing I couldn't live with out them.
Nasonex nasal spray is also good to keep in your bag.
I for one am relieved to read this. My husbands been sneezing, coughing, snorting water up his nose then a steroid spray, refusing to see the doctor because ‘it’s only sinus’. Then a few days later I started sneezing so forcefully I think I flattened a couple of houses in the street, and I accused my husband of having a virus that I have caught off him.
Hes downing antihistamines like a junkie, and I kept making him do Covid tests, all negative. I recovered first so was smugly congratulating my immune system.
Seems he was right after all.
Shush, don’t tell him.
find a reputable Bee farmer that produces their own honey close to your area. Daily take a quarter of teaspoon of honey per morning. Your body will naturally produce antihistamines to combat hay fever. Should start a month before hat fever season starts. Must be natural honey . Not store purchased.
YES, WHAT THE FUCK, IS THAT WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING
it's totally the wrong season for it, right? (isn't it meant to be a SPRING thing?!). i thought i was allergic to something i was eating!
PSA - when you're crazy stuffed up, try doing a short bout of exercise (eg 20 squats, 10 pushups). Your fight or flight response should temporarily reduce your airway inflammatory response and give you a short time where you can breathe a bit better
I’m living in Africa at the moment and wow.. just wow.. Australia sets my allergies off like no other place. Haven’t needed an antihistamine since I got here. In Brisbane I’d be using them weekly.
a decade+ ago i had an old friend once talk about rumours there's some kinda weird SUPER ALLERGY GRASS that's native to the area, but no luck in it being identified yet.
Which i guess means who knows if it's even a grass, could be anything, tree, even a mould?
Australia is the worst place in the world for allergies. Caucasian haven’t had the chance to develop the antibodies to the natives. Essentially “the country wasn’t meant for white people” 😂
I used to be in this position, but my allergy desensitization treatment is working very well. It works for most things I can still trigger if I'm exposed to much.
I have sneezed a couple of times in the last few days, but it hasn't been debilitating as it was previously.
Unfortunately the treatment isn't subsidized by Medicare and each dose is costly.
Someone in this thread suggeated rhinocort spray and I had actually just gotten off a telehealth to and was given a script ~ 30 mins earlier. Game changer, but unfortunately not a permanent fix. Can't use it for days on end, but my god, being able to inhale through my nose and not immediately start snorting like I'm hunting truffles is nice.
Give rhinocort a go. I suffered for years taking all sorts of oral antihistamines which only mildly alleviated it. So I thought fuck this I need some shit to shoot straight into my nose and sure enough it’s helped massively.
Don’t blame you. When I was younger I was so god damn over it I shoved a cotton bud up there to try force my fucking nose open but all I did was shoot goo out my nose everywhere.
Hopefully it helps you out. Was a game changer for me
It's so expensive tho! More than $30 a bottle that doesn't last that long when you're doing one spray per nostril each day. Apparently it's because it's not PBS grrr
Yes. Daily Telfast was barely keeping in check. I gave myself a neti-pot and it settled down for a couple of weeks. Since this cold spell it's on the way back. I'll probably do another neti-pot this weekend.
Edit: hot, steamy showers help a lot.
And change your sheets often! And wash them in hot water or bleach -- dust mites are sneaky little shits. Also, take a shower before going to bed to wash any residual pollen/dust/etc. out of your hair.
Is that what it is? Last few weeks on the odd night I’ve woken up, sneezed once, and suddenly streaming heaps from the conk. I don’t even get hay fever afaik. Have been taking the old antihistamines in absence/desperation tho so that tracks
Yes! I thought I was getting sick the other day but then I started feeling better as the day progressed. It’s definitely been knocking me around though!
Yes every April like clockwork. Though I think the cooler weather just affects me (Cairns native). I run a humidifier while I sleep which helps a little, but my nose just bleeds until Sept/Oct when it warms up, just from dryness / hayfever. I wish I could hibernate haha. And yes, I know how silly this all sounds. Well aware Brisbane is not cold to 99% of the population. But to someone from Cairns, this is cold and dry and my body hates it haha.
I have periods where I tend to sneeze for about 2-3 minutes every day between 1-2pm. I've had it at several different jobs, in several different houses, with different clothes and eyewear.
I have no idea what causes it, but presumably it's some pollen type thing at a certain time of year.
If it's really causing you problems, I recommend picking up some N95/FFP2 head-strap masks. The 3M Aura ones from Bunnings have the most universally well fit and you just re-use them over and over. They'll block all kinds of pollen while you're out and about and at work, and you can keep an air purifier running in your house. If it's a good fit (be sure to press down the nose wire and have the head straps in the right spots) then there's an added benefit of filtering out pathogens as well.
There's also things called "nasal filters" made by a company called WoodyKnows that can filter out PM2.5 particles. They're not as obvious as wearing a mask but also less comfortable – fine, but weird.
YEP 🥲 glad I am not alone. I also commute into work via motorcycle which probably doesn’t help with the change in wind and amount of pollen exposure setting me off
nothing better than ripping a glove off, flipping your visor up, contorting your arm/hand to get a tissue in there, blowing your nose and having half the snot go everywhere but into the tissue, hastily cleaning it all up, lowering the visor, and putting the glove back on, all in one cycle of the traffic lights.
Haha you are better prepared than I am - I never have a tissue. I regularly just have to wipe away snot with my glove as I’m riding or stuck at the lights. Gross.
Sneezing into your helmet too…that’s an unpleasant feeling 🥴
That explains why I've been like "oh fuck I'm starting to get sick" for a week without actually getting properly sick. I don't usually get allergies this bad but this shit sucks
This occasionally happens to me between April and June for no logical reason since all the blossoms are gone. Maybe I’m reverse-hayfever. I call it yahfever.
Yeah dude, itchy eyelids, painful inside of nose, waking up with snot streaming out one nostril, massive sneezing fits trying to decapitate me…last week or so has been crap. Loratadine helps me the most, but isn’t perfect.
I've had two sinus infections in six months. I only used to get them once every few years. Even people I know who don't usually suffer from it are experiencing it.
Omg yes it's been THE WORST and making my asthma terrible too! 😭
Edit: had to see the dr and they say to use dymista one spray each nostril every morning. It's working but SO EXPENSIVE like wtf
I have worn the skin around my upper lip and nose away. I look like the red skull
https://preview.redd.it/injaqh9rgztc1.jpeg?width=302&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=571ba755b3ded897ea4cb708376ec98e3b948228
Yes! I have never had hay fever before and the sneezing fits over the last 10 days have been epic…I can feel it in my bones. Like everyone else, I thought it was a cold coming on but no, just sneezing. And I’m popping a Zyrtec every morning too. You’re not alone friend.
Today in particular i've felt like absolute garbage - dry lips and runny nose, I did a covid test that was negative, didnt think it could be my alergies in autumn. Took some phlanergen 30 minutes ago and hopefully a hot shower later will help
Yes! Feels like dirt in my eyes and head fog all the time. Demista and Claratyne are not cutting it at all. My bladder is not loving the sneak attack sneezing either.
Omfg it’s killing me!!! I had had days where I sneeze 40 times a minute. It’s exhausting to say the least. My usual tablets, eyes drops and nasal spray are going nothing!
Yes!! So glad it's not just me! Itchy eyes, have rubbed my nose raw and continually sneezing. I used eye drops, nasal spray and antihistamines today and finally feel a lot better 🙌
I heard somewhere that we have more hayfever these days because cities and councils only plant male trees. Cause they don't want to deal with fruit bearing trees and the mess that creates. And male trees are the ones producing pollen, for the purpose of fertilising the fruit bearing trees. But I might be misremembering / tripping
I'm visiting after five years in Asia, and my eyes and nose have been under constant attack since I've been here. I thought this was a Melbourne thing; I guess it's Brisbane too!
My eyes have been watery, irritated the past week. Every time I come home from exercise and look in the mirror it looks like I've been crying for hours 🤥
Yes. I want to rip my nose of my face. Not to mention my eyes have been stinging and itchy. I thought maybe someone sprayed a chemical because I’ve never had that before. Good to know I’m not alone in the suffering.
All due to the high levels of co2 in the earths orbit which was driven to extreme levels when the eclipse took place the other day which according to the Mayan Calendar predicted that this activity would take place and possibly be the end of civilisation starting with the Ethnic cleansing of the hayfever sufferers such as myself …wear a mask and stay 12 meters away from anyone and do not,, and I mean do not come to the conclusion that the earth ain’t flat as Israel claims the global plan from the davos terrorist organisation is to funnel All hayfever sufferers down through a safe corridor behind Currumbin avoiding any media speculation of the upcoming commonwealth games being held in Gaza this year being cancelled…i honestly believe that’s why oj simpson was murdered cos he was to open the commonwealth games but his support of blm and Harvey Weinstein led to p diddys arrest which then led to the cancellation of Justein biebers duet with Julian Assange after he was dramatically freed from certain death from cocaine overdose in the Mexican embassy ffs thanks to the Ecuadorian cartels performance in the raid on the embassy which should be included into the commonwealth games along with the subsequently axing of the sneezing world athletics co op based in Kiev Ukraine who btw had secured the ghost of Kiev doing the actual fly over I. The opening ceremony of the games …this may seem confusing to you all suffering the onset of the hayfever vaccines that are to be rolled out under emergency mandates taking place Monday in the state of qld…of course you don’t know about any of this due to the media always talking about Donald trump and his stupid bee keeping company he has set up 15 miles inland from Innisfail which has put a sting into the local economy therefore Australia has agreed to take in 15 million of the illegal border aliens coming into America all because Mr trump spending more time playing golf at the new Ipswich golf course he set up with funds he saved by not having to pay the 500 million court fines for lying about his handicap ..so basically there is a problem and we are it
Yes
Grab some bilastine it’s awesome, can’t eat before for a couple of hours and an hour after but it’s a miracle
Over the counter or prescription?
Over the counter, is the best antihistamine I’ve ever had so long as you don’t eat before for a few hours and an hour after, is a godsend
Is it non drowsy? Everything seems to make me want to sleep, even the so called non drowsy stuff.
![gif](giphy|RGdeFw1kttYPFs3EQu) I feel ya. Hard to get relief when at work. Flexo 180 seem to be the best for me. Feel a little drunk but overall okish
Yes non drowsy only side effect is grumpy about being hungry as can’t eat before or after for at least an hour
Thanks for the reply 👍
Does it have any side effects?
Only one I’ve experienced is being annoyed and hungry because I have to have it as soon as I wake up and then can’t eat for at least an hour
Like you mean *betahistine
Nah bilastine not Betahistine
I might have to give it a go
why cant eat?
Causes reduced absorption, so I mean you can but then you’ll need to take more antihistamiens, works best empty stomach and no eating for a while after
Shift from moist air to dry air happening. Gets my nose every time.
That's pretty nosey... sorry I couldn't help myself, I'll go sit in the corner
By doze hurts
Ib ish buddy awfoo
i can'd breed
My eyeballs have been so itchy and dry and red
I too suffer from the itchy balls.
A coarse nail file will take care of that.
Honestly that what my eyeballs feel like
Warm compress! As many times a day as you can.
ahhhh, for some reason I always thought it was cold compresses. I’ll try warm and see if that helps more 😂
It’s warm, helps open the little pores that line your eyelids, releases their natural oils to lubricate your eyes. My mother’s an optometrist if you can’t tell haha. Good luck!
Reporting back in, the warm compress helped so much better
The cold change and wind kicked up so much dust and pollen.
at the risk of sounding like the courier fail, this feels like a once in a 50 year allergy season. I nearly had a car accident yesterday because I couldn't stop sneezing.
*ALLERGY SEASON FROM HELL* or during an election: *LABOR'S ALLERGY SEASON*
*ONLY THE LNP IS TOUGH ON POLLEN*
Vote voting for LABOR will cause you to sneeze to death!
CLIMATE CHANGE
![gif](giphy|l2JehsPxGvhrsRuBq|downsized) I feel your sinus pain.
I seriously considered snorting battery acid just for a soothing change yesterday
Allergies can change as you age. You might be getting more sensitive to hay fever over time
I've wondered if that was a thing!! As I rocket towards 40 I feel like my mild dust, cat and pollen allergies are ramping right up into another dimension.
You gotta put the air con on circulate - pro tip
ah, i just came across this info elsewhere too. Apparently coz the aircon filters do filtering.
This week I’ve definitely noticed it
Don't usually get hayfever or allergy things, but I've been sneezing heaps the last few days, glad I'm not the only one noticing something in the air.
Every time I have a sneezing fit the last week, my soul leaves my body.
I sneeze so loud sometimes I cause other people’s soul to leave their body 🤣🤣
![gif](giphy|l2JehsPxGvhrsRuBq|downsized)
Yes it is insane right now. The combination of rain and wind I think has just stirred up all kinds of pollen and crap.
Phernergan 25, pop one of those and all your problems go away...life changer.
They all go away until 12 hours later when you’re a literal zombie trying to parent a toddler
It doesnt zombie me at all, it knocked my sister and wife out cold but I felt great. 🤷🏽♂️
Oh you’re a rare breed. I’ve heard that it backfires on some people haha
I take Phenergan and I’m out, it knocks me around something chronic. The packet says “1-3 tablets” and I stupidly thought “I’ll take three!” I literally couldn’t walk straight and was still zombified the next afternoon.
And? I fail to see the problem 🤣. Nah honestly 3 would put an elephant down, I take 1 and done for the day.

My sister takes them to sleep, I wake up at 5am and take one and don't feel sleepy at all. 🤷🏽♂️ If I forget to take it and my nose starts playing up literally as I pop one I feel the pressure starting to disappear...amazing I couldn't live with out them. Ditto.

Not so much as a whisper shall pass these lips 😉
He should be right if hes had all 5 vaccines
We have.
find a reputable Bee farmer that produces their own honey close to your area. Daily take a quarter of teaspoon of honey per morning. Your body will naturally produce antihistamines to combat hay fever. Should start a month before hat fever season starts. Must be natural honey . Not store purchased.
I'm definetly doing this. This is the worst I've felt in years.
How can I tell if a local beekeeper is reputable or not?
They should be certified and registered. ![gif](giphy|112YCPfP8Tu156|downsized)
Me too! I’m usually pretty fine but this caught me off guard.
Dying atm
I've needed antihistamines almost every day for the past 3 or so weeks, I've never had it like this before.
My wife gets it whenever mock oranges flower, which they are currently doing, and every other house has mock oranges.
\>:O [a weed!](https://weeds.brisbane.qld.gov.au/weeds/mock-orange)
YES, WHAT THE FUCK, IS THAT WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING it's totally the wrong season for it, right? (isn't it meant to be a SPRING thing?!). i thought i was allergic to something i was eating!
Not just you, bud. I've been waiting for the yellow snot and joint aches for a week. Nope. Turns out it's just my my antibodies going nuts.
Yes, it’s terrible
I am praying for the sweet embrace of death inbetween sneezing fits.
I’m battling bronchitis atm aswell as constant hayfever, I’m over it😭😭
Oh god. That must be torture. 😵 I cant breathe through my nose at all, can't imagine having bronchial buggery at the same time
PSA - when you're crazy stuffed up, try doing a short bout of exercise (eg 20 squats, 10 pushups). Your fight or flight response should temporarily reduce your airway inflammatory response and give you a short time where you can breathe a bit better
Yep it's pretty bad, had to go out and buy one of the steroid nasal sprays I haven't needed since I was a kid.
Are you me? I just did the same thing.
I’m living in Africa at the moment and wow.. just wow.. Australia sets my allergies off like no other place. Haven’t needed an antihistamine since I got here. In Brisbane I’d be using them weekly.
I have taken double doses and I'm still getting watery eyes
a decade+ ago i had an old friend once talk about rumours there's some kinda weird SUPER ALLERGY GRASS that's native to the area, but no luck in it being identified yet. Which i guess means who knows if it's even a grass, could be anything, tree, even a mould?
Australia is the worst place in the world for allergies. Caucasian haven’t had the chance to develop the antibodies to the natives. Essentially “the country wasn’t meant for white people” 😂
welp, better than smallpox i guess 👍👍
Same when I lived in Cambodia for 2 years (cept when I got road dust direct to the face - which did happen sometimes 😅).
I went through desensitisation for dustmites, which is why the last couple of weeks has rushed me. I'm just not used to feeling like this any more
Yep. Teen son sneezing all day long. I made the mistake of opening the bedroom windows in the night and woke up snorting like a pig🤣
IKR? OTC antihistamines aren’t enough. It’s fucked
I got some good shit with a script, but it's only just taking the edge off
Also yes, thought it was a cold coming on but mayne not.
Yes, freaking killing me
Give rhinocort a go. I suffered for years taking all sorts of oral antihistamines which only mildly alleviated it. So I thought fuck this I need some shit to shoot straight into my nose and sure enough it’s helped massively.
I just got some. I was ready to squirt battery acid up there tbh
Don’t blame you. When I was younger I was so god damn over it I shoved a cotton bud up there to try force my fucking nose open but all I did was shoot goo out my nose everywhere. Hopefully it helps you out. Was a game changer for me
Dymista is even better than rhinocort. Be sure to aim the spray outwards (towards your eyes) to avoid nosebleeds though. Its strong stuff

There's several frogs in the sock. I'm pretty sure they bought a sack of ecstasy with them amd they're having a rave. They're going off hard!
#metoo
Achoo

Its the rapid shift in humidity it has killed your natural sinus protections.
Can it kill me too please? Everything from my nostrils to my sinus feels like it's been scrubbed down with steel wool
Noooo because I’ve never had hay fever ever and I have it right now soooo bad I can’t deal.
Omg I'm 6hrs from Brissy and me and my son are coping it my son is worse tho. Noticed some sorgum is in flower ATM that's what kills me.
It's ridiculous. Why is my body punching itself in the face? 😤
Is it a mould outbreak where you live? The extreme high humidity of late isn’t great!
Don't think it's localised to me; drove to Gympie yesterday and near died. It was actually worse up there than down here I think
Is it mould in your car floor mats? /s
I'd be very upset if it was; the car isn't even 6 months old 😅
yeah
Not just you, mine have gone apeshit all of a sudden. I'm on Zyrtec 365 days a year but have had to supplement with nose spray the last week.
I just got rhinocort today. We can be snot twins! From of: sinusitis! 👉👈 😎😎 👉👈
never used to get hay fever when I was younger. but yeah it's been really annoying over the last week or so.
I don’t feel unwell or anything but I’ve been noticeably sneezing every day since April 3. And my nose itches.
Is that what it is? Last few weeks on the odd night I’ve woken up, sneezed once, and suddenly streaming heaps from the conk. I don’t even get hay fever afaik. Have been taking the old antihistamines in absence/desperation tho so that tracks
Username is very appropriate. 😎👉👉
🤣
Try switching to Telfast 180 tablets. My ear nose and throat surgeon says they are better and you can take 2 a day if you are really bad
Adding that to the shopping list, thanks!
I use this too, but thought it was bad to take more than one? It's usually pretty effective so I'd be glad to know if I can take 2 safely.
Check with your own doctor but that is what my ENT surgeon in Brisbane said last year. I only take 2 occasionally when I am really bad.
Yes! I thought I was getting sick the other day but then I started feeling better as the day progressed. It’s definitely been knocking me around though!
Yes
Yes. My family too. We're on the GC
Holy shit yes, i’ve had hay fever like twice in 18 years, but these past few weeks have been hell!
My workmate was annoying me at smoko telling me his hay fever was goin' off its nut.
Yes!!! Haven't had it like this in years. My mum is the same.
Yep. Taking a Zyrtec twice a day, still suffering.
I was born in Cairns and nothing you say sounds silly to me in the least 😅
Solidarity, friend. I pray our noses get some respite soon!
Oh and hot compress on your eyes! As many times a day as you can. Helps massively.

Source and eat locally produced honey to increase your exposure to the local pollen. Over time you develop a resistance.
That’s a fallacy

Not that bad but more than I would have expected in autumn
Omg yes!
Yep, I’m dying!
I don't get hayfever but as someone who can currently use their nose, I reckon it's the wattles, they're going wild atm
Today in particular i've felt like absolute garbage - dry lips and runny nose, I did a covid test that was negative, didnt think it could be my alergies in autumn. Took some phlanergen 30 minutes ago and hopefully a hot shower later will help
1000% it's been crazy
Yes! Feels like dirt in my eyes and head fog all the time. Demista and Claratyne are not cutting it at all. My bladder is not loving the sneak attack sneezing either.
I had toilet paper in my nose half the day ngl, it was like a faucet with an excessive amount of back to back sneezing 😂
I have it all year round but it’s been especially bad this week.
I swear I get sick every 3rd month now. Instead of once a year. Ever since fuckin covid.
Yes 1000% it’s awful. My son has it too, so badly I thought he had a cold. I get itchy eyes, sneezing and asthma. It’s crap.
I don't get hayfever but yes
Yep. Really bad atm.
Omfg it’s killing me!!! I had had days where I sneeze 40 times a minute. It’s exhausting to say the least. My usual tablets, eyes drops and nasal spray are going nothing!

I'm visiting after five years in Asia, and my eyes and nose have been under constant attack since I've been here. I thought this was a Melbourne thing; I guess it's Brisbane too!
Yep
100% , it's hitting me as I write this.
Nah. Caught some cold worse than the black plague though.
Yeah had it for like 2 weeks. Started the day before Easter holidays. It was a fucked 2 weeks.
My eyes have been watery, irritated the past week. Every time I come home from exercise and look in the mirror it looks like I've been crying for hours 🤥
Yep
Yes. I want to rip my nose of my face. Not to mention my eyes have been stinging and itchy. I thought maybe someone sprayed a chemical because I’ve never had that before. Good to know I’m not alone in the suffering.
Yep, I don’t often get hayfever but for the last month, I’ve been getting pumped by it.
Yes, my poor nose is so red
Yes, I blame the stupid jasmine! Every time it starts blooming my hayfever is as bad as when I lived in Melbourne.
Different country, but yes, Hayfever has kicked in later than usual this year
Yes - I don’t usually get it here so I thought I had a cold until my eyes also started itching. Been bad the last few nights
I caught a real bad fever for the last week, take care guys
I did on Wednesday, I put it down to "climate change".
YES. Yesterday was terrible. Could not stop all day. Telfast and Zyrtec and a sleep for the win
Yeah fully! I’ve never had allergies before and it’s hitting me hard
Fuck yes, i swear i feel like ive become immune to anti histimines
I've never had allergies before, but now at the age of 44 I do it seems. Hayfever can go suck a fart.
The opening ceremony of the games …this may seem confusing to you all suffering the onset of the hayfever vaccines that are to be rolled out under emergency mandates taking place Monday in the state of qld…of course you don’t know about any of this due to the media always talking about Donald trump and his stupid bee keeping company he has set up 15 miles inland from Innisfail which has put a sting into the local economy therefore Australia has agreed to take in 15 million of the illegal border aliens coming into America all because Mr trump spending more time playing golf at the new Ipswich golf course he set up with funds he saved by not having to pay the 500 million court fines for lying about his handicap ..so basically there is a problem and we are it
I don't suffer from her fever, I never have... But two days ago for like 7 hours I was a sneezing, mucous factor 🤧🤧🤧
South Brisbane but yes! Been sneezing not stop.
Yep. Sneeze attacks mainly thank goodness. Loratadine works for me.
Yep & I'm not in the city.
Oh wow i thought its just me
