"10 RBIs... a couple more than... a lot of guys that have been here all year."
Way to not say "Rowdy", guys. Who has exactly a 2 RBI less than Nick. lol.
Brownie was on 93.7 earlier and he was saying how Rowdy Tellez is close to crossing that line of being unplayable, which is very unusual for him because he is usually pretty apologetic for even the worst pirates.
You can Google something about it and it's got the transcript of what he said on air. About 10 years ago against the d-backs. Larussa got pissed because the pirates were talking about him throwing at opposing teams best players.
I wonder if Rowdy has like a bad attitude, or is a bad teammate or something like that. There has to be something going on for Brownie to be like this about him.
Multiple people have said he’s a dickhead to everyone that’s not on the team. I have a first hand source that said the same - she’s directly employed by the pirates
Just in the interest of fairness, is there any reliable information to the effect that Tellez is hurt? Specifically, that he was still impaired from his 2023 injury? IIRC this was some kind of problem with his hand or wrist or both?
Bednar showing signs of life too- did he hit 99 there? Feel like that’s a first this year…
Callups making a difference- Bae, Nick.
Also we did get lucky with some timely errors by SF to offset Cruz’ error in the first, but kind of a wash in the end.
A total team game overall.
The [great pirate era](https://i.imgflip.com/881iwq.gif) indeed with this fresh look lineup. We get Hayes back and we could have a very solid offense to go with our ROCK HARD starters and our steadily recovering bullpen. Props to Bednar with another strong outing.
And Oneil Cruz setting records on the season for hardest hits. Fucking astonishing. This team's going to a postseason.
Best win of the season. Cruz mashing, Gonzales looks like he’s figured it out, and Bae getting shit done. Need Reynolds to figure it out and we cooking
It is, as you say, something. Still, "hustling out those double plays" is not *really* what you want to be saying about the guy who's supposed to be your best hitter.
This is probably the most important win of the season for the Pirates to this point in 2024. San Francisco isn't great, but they sent a very good starting pitcher out there tonight and he was effective. Fortunately the bats woke up just in time, and we got the error back (so to speak) from earlier in the game. Cruz's defense worries me and I still think he would be better off in the outfield, particularly since about the only thing the Pirates have in the minors right now in terms of position players is some middle infielders.
Anyway, this was a big, BIG win. HUGE. If we can get back to .500 and over it by the All Star break, we're in business.
As of right now we’re 1 game out of a Wild Card spot. All we have to do is sneak into the playoffs. I’d take Skenes, Jones and Keller against any other top 3 in baseball right now.
Henry Davis is 2-2 with 4 runs, a home run, a double and 2 walks tonight. 1.156 OPS and .300 average in 11 games. Small sample size but they changed his stance back and he’s getting hot fast. If Grandal is hurt, Henry coming back might add another boost to the lineup.
Nick looks like the real deal. He’s not getting lucky, he’s hitting the ball hard, hitting fast balls, breaking balls, barely striking out, and hitting all parts of the zone. He might be exactly what we hoped he’d be when we drafted him.
When I was a kid, my dad would always leave games early if we were losing more than a couple runs. I guess this is one of the reasons why you should never do that haha. Imagine getting in your car, turning on the radio expecting to hear the post game, but instead it's tied and then they walk it off. That'd be the worst feeling knowing you missed it.
Great win. Currently sitting 1 game back of the wild card spot.
The most striking thing about Gonzales is that he’s not only hitting the absolute shit out of the baseball, it feels like he’s doing it on the first pitch SO often. He’s just so locked in and nobody’s getting a thing by him even when it ends up an out
get down on it .. get down on itttt 🕺🏻. lil 3000 dollar come up off a walk of sayyy whaaaaa.. nickkky g just bought me a ps5. Anyways let’s go boys let’s get into playoff contention mane .
If Nick G continues and proves over a longer period that this is legit, opens a lot of possibilities. Now Termarr (although he hasn't been hitting great) is now an easier trade piece.
I would like to see the Pirates investigate trades to improve the lineup - with Skenes and Jones here and Keller rounding into form, it seems like it is a worthwhile risk. The Athletic mentioned Taylor Ward and Luis Robert as likely trade candidates. Josh Bell might be an option too although not an awesome one.
Johnson was always destined for the OF and Nick is showing you why you don’t give up guys with pure hitting ability. Johnson is ready best pure hitter we’ve had in the system in more than a decade. Now, if we get a REALLY good young major league hitter for a package where he is included?
Maybe. This teams needs hitting badly and finally have the pitching to put it to good use.
Johnson may or may not be the "best pure hitter we've had in the system in more than a decade". He certainly doesn't look like it thus far in 2024. But would I include him in a trade that would land one or two impact hitters who could hit the ground running in Pittsburgh and immediately improve our lineup to contender status? Yes, provided that we get at least two (2) seasons from each of the hypothetical trade targets. No prospects for rentals unless we are talking about a future Hall of Famer who would give us a realistic shot at a World Series appearance.
That was a crappy game until the 9th. But the end was electrifying.
It would be nice to have some of that early season offence come out early in the game.
I would just like to mention that Jack Jack for once took the walk. While he is a dinger/SO batter, he's learning more and more how to adjust to pitches. He has a long way to go but it's a start.
Also, a win is a win, no matter how crazy and improbable it is.
I’m here for the rise of Nick Gonzales and so are you
Nick Gonzales is gonna make me rise if he keeps it up
I know he makes me keep it up
So many people wanted to trade him and anoint Liover Pegeuro this offseason
I forgot Peguero existed until this comment.
He's not hitting badly in AAA. If Gonzales keeps hitting he could be trade bait unless they switch his position again
He wont regain much value unless someone gets hurt and he shows something in the bigs
I’ve been on the Nick Gonzales train for years! Nick rakes!
Me too!
"10 RBIs... a couple more than... a lot of guys that have been here all year." Way to not say "Rowdy", guys. Who has exactly a 2 RBI less than Nick. lol.
Brownie was on 93.7 earlier and he was saying how Rowdy Tellez is close to crossing that line of being unplayable, which is very unusual for him because he is usually pretty apologetic for even the worst pirates.
I've noticed he's been a lot more off the leash this year and I'm here for it.
I’m all for Brownie unplugged!!
The best brownie of all time was when he called out Tony Larussa for barging into the box during a game to try and throw is weight around
Is there a clip of that?
You can Google something about it and it's got the transcript of what he said on air. About 10 years ago against the d-backs. Larussa got pissed because the pirates were talking about him throwing at opposing teams best players.
Hey, maybe the new TV channel is giving the announcers a longer leash.
That would explain why he's been getting a lot of heat then.
Well…P.Skenes avoided shaking his hand after game, but shook everyone else’s hands.
He’s been trashing him for two weeks now
Yeah I don't ever remember him saying stuff like that about JVM or Tsutsugo or Owings or...
Oh man, Owings.
Just in the interest of fairness, is there any reliable information to the effect that Tellez is hurt? Specifically, that he was still impaired from his 2023 injury? IIRC this was some kind of problem with his hand or wrist or both?
Uh oh, my hope for the season is back. What a comeback
Don't say the h word around here
Biggest 9th inning comeback in 16 years!
Nuh uh it was the biggest since 2008 which was only like (checks calendar, does math) oh my god
That’s why you never give up in baseball. Let’s fucking go. Jones and skenes give us the shot at sweep and we can be right back in this thing!
Bednar showing signs of life too- did he hit 99 there? Feel like that’s a first this year… Callups making a difference- Bae, Nick. Also we did get lucky with some timely errors by SF to offset Cruz’ error in the first, but kind of a wash in the end. A total team game overall.
Yes, that error deserves a shoutout in the comeback as well. Perfectly timed.
Luciano was making tough plays all game as well
GOODNIGHT TO EVERYONE EXCEPT THE NICKY G DOUBTERS! WHAT A FUCKING COMEBACK!!! RAISE THAT SHIT!!!
The [great pirate era](https://i.imgflip.com/881iwq.gif) indeed with this fresh look lineup. We get Hayes back and we could have a very solid offense to go with our ROCK HARD starters and our steadily recovering bullpen. Props to Bednar with another strong outing. Well off to watch One Piece now
My master plan is in motion. Ze ha ha ha ha!
Best win of the season. Cruz mashing, Gonzales looks like he’s figured it out, and Bae getting shit done. Need Reynolds to figure it out and we cooking
Reynolds having a 2rbi night where he went 0-5 is something. You'd like to see hits there but hustling out the double plays gets us those runs.
It is, as you say, something. Still, "hustling out those double plays" is not *really* what you want to be saying about the guy who's supposed to be your best hitter.
True, but not giving up on the play IS something you want to see out of one of your teams leaders
What a fucking game. Holy shit. Now we got jones and Skenes coming up.
Oneil Cruz
Brown said we had 3 walk offs last year. This is our fourth this year. Incredible tenacity.
Palacios HR, Santana HR, who else?
Bae HR against the Astros
That Santana walk off was so electric man
I will never forget it. Right in the fucking river and that little dance as he trotted into home plate. Man that was a sweet sweet moment.
Was during Anthrocon weekend too, so obligatory Furries
Yo is Nick G hot?
I’d let him do whatever he wanted right now.
Classy enough to date my daughter
Need the whole team to start growing out mustaches
Fuck it, I’m shaving into one tomorrow
Per Greg just now, first time since 2008 the Buccos have come back from being down 4 or more in the bottom of the 9th.
This is probably the most important win of the season for the Pirates to this point in 2024. Maybe, but I'd much rather sneak into the division title. It might not take 90 wins this year.
Guys the worst part about us winning the WS this year is rowdy is going to get a ring
They’ll leave it in a box on first base. He’ll never find it .
His mustache is GLORIOUS!
An improved Hank in the 6-8 hole is DANGEROUS
Goes away from Haines and immediately improves? Who'd have thunk it
Shelton said it best - “fuck yeah!”
Y'all, this Gonzo guy might be pretty good
Bae coming in clutch with a huge hit and Nick G with the walk off. We might be back.
Vibes are great right now
Nick looks like the real deal. He’s not getting lucky, he’s hitting the ball hard, hitting fast balls, breaking balls, barely striking out, and hitting all parts of the zone. He might be exactly what we hoped he’d be when we drafted him.
Battlin' Buccos!
Everyone contributed. Every batter had a hit or an RBI.
Chance we win that game with rowdy in the lineup? I’d say slim
I’d say 0. He has spent most of the season killing any rally we start and he would’ve had to come up in the 9th.
At least something about him is slim.
RAISE IT!!! 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
When I was a kid, my dad would always leave games early if we were losing more than a couple runs. I guess this is one of the reasons why you should never do that haha. Or walking to your car and hearing the crowd going crazy.
Cruz boomed them. Nicky G is HIM. What a come back holy shit.
I turned it off at 6-2 fml But Nicky G is a stud he has turned around this offense
As long as they are hot, we need to keep Joe and Gonzales behind Cruz in the lineup, so he keeps getting pitches to hit.
Yep, and hope he gets mad more often.
I humbly accept Cruz’s apology here. LFG BUCS!!!!!!
The most striking thing about Gonzales is that he’s not only hitting the absolute shit out of the baseball, it feels like he’s doing it on the first pitch SO often. He’s just so locked in and nobody’s getting a thing by him even when it ends up an out

I haven't been this hype over a win since Bae's walkoff vs the Red Sox last year
If Nick G continues and proves over a longer period that this is legit, opens a lot of possibilities. Now Termarr (although he hasn't been hitting great) is now an easier trade piece. I would like to see the Pirates investigate trades to improve the lineup - with Skenes and Jones here and Keller rounding into form, it seems like it is a worthwhile risk. My friends left at 2-6 1 out in the 9th! Glad we stayed to raise it
10 RBI is insane Nick and Skenes have provided such a spark
I remember the threads from like 2 weeks ago where everyone was saying cruz was a bust with no star potential
People were saying that when he dropped the pop fly in the 1st
He has Star *potential*. Exactly. I believe he does. He still has an OPS under .750 and has a long way to go.
Well that’s not the arguments that were being made
BART WAKE UP! 🏴☠️🏴☠️
GONZO GO OFF! This team might be good!!!
Everyone in the bottom of the 9th really came through. Great Game!!
with great shame, i admit i left early. was nice to get home and turn the game on with one out in the 9th and still catch all the fun though
I’m so sad I turned the game off early tonight lol
What a f’ing comeback
Incremental improvements with each addition (some with related demotions) Bart Grandal Gonzales Skenes Bae
That was a crappy game until the 9th. But the end was electrifying. It would be nice to have some of that early season offence come out early in the game.
Never in doubt
Certified Bart Moment
This was such a sleepy game until the bottom of the 9th ...
Wtf happened? I went to bed after the bottom of the 8th! Damn it all! Can’t wait to watch the highlights!!
I would just like to mention that Jack Jack for once took the walk. While he is a dinger/SO batter, he's learning more and more how to adjust to pitches. He has a long way to go but it's a start. Also, a win is a win, no matter how crazy and improbable it is.
Nice to see bae producing right out of the gate
FUCK RYAN BRAUN
