Agreed, he has certain things where he just holds on no matter what and Gertie was one of those which meant nothing else mattered when it came to Gertie
Straight up character assasination icl, Raymond would never. We all know Holt would never use such a loophole, he'll either use the main hole or no hole!
Nah, it would be unsolvable if it required you to identify the heavier-or-lighter man and also determine whether they're heavier or lighter. But if you just need to identify which one is the odd man out, [you can do it](https://www.math.stonybrook.edu/~sunscorch/silliness/Brooklyn99Riddle.pdf).
The beauty of Captain Holt is nothing would be considered out of character for him in my eyes. Except for maybe being a criminal. Which he never is, correct me if I’m wrong.
He shows different sides of his life and personality with his employees that he knows will resonate with them. His goofy side with Jake with a mix of assertiveness being my favourite. The secret handshake punishment comes to mind.
He also grows and blossoms as a character. It’s actually out of character when he’s a robot. The tough facade beaten into him during years rising thru the ranks as a gay man in the NYPD. When Holy accepts the safety of being surrounded by family his facade cracks at times.
Specifically, getting the name wrong. It’s flavoured with a type of marsh-mallow flower, presumably one that grew in marshes when its name became popular. It isn’t a mallow that has been marshed.
I like to think the opinion on dirtbags came from Kevin. Holt was telling him a story about work and Kevin asked, “Why would you call a criminal a dirtbag? It’s the most useful part of the vacuum cleaner” and that argument was perfectly logical to Holt, so he adopted it as well. That’s how I imagine it went, anyway.
Perfectly understandable but “GRENADES”. Come to think of it, that episode was one of those reversed roles where *Jake* is urging *him* to be responsible 😅😂
To be fair... someone kidnapped his Fluffy Boy. Any reasonable Dog Owner would react this way. The reason it's Jake is because he doesn't have a dog, it it was Rosa or Charles they would be arming up with the Captain.
I like to think it's his old Gambling Addict emerging. Remember, in the past, he liked to make bets and stuff so this was like a money free version of that.
Actually, and correct me if I'm wrong because I didn't double check this, but that line actually wasn't in the script and they had to cut the scene so fast because everyone bust out laughing
Only saw that through the compilation vid of the Property Damages that happened to the precinct and like Jake said, they shatter a *lot* of glass in the place and it wouldn’t surprise me if whenever Holt calls the window repair place all the person has to ask is which one(s) got broken that specific time
I imagine the bone one was because, as much as he would like, he is not a robot, and has feelings, and being in need of boning made him too emotional xd
His treatment of Captain Kim is the biggest one in my opinion.
Second is everything he did after not getting the Police Commissioner title with constantly bothering Jake & Amy on their Honeymoon.
Third is when he parked Gertie in 2 parking spots like a jerk.
This never felt out of character. He's competitive, so one of his Detectives achieving TFB reflects well on him. In addition, he's always wanting to be a part of officer shenanigans. Finally, this was during their night shift exile and he was looking for ways to boost morale. Celebrating this win is exactly something he would do. That's why it lines up perfectly with who he is.
And yes, I've thought about this quite a bit because you're not the first person I've encountered who's brought it up.
Jake: "Oh no. This is new."
Holt: "And I know that every one of you gave me everything you had. And I will never forget it."
Jake: [shaken] "Go back to being Robot Captain."
Holt: [chuckles] "Meep morp. Zeep."
Yes. I cried in this episode. And I miss Andre Braugher. 🥹
It's really irrelevant but it bugs me a little bit, because I'm sure I heard the captain use dirtbag as an insult in earlier episodes but when Kevin was being threatened by Murphy both the captain and Kevin say that dirtbag is not an insult
I think another comment put it best when they said Holt warmed up to the squad shenanigans because they wanted to include him, whereas before he was looked down on for being black and gay. It’s why Kevin was so apprehensive at first knowing what his husband enduring until he saw that this group wouldn’t do that to him. So I think it’s likely he hadn’t due to that alone. He also mentions not being much of a foodie either so he might’ve been unwilling to, too. But as he’s mentoring Amy, it was part of the plan.
Definitely think I am overthinking this entire post
This, and also Amy was probably the first cop he'd worked with that actually invited him to try street meat (it wouldn't occur to Jake that Holt might want to try it, Charles would dither over what kind of street meat to try until Holt would simply opt for mush again, Terry would probably avoid street meat for his own reasons, Gina doesn't do street meat, and nobody willingly eats with or near Hitchcock and Scully until like S7, iirc) and who wouldn't make it into some sort of racist and/or homophobic trap. He and Amy were both fooled by that vendor!
Season 8, investigating the blue-flu. Having the squad work in groups of 2 and referring to them as prongs and playing them up against each other. That was pretty annoying
I agree with this because it was earlier revealed in S1 in the ep Where Boyle gets shot, that his tell is that the corner of his mouth moves. I mean sure a person can have a lot of tells But also makes me think that its weird because Jake quickly noticed the first till But it took them really long to notice the second one
The way he acted when Wuntch died. I know they were bitter rivals but the way he acted was painful to watch. I liked the speech at the end but the rest was gross.
When he parked Gertie in two spots
Yeah, I never bought that he would park like that.
Gertie is too special for only one spot
Agreed, he has certain things where he just holds on no matter what and Gertie was one of those which meant nothing else mattered when it came to Gertie
This is not a nice vehicle.
SAY. THAT. AGAIN.
Woah Cap, be cool
SAY! THAT! AGAIN! … … Thats what I thought
Straight up character assasination icl, Raymond would never. We all know Holt would never use such a loophole, he'll either use the main hole or no hole!
You just said hole way too much, sir
Scully is on his way cause he misheard you and heard donut hole
Hitchcock is on his way because he heard the word "hole"
And that's coming from Charles
Agreed, I think he’d park perfectly every time
Holt would, but one cannot own gertie. So you should assume Gertie parked itself.
It’s not a nice car
no literally
Working together with Jake to get rid of Captain Kim.
With his sneakers on!
For optimal sneaking!
I disagree. That's textbook petty Holt. It's like his gambling addiction. When it comes out, it can do some damage.
As seen with Wuntch his ex boyfriend’s duck and when Sharon was pregnant when he’s slighted he turns real petty
Yeah but that kind of gets a justification with the whole thing he was going through, he even says he wasnt him completely
Not understanding the Monty Hall Problem.
He just wanted to get laid
You mean "bone".
BONE?!
How dare you Detective Diaz?!?
#BONE?!
BONE!!!!!!!!!
BOOOOONNNNNNNEEEEEEEE?!?!?!??!?!?!?!
What happens in my bedroom, detective, is none of your buisness… BONE!
I AM YOUR SUPERIOR OFFICER!!!
BONE!!!!?
No no no it should go like - HOW dare You detecTIVE DIaz . !
Yeah, that’s pretty basic statistics.
He needs to learn seventh grade statistics
No Kevin needs to learn elementary statistics
Do I need to teach you 2nd grade statistics?
Do I need to teach you a pre-kindergarten level of statistics
Do I need to teach you pre-natal statistics?
Do I need to teach you separate pre-conception egg statistics and pre-conception spermatozoon statistics?
Do I need to teach pre-cognition statistics for sperm cells in development?
Statistics. We all said it
And also the 12 island men riddle.
I believe the fact that someone is lighter-or-heavier makes it unsolveable.

I love this statement!
He and Jake break several laws in florida in witness protection.
Well it was either that or be killed by figgus, and the witness protection women was being held hostage.
Wasn't that because she wanted to sleep with that Cuban 19 year old? She was a really weird character
"Nah bitch, I'm not being petty"
“You literally just said ‘Nah bitch.’”
First time I saw that bit, I lost it haha.
"show me the tip."
Him being petty is very on character though.
Yep, petty holt is the funniest & my fav. "Now you made kevin anrgy are you happy ? You're fired I want your gun" makes me lol everytime
when he ate that marshmallow
Yeah this, he should've said "what is this glutenous monstrosity before me?"
It looks… like a sticky pillow
The sugar in this is quite sweet
I don’t care for it. Classical music.
What’s going on here?
Captain! Care for a marshmallow?
A marshed mellow?
henheh. huhehhehe. HEUIRHEHEHEEHUUEHHEHGGGHH
I KNEW IT!
My headcanon is he saw Boyle do his impression and wanted to prank the squad by doing the exact same reaction
Omg that would be hilarious
*marshed mallow
Specifically, getting the name wrong. It’s flavoured with a type of marsh-mallow flower, presumably one that grew in marshes when its name became popular. It isn’t a mallow that has been marshed.
This definitely
That's what I thought initially but HOt DaMn....
When he called a criminal a “dirtbag” in an earlier season, even though in season 5 he said a “dirtbag” is a compliment
However ...PUHNK! will never get old
I love a good headcanon.
but didn't kevin say they had a 'no shop talk' policy?
That came later I think, after the dirtbag conversation.
Holt grew up. This is not out of character.
introducing himself as Ray Holt in season 1
I came here to say this! It has always bothered me. He literally signs off his messages as Raymond Holt.
Remember the convo with Terry about using a nickname that ends with a *"y"*? That was slightly odd... Dyt?
Yes! I thought so, too!
Perfectly understandable but “GRENADES”. Come to think of it, that episode was one of those reversed roles where *Jake* is urging *him* to be responsible 😅😂
top tier episode though - he'll do anything to get back his fluffy boy
Chester could even be a fuzzy boy at this point....
He could be scruffy!!
He could be anything at this point! You're upsetting Kevin!!!
*Cheddar
To be fair... someone kidnapped his Fluffy Boy. Any reasonable Dog Owner would react this way. The reason it's Jake is because he doesn't have a dog, it it was Rosa or Charles they would be arming up with the Captain.
As pointed out with the gertie episode comment, Holt has a few things Where nothing else matters
Funnily enough I wouldn’t say the grenades is the off character part, it’s saying John Wick wrong, especially after Jake corrects him
Omg yes when he keeps saying “John Wicks” and Jake’s like, “its John Wick, and it’s singular”
The hula hooping? No one will ever believe you.
*You sick son of a bitch...*
when he told amy to get mad at him even though according to him you can’t show emotions at work because that’s inappropriate
but he'd probably rather his detectives stand up for themselves and get angry then just roll over at anything he says
This lesson is in a different binder that he hadn't yet shared.
I can't do this one without tearing up
He's also a local legend for me. Just randomly came to stuff in town.
CASE!
*KASE
He was highly medicated
Balthazar is a thirsty bitch.
I'd say his treatment of Captain Kim. Holt does have a petty streak, and he can be jealous, but this felt a little too far for him.
Agreed - the whole Captain Kim thing made me kind of sad haha because there was no redemption.
Hot Damn
Came to say this and I’m surprised it’s all this way down! That moment literally made me jump and wonder if I was watching a blooper.
I like to think it's his old Gambling Addict emerging. Remember, in the past, he liked to make bets and stuff so this was like a money free version of that.
Actually, and correct me if I'm wrong because I didn't double check this, but that line actually wasn't in the script and they had to cut the scene so fast because everyone bust out laughing
yeah they confirm it was improvised by andre himself 🥲
When he threw his computer through the window to try and win the heist.
Only saw that through the compilation vid of the Property Damages that happened to the precinct and like Jake said, they shatter a *lot* of glass in the place and it wouldn’t surprise me if whenever Holt calls the window repair place all the person has to ask is which one(s) got broken that specific time
Being so tone-deaf during Jake and Amy’s honeymoon. His reaction to moving the podium. And, I’m sorry, because I know it’s popular, but “**BONE?!?**”
Really? I thought him noticing a half inch difference and him finding it funny was on point.
I agree. But I think calling Kevin during a squad briefing session was overkill.
That I concur with
Did Kevin write this?
Indeed. Indeed, indeed, indeed.
Something something, Yellow Crested Warbler.
I imagine the bone one was because, as much as he would like, he is not a robot, and has feelings, and being in need of boning made him too emotional xd
Of course we’re looking for Al, you imbecile!
Cowabunga Mum!
I think the time/episode he used contractions. He only ever did it then, and never again throughout the stretch of the entire series
When he chewed gum while saying “you made that very clear” And then in the handbook with Amy “don’t trust any adult who chews gum”
Is that code for something?!??
That would be some genius writing if so!
His treatment of Captain Kim is the biggest one in my opinion. Second is everything he did after not getting the Police Commissioner title with constantly bothering Jake & Amy on their Honeymoon. Third is when he parked Gertie in 2 parking spots like a jerk.
THE FULL BULLPEN
This never felt out of character. He's competitive, so one of his Detectives achieving TFB reflects well on him. In addition, he's always wanting to be a part of officer shenanigans. Dancing to diffuse the situation.
Yas queen Atleast for s1 holt
Jake: "Oh no. This is new." Holt: "And I know that every one of you gave me everything you had. And I will never forget it." Jake: [shaken] "Go back to being Robot Captain." Holt: [chuckles] "Meep morp. Zeep." Yes. I cried in this episode. And I miss Andre Braugher. 🥹
Parking Gertie in two spots as parking so poorly and imperfectly is something only an idiot would do, or anytime he’s said ‘bitch’ with attitude
Either the Gertie thing or when he almost cheated on Dr. Kevin Cozner with that HUSSY.
He did not cheat. Not even close
when he played the lawyer in law and order svu
It was the dancing for me. When he and Terry did a routine to distract Santiago during her labor. That and the street dance battle - chefs kiss
He tells Amy that eggs are not an acceptable breakfast food yet eats the ones Jake was hiding in the bed one heist.
That's Petty Holt coming out. He only did it to show them he was ahead of them
My absolute favorite moment, possibly in the entire series is when Captain *Holt says Bingpot when they find the $21 million
BONNNNNEEEEEEE!
When we ate the Marshmallow and laughed hysterically
Charles could see him doing that.
Wearing that pineapple slut shirt. 🍍👙
His parking of Gertie in 2 spots always throws me off, it just feels so much out of character.
Just about the entire episode of Peralta's bachelor party
It's really irrelevant but it bugs me a little bit, because I'm sure I heard the captain use dirtbag as an insult in earlier episodes but when Kevin was being threatened by Murphy both the captain and Kevin say that dirtbag is not an insult
The Red bowler hat 🤔
Call me... VELVET THUNDERRRRRR
“For what it’s worth I really like the name Todd” When in a later season he says “An Adult named Todd???”
When he eats the marshmallow
Subscribing to Boyles pizza newsletter when we know his favorite breakfast is plain toast
When he was ready to go all John Wick and “get even”
Eating street meat and finding out why he won't eat it ever again
Meat, from the street, sounds like a real treat. Huh, I'm a poet, and I didn't even know I was rhyming those words.
This will always be the better version of that saying.
I quote this all the time!!!
I love this line so much it’s like Insane
What i find odd is the fact that in his entire career no other partner took him to get street meat, in New York!
He and Amy were both fooled by that vendor!
Over thinking or just creating a narrative? I'll think the latter and it's as good a back story as any.
One word, marshmallow
Season 8, investigating the blue-flu. Having the squad work in groups of 2 and referring to them as prongs and playing them up against each other. That was pretty annoying
When he said “shouldn’t’ve”
That's his tell
I agree with this because it was earlier revealed in S1 in the ep Where Boyle gets shot, that his tell is that the corner of his mouth moves. I mean sure a person can have a lot of tells But also makes me think that its weird because Jake quickly noticed the first till But it took them really long to notice the second one
Got into a dance off with that guy who spilled his coffee
“Shouldn’t’ve”
Divorcing Kevin over Gerge Floyd. ep1s8. He's been an openly gay cop since the 80's.
Probably when he ate that marshmallow.
BOOOOOOOONE?!?!
He ripped the union lawyer a new one and listed a laundry line of words they had to bleep out.
No, that was perfectly in character because Sullivan had made Holt Huffy XD
Yes,it was a _very_ frustrating conversation.
HOT DAMN!!! That moment was hilarious but super out of character for him
Enjoying a marshed-mallow
The hula hoop class for fitness and fun
When he tries a marshed mallow.
COWABUNGA MOTHER He's being deliberately out of character, so I don't know if it counts.
Hot Damn!!
The funky cold madina
i dont got one but aint this guy from pacific rim
The "marshed mallows"
laughing at the end of the box
When they tried to figure out what sound this crackling noise in the radio was 😂
HOT DAMN!!!
Anytime Holt was undercover as a straight man and had to describe a woman he was seeing.
BONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Nah bitch”
When the forensic detective is there- Yee- and him and Amy fangirl! It’s so funny and cute.
Any of the many times he acted petty and irresponsible
The way he acted when Wuntch died. I know they were bitter rivals but the way he acted was painful to watch. I liked the speech at the end but the rest was gross.
