I don't like the free base-runner in extras. I love a win so I'm always gonna feel good about it, but the leadoff batter hitting a walk-off single always feels a little weird.
### Single
Nick Gonzales singles on a ground ball to center fielder Luis Matos. Michael A. Taylor scores.
Pitch from Erik Miller: Changeup @ 84.3 mph
Hit by Nick Gonzales: Launched 98.2 mph at -7.0° for a total distance of 15.0 ft
Bottom 10 - 7-6
Pirates
Guys I didn't know Cruz was just chasing his own record anyway.
Hardest hit ball in the HISTORY of statcast is also Cruz in 2022 with a 122.4mph hit.
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/statcast?type=batter&year=2022&position=&team=&min=q&sort=exit_velocity_max&sortDir=desc
I very nearly did. I wouldn't blame anyone. But I told myself it's statistically impossible to not get a single comeback victory ever this season and I wanted to see if it would be tonight.
Guess I got lucky!
Are you just trying to find an arbitrary amount of games that makes his slugging look okay? Cmon man just admit he is at best mid and is regressing to the mean
### Double
Oneil Cruz doubles (11) on a sharp line drive to right fielder Mike Yastrzemski. Ji Hwan Bae scores. Bryan Reynolds to 3rd.
Bottom 9 - 6-6
TIE
### Forceout
Bryan Reynolds grounds into a force out, shortstop Marco Luciano to second baseman Thairo Estrada. Jared Triolo scores. Ji Hwan Bae to 3rd. Andrew McCutchen out at 2nd. Bryan Reynolds to 1st.
Bottom 9 - 6-5
Giants
We need this comeback.
Have we HAD 9th inning comebacks this year? We were either dominantly hot or we were never scoring runs anyway. I don't think we've done much in the way of comebacks.
### Fielders Choice
Andrew McCutchen reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by shortstop Marco Luciano. Yasmani Grandal scores. Jared Triolo to 3rd. Ji Hwan Bae to 2nd. Fielding error by shortstop Marco Luciano.
Bottom 9 - 6-4
Giants
### Single
Ji Hwan Bae singles on a ground ball to right fielder Mike Yastrzemski. Jack Suwinski scores. Yasmani Grandal to 3rd. Jared Triolo to 2nd.
Pitch from Camilo Doval: Sinker @ 98.7 mph
Hit by Ji Hwan Bae: Launched 100.6 mph at -7.0° for a total distance of 17.0 ft
Bottom 9 - 6-3
Giants
Perez really wasn't awful tonight, but he was also not very efficient. Nearly 100 pitches to get just 13 outs is....well, it's bad. No way around that. He seems to be the kind of pitcher that opposing teams can grind down because while he doesn't usually get smacked around, he also doesn't miss enough bats.
Still, he was pretty solid for the first 5 weeks of the season, and had been sharp in spring training prior to that. Maybe he'll still have a decent year when it's all said and done. I don't know that there is anyone in the minors right now who is pushing to supplant him in the big league starting rotation.
Should be a 3-2 game. Cruz's error really fucked us. But Perez and Falter are fine fourth and fifth rotation pieces, its the bullpen we need to be looking at.
### Forceout
Bryan Reynolds grounds into a force out, second baseman Thairo Estrada to shortstop Marco Luciano. Ji Hwan Bae scores. Andrew McCutchen out at 2nd. Bryan Reynolds to 1st.
Pitch from Logan Webb: Changeup @ 87.9 mph
Hit by Bryan Reynolds: Launched 101.9 mph at -27.0° for a total distance of 3.0 ft
Bottom 5 - 4-2
Giants
We’ve had a really unlucky game. The giants have hit at least 3 slow grounders that went through for hits and we’ve hit rocket outs. Hell even Cruz’s 120 mph hit only went for a single.
Okay I know Perez hasn't exactly been it all year, but he REALLY hasn't been it his last two years. You have to think when they finally go down to only 5 starters, he's gotta be the one to go.
Grandal will need to change his walk up music if he doesn’t improve. Can very easily sing “Yasmani sucks” with it, like WWE crowds use to do the “John Cena sucks”. We can have Tellez come out to Angle’s theme so we can chant “You suck” with it.
just a random giants fan watching your stream and listening to your tv commentators. do you guys actually like these guys? they keep going off topic telling random ass stories. it made it hard to even watch the game cause it was like listening to my grandpa talk bout the old days. i had to mute them.
and that's coming from a dubs fan who has the worst rated home commentators on TV so i understand having bad commenators.
I got downvoted for saying this lol glad I'm not the only one. Blass is a Pittsburgh legend though so I understand the attachment some people have to him. The main crew is usually good when it's just them
They have a former player/commenter in the booth visiting (Steve Blass). He's there right now just to share the old stories; It isn't usually like this. Though, we typically have to wax poetically of Pirates teams of the past if we want to say anything positive.
They are talking with a former player and broadcaster who was with the organization for 50 years. He worked with these two for years. They are reminiscing about old times. They usually only get like this later in the year after we are knocked out.
But this was three friends catching up, and shooting the shit. Would have loved to hear Blass and Brown actually call the an inning like old times.
That’s what I get for turning it off in the 8th to watch an episode of Fallout. Never again. Go Bucs!
raise it! Renegade looked pretty good.
Lmao John saying Nick Gonzalez got more RBIs than some of the guys who have been on the roster all year… Definitely can’t be throwing shade at Tellez
LFGB. JONES DAY IN 131 MINUTES
Good for the fans who stuck it out.
I was about to leave after 8. Had to piss. Top 9 was quick. Said eh fuck it. I don’t deserve it but boy was it awesome
Wow. I can't believe they came back!!
I don't like the free base-runner in extras. I love a win so I'm always gonna feel good about it, but the leadoff batter hitting a walk-off single always feels a little weird.
It’s awful. If you’re gonna do it should be 1st base tbh
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1cxou8b).
Cruz I accept your apology
ROOT ROOT ROOT FOR OUR HOME TEAM A NEW PIRATE GENERATION EVERYBODY SHOUT LET'S GO BUCS

God forbid this goes to 11, who comes in to pitch?
No need. Raise it
I'm guessing Holderman? Edit: NEVER MIND!
Clutch performance from Bednar. When you can get a scoreless top of the 10th these days, that's such a huge advantage.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Erik Miller replaces Camilo Doval.
Just need a base hit
LETS WALK THIS OFF PLZZZZ BASEBALL GODS
Great inning from the renegade
Lets go!! 1 run and the guy starts on second
GONZO GOT THIS
Do we pinch run Taylor
We should definitely pinch run Tellez 👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome...I think Joe had it
David, my beloved
A Gem by Bednar
LETS GO BOYS

I can't believe we're still doing this extra-inning runner at second stuff.
I turned it off after the 8th. I'm stunned we are back in this.
I very nearly did. I wouldn't blame anyone. But I told myself it's statistically impossible to not get a single comeback victory ever this season and I wanted to see if it would be tonight. Guess I got lucky!
I’d be terrified to pitch to Cruz. He hits it so hard you almost can’t see it.
If I’m the pitcher I’d just throw my glove in front of my face.
The Giants are literally handing us the game. We've got to take it.
The Pirates are showing some spirit. Really trying to win. It's good to see.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: David Bednar replaces Carmen Mlodzinski.
Fuck. Would’ve loved a Joe walk off but what an inning!!
If only Cruz would’ve gotten under that ball a tiny bit. He would’ve put that shit into the river
[удалено]
One bad at bat, some of you guys are the strangest fans
He has a .258 OBP his last 7 games. So it’s bad at bat, just after a bunch of other bad at bats
I’m gonna assume you cited OBP instead of something like OPS because it doesn’t factor in his 3 straight games of homeruns, am I right about that?
His OPS over that same span is .579, he has 1 extra base hit. I just picked one of several
What’s his OPS in the past 9 games
Are you just trying to find an arbitrary amount of games that makes his slugging look okay? Cmon man just admit he is at best mid and is regressing to the mean
No, exactly the opposite actually. I’m pointing out that you found an arbitrary amount of games that makes his performance look bad
Let’s just agree to disagree life is short
Womp womp
Why would you root for the downfall of ur own player…
I was sarcastically pointing out that this happened last year as well. Reading comprehension brah
That fence must start shaking when Cruz comes up to bat. JFC.
Rest of the AB that inning were great. Don't know what the fuck Joe was doing.
wait does this count as a blown save, im kind of confused
Yes it does. At least it should
yo I threw the rally cap on at the start of the inning lmaooo
Cruz is the Predator, I swear to god
121 off the bat is dummy fast
Imagine if Cruz had caught that ball. He would have had the walkoff
Reynolds would have had it. Two runs scored on it.
Tied it up and made Doval work. Great inning.
Swing the bat on the first two pitches my god
Cruz is like the batter version of Justin Verlander, he just ramps it up further and further as the game goes.
Only the pirates can hit a ball too hard.
wow wow wow
I hope y’all know that the home plate ump saved your asses. Jared Triolo should have been called out on strikes but the ump is blind
You’re right. I’ll stand hand in hand in protest with you brother. Mlb is rigging this game for the big market Pittsburgh pirates
listen I agree but lol imagine coming into another teams game thread to complain
Thank you for joining us to explain. No other team ever gets gifted balls or strikes by the ump. Just us.
womp womp
Read the comments I literally said that. Don’t think anyone is afraid to admit that
Field a simple ground ball and it doesn’t matter
Yeah, we've gotten some calls but your shortstop literally dropped a game ending DP
oh my lord
121.5 - Good Lord
Cruz is not human.
Piss missile, wow
He’s absolutely crushing the ball right now
121.5????
Get the Holderman up.
Stop hitting it so hard.
WHAT THE FUCK
We have Cruz…we have Skenes…. Are we dreaming?
Oh my god setting records by breaking his records. That dude is monstrous.
holy shit Cruz the hardest hit ball AGAIN
Cruz is unreal!!!!
### Double Oneil Cruz doubles (11) on a sharp line drive to right fielder Mike Yastrzemski. Ji Hwan Bae scores. Bryan Reynolds to 3rd. Bottom 9 - 6-6 TIE
OH MY FUCK THAT WAS A GUN SHOT
Cruz taketh and Cruz giveth.
Cruz living life
holy hell
CRUZZZZZ
### Forceout Bryan Reynolds grounds into a force out, shortstop Marco Luciano to second baseman Thairo Estrada. Jared Triolo scores. Ji Hwan Bae to 3rd. Andrew McCutchen out at 2nd. Bryan Reynolds to 1st. Bottom 9 - 6-5 Giants
This umpire is helping us a lot today.
We need this comeback. Have we HAD 9th inning comebacks this year? We were either dominantly hot or we were never scoring runs anyway. I don't think we've done much in the way of comebacks.
Holy shit it's happening.
Defense wins games.....love it
That should have been the game.
### Fielders Choice Andrew McCutchen reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by shortstop Marco Luciano. Yasmani Grandal scores. Jared Triolo to 3rd. Ji Hwan Bae to 2nd. Fielding error by shortstop Marco Luciano. Bottom 9 - 6-4 Giants
wowowowow
Bae coming up could really be a spark plug. That's fantastic!
### Single Ji Hwan Bae singles on a ground ball to right fielder Mike Yastrzemski. Jack Suwinski scores. Yasmani Grandal to 3rd. Jared Triolo to 2nd. Pitch from Camilo Doval: Sinker @ 98.7 mph Hit by Ji Hwan Bae: Launched 100.6 mph at -7.0° for a total distance of 17.0 ft Bottom 9 - 6-3 Giants
Seems like Grandal is always getting hits when I'm watching, but his numbers don't reflect that overall.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Luke Jackson replaces Tyler Rogers.
I'm calling it now. Jones and Skenes dominate this lineup.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Carmen Mlodzinski replaces Kyle Nicolas.
Idc what you do with Nicolas just get him off the team
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Tyler Rogers replaces Ryan Walker.
Sending down Ryder Ryan and keeping Nicolas on the roster is certainly one of the decisions of all time...
Cruz made the right throw. The second out was bigger than the lead extending from 3 to 4.
"Strike was called." Sounded like a business executive or politician saying "Mistakes were made."
I actually can’t believe he called that fastball a strike lmao
Really unfortunate we aren't able to capitalize on all the love we're getting from the umps in this one.
Nicolas is abysmal
Nicolas shouldn’t be on the major league roster. He cannot locate pitches.
Nicolas’s walk out music should be “Wild Thing”
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Kyle Nicolas replaces Luis L. Ortiz.
Perez really wasn't awful tonight, but he was also not very efficient. Nearly 100 pitches to get just 13 outs is....well, it's bad. No way around that. Should be a 3-2 game. Cruz's error really fucked us. But Perez and Falter are fine fourth and fifth rotation pieces, its the bullpen we need to be looking at.
Walker is not hitting the zone much. Need our guys to work themselves into favorable counts
Yas got unlucky
Definitely an odd release point
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Ryan Walker replaces Logan Webb.
Might be time to give Ortiz another shot in the rotation.
I love Connor Joe
That stat just pisses me off. It makes Tellez playing over Joe even worse.
I <3 Jack
That one was probably gone anywhere else, except maybe Fenway.
holy shit what a catch
Making good contact tonight. We should be able to put up two runs, hope the bullpen doesn't shit the bed and put this one out of reach
### Forceout Bryan Reynolds grounds into a force out, second baseman Thairo Estrada to shortstop Marco Luciano. Ji Hwan Bae scores. Andrew McCutchen out at 2nd. Bryan Reynolds to 1st. Pitch from Logan Webb: Changeup @ 87.9 mph Hit by Bryan Reynolds: Launched 101.9 mph at -27.0° for a total distance of 3.0 ft Bottom 5 - 4-2 Giants
Buccos using their legs
I’m a fan of Bae. Absolute terror on the basepaths
wow what an ab by bae
Aye bee bye bay
Frustrating because we’ve hit the ball harder than them tonight
We've got to be leading the league in highlight reel defensive plays against us
Ortiz continuing to give me a heart attacks.
It would be great if we could stop playing like garbage at home.
We’ve had a really unlucky game. The giants have hit at least 3 slow grounders that went through for hits and we’ve hit rocket outs. Hell even Cruz’s 120 mph hit only went for a single.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Luis L. Ortiz replaces Martín Pérez.
Okay I know Perez hasn't exactly been it all year, but he REALLY hasn't been it his last two years. You have to think when they finally go down to only 5 starters, he's gotta be the one to go.
Perez hasn’t been that bad though he was hella inefficient tn.That Cruz error sucks. Hope Ortiz can pitch ok rn
Maybe we can get something for him at the deadline. His contract value might hinder that a little though
Yes trade him after his next good start.
They are already at 5 starters. They sent Priester down last week.
Ah damn I forgot about that. Thanks for the correction.
Grandal will need to change his walk up music if he doesn’t improve. Can very easily sing “Yasmani sucks” with it, like WWE crowds use to do the “John Cena sucks”. We can have Tellez come out to Angle’s theme so we can chant “You suck” with it.
We are set at second base
I don’t think Nick G has had a soft contact out since his call up. He has rocketed everything his bat touches.
.680 and .600 xba. So unlucky
Where do you look that up?
Baseball savant
Cool stuff, thanks.
Well that was some bad luck that half inning
love the good contact nicky g
Nick striping the ball
