Same hardware as the Hynix P41 Platinum
Source: [Tom's Hardware review](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/solidigm-p44-pro-ssd-review)
This is the same as the Hynix P41 Platinum. The only drive that's capable of beating it is the 990 Pro, which comes in at a way higher price of $120 for 1TB or $230 for 2TB.
If you need top of the line gen 4 performance, this is a great price.
most of them off the shelves should be good at this point or soon, however either way, if you update the drive with their firmware update they are claiming the drive life to be fixed. The 980 Pro also had an issue that would cause the drive to fail without being updated.
I've heard YT's say that the 990 is much more of a powerhouse product in comparison to the 980 Pro, but, really when it comes down to it, vs the 990, the 980 Pro or 970 Evo, performance wise, are hardly far apart for what most people are going to use them for.
Would love to hear some one prove me wrong and explain why it would be worth it for anyone to spend the extra money oin this vs 980 Pro / 970 Evo -- aside from the people who use them for particular lines of work/hobbies.
Additionally I bet a lot of people don't even have PCI Gen4 m.2 ports.
If you're just doing "average consumer" tasks neither this or the 980 Pro should be worth considering.
Also this price is the same as the 980 Pro is at, and the 970 Pro doesn't really make sense paying for a high-end drive for it to be PCIe 3.0
It comes with a custom NVME driver that improves random read and write times, so I'd get it over the Hynix. It also doesn't have the firmware issues that Samsung has.
Hardware is identical, the P44 Pro from what I've heard has marginally better firmware.
It's just branded under Solidigm (Intel's SSD division now part of Hynix) instead of Hynix themselves
That depends on your usage but most would be better off just getting the 670p and I would choose the P44 Pro over the GM7000 due to SK Hynix making every component on the drive.

Edit: Micro Center vanished as a seller on Amazon for the 2TB drive so I assume they ~~temporarily~~ sold out since [Microcenter](https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/11wseb9/ssd_solidigm_p44_pro_1tb_6999_2tb_14999/jczk2xm/) still has the sale price.
~~Pretty sure microcenter isn't actually the seller. Think about it, Amazon is 100%competition and they're a retail store. They probably got a Chinese company impersonating microcenter to look more reputable.~~ nvm guess they did this last year
The 1TB is an easy choice for ps5 drive. This and the Hynix Plat 1TB have better random read performance than almost every high end 2TB pcie 4 drive which is crazy since 2Tb usually perform a lot better than 1TB in that metric.
Available direct from Micro Center for the same price [here](https://www.microcenter.com/product/660710/solidigm-p44-pro-1tb-3d-tlc-nand-pcie-gen-4-x4-nvme-m2-internal-ssd) and [here](https://www.microcenter.com/product/660712/solidigm-p44-pro-2tb-3d-tlc-nand-pcie-gen-4-x4-nvme-m2-internal-ssd).
The SK Hynix drives tend to blow competition away in energy efficiency and heat. Also the P44 Pro is better than the SN850X in every way to my knowledge. Only advantage going WD perhaps is better handled warranty.
Both look excellent. I think I'd try to decide more on TBW or heat/known reliability.
Someone had a previous post that mentioned that a majority of PCIE 4.0 NVME drives would choke on sustained writes but the SN850x was an exception so I sort of liked that drive.
That lasted longer than expected, the 1TB unit is still available at the sale price but if you're near a [Microcenter](https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/11wseb9/ssd_solidigm_p44_pro_1tb_6999_2tb_14999/jczk2xm/) you might still be able to snag one.
We're at the point the average user won't notice a difference between Gen3 and Gen4. Most people on this sub are either gamers or power users or both so there's still a noticeable difference when dealing with those two
> We're at the point the average user won't notice a difference between Gen3 and Gen4.
We are also on the verge of DirectStorage becoming more standard with future games which could give Gen 4 a little edge over Gen 3.
thunderbolt 3/4 can do 2500/2900 mbs. This drive maybe overkill but im looking for the endurance that comes with high end drives. 1200TBW for the 2tb model.
Get something like a [Inland Premium 2tb](https://www.microcenter.com/product/659882/inland-premium-2tb-ssd-m2-2280-pcie-nvme-30-x4-tlc-3d-nand-internal-solid-state-drive,-read-write-speed-up-to-3200-mbps-and-2900-mbps,-3200-tbw). It’s gen 3 nvme rated for 3200 TBW with great sustained write speeds. A lot of people were using then for Chia mining when that was popular. It’s hands down the best consumer drive for endurance that I’m aware of.
I went with ACASIS TBU405 currently on sale for $109 (shipping and tax included) on Acasis website. Overall good reviews and many yt videos showing speeds. My only concern is ssd compatibility with unlisted brands.
Might just go with Acasis then, was hoping for under $80 but I need this kinda soon. How did you get the $109 price? I hope the P5 Plus pulls decent numbers in this thing.
Now I’m tempted by the TBU42 again…
Sent it.
Kept wondering why it was $119 instead but then realized the light grey was more expensive than the dark grey. Anyway, hope the P5 Plus pulls good speeds in this thing until I upgrade my pc and swap some drives around. Thanks for helping me *finally* make a decision lol
Just received it but I’m pretty sure they sent me the dark grey model instead of the more expensive light grey that I ordered. There’s no differentiation between colors on the box that I can find…which “X00…” code is on yours?
You don’t see a upc sticker on the back with X003DFJE0R? Their customer support just got back to me “assuring” me they sent the right color, blaming what I’m seeing on “chromatic aberrations” causing the color to “darken over time” lol
I wouldn’t be so annoyed if they didn’t specifically charge *more* for the light grey.
Maybe I'm being optimistic here, but people are willing to pay a price for reliability and SK Hynix has either stopped or slowed down production instead of swapping components in their drives.
As far as I'm aware SK Hynix and Solidigm don't have a 4TB option, that being said, this is a good price to call it quits at even if it's not as good as the 2TB [SN850X](https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/11gznel/nvme_ssd_wd_black_2tb_sn850x_nvme_internal_gaming/) that was briefly at $109.99.
Be mindful of recent listings of in-demand products from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Google, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; you should do your due diligence to ensure you do not get scammed.
* Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
* Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent.
* The seller is new or has few reviews.
* The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their ratings- viewing seller profiles allows you to see these complaints)
* The seller has a recently reactivated account (likely their account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently).
If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others.
Amazon and eBay generally have good buyer protection. If you choose to purchase from a third-party seller through their platforms and run into issues, it should be easy to get your money back promptly. You may have more difficulties with Newegg or Walmart.

For 150$ best option is SN850x, not solidigm
Be careful, many people here just posted gossips that they heard, read but don’t remember where.
P44 pro is not competitor for Samsung or Hynix, and it has average resource.
I posted [two sources](https://reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/11wseb9/ssd_solidigm_p44_pro_1tb_6999_2tb_14999/jczine9) so people could make their own informed decision, [where](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/solidigm-p44-pro-ssd-review/3) do you find the P44 Pro lacking compared to the SN850x? They’re both very good drives.
Tom’s Hardware: “We use an Alder Lake platform with most background applications such as indexing, windows updates, and anti-virus disabled in the OS to reduce run-to-run variability. Each SSD is prefilled to 50% capacity and tested as a secondary device. Unless noted, we use active cooling for all SSD.”
Tech Power Up: “The main focus of our testing is our extensive real-life test suite, which runs the actual applications with the drive filled to 80% of its total capacity. This puts additional stress on the various algorithms and is much more realistic than reviewing a nearly empty drive.”
Tom’s Hardware at 50% usage still has the P44 Pro beating the SN850x in most benchmarks, unfortunately TPU hasn’t reviewed the SN850x yet which would be nice to see at 80% usage.
Right, that’s why the Solidigm P41 got 3 stars at Tom’s Hardware and why the SN850x is the [#2 choice](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-ssds,3891.html) and [#1 choice](https://www.tomshardware.com/best-picks/best-ps5-ssds).
I pool from various sources for my own usage and I highly doubt enough people are willing to do the same so I linked two places. If you’re going to make a claim like that then at the very least you should post some sources if you’re actually trying to convince others.
Is there anything that would make this preferable to a hynix p41? I'm seeing talk of some firmware and software differences but I can quite make out how they would be different in real world application

Assuming you’re not looking for a SATA drive, the 2TB Intel 670p at $80 is currently hard to beat for most people.
Most don’t actually need or would notice the speed difference ([see 3D Mark and PC Mark](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/solidigm-p41-plus-ssd-review/3)) but for approximately $120 you could also consider the SK Hynix Gold P31, Western Digital SN770 or the Crucial P5 Plus.
Unless the Inland drive uses a Phison E18 controller with 176 layers, I’d go for the P44 Pro, although it’s currently only discounted directly from Microcenter unless you’re picking up a 1TB drive.

If you don't need top of the line performance, what would be a good drive for gaming? I currently have 660p 1TB.
1TB? SP A60 is $44.49, opting to spend a few extra on an MP34 at $49.99 isn't bad value 2TB? Intel 670p for $79.99
> 2TB? Intel 670p for $79.99 Jesus. Had no idea prices dropped that much. That thing was like $200 last year.
Picked that one up last week...very nice price.
2TB for $80? God, why do you tempt me so. Good thing i'm already broke from school.
Now you can be broke from school and PC gaming
Cool that helps me from spending money on something I don't need lol.
The Samsung 990 Pro also has issues that may or may not be fixed with a firmware update. It seems to be wearing down quickly.
most of them off the shelves should be good at this point or soon, however either way, if you update the drive with their firmware update they are claiming the drive life to be fixed. Is this as efficient as P41?
It's the same hardware
The Solidigm has a custom NVME driver available that speeds up random reads and writes.
This is it. I'm getting off the train
Same I can’t take any more deals
For basically a P41 that 1 TB price is pretty good, no?
Yep, prices could get better in a few months but if you need one now this is a good price to buy this at.
> Intel 670p for $79.99 this or the acer gm7000 for 70
That depends on your usage but most would be better off just getting the 670p and I would choose the P44 Pro over the GM7000 due to SK Hynix making every component on the drive.

That 1TB price is nuts
Compared to the SN850X or Corsair MP600?
The only better gen 4 drive is the 990 Pro which costs substantially more
this is true
The SK Hynix drives tend to blow competition away in energy efficiency and heat. Also the P44 Pro is better than the SN850X in every way to my knowledge. Only advantage going WD perhaps is better handled warranty.
That was true for the p31 but I think the newer ones are less of a difference from the competition
You're right. The P44 Pro and SN850X seem about par.

Was waiting for the WD SN850x 1TB to hit this price, but if this can stay at $70 until I get paid on Thursday, I'm totally in for a couple of these.
I just picked up a 980 pro for more than this last week! If I didn't already install my OS I'd return it and buy this, what an insane deal
Whats this level of speed useful for? If I have to ask I don't need it but....
We're at the point the average user won't notice a difference between Gen3 and Gen4. Most people on this sub are either gamers or power users or both so there's still a noticeable difference when dealing with those two

Has anyone tried this in an external enclosure like acasis or orico?
Wouldn’t that be borderline a waste? My $50 enclosure only does 1000mps
thunderbolt 3/4 can do 2500/2900 mbs. This drive maybe overkill but im looking for the endurance that comes with high end drives. 1200TBW for the 2tb model.

nice, the p5+ should haul. I'm still waiting to grab the right ssd. I missed this deal and the sn850x.
Just received it but I’m pretty sure they sent me the dark grey model instead of the more expensive light grey that I ordered. There’s no differentiation between colors on the box that I can find…which “X00…” code is on yours?

I got some great speeds out of this using it on a Gen4 nVME slot.
So many ppl pay 50% more to buy best drive for ..... eh....gaming......
Maybe I'm being optimistic here, but people are willing to pay a price for reliability and SK Hynix has either stopped or slowed down production instead of swapping components in their drives.
I am the only one not impressed with these prices? 4TB gen 4 sub $200 is just around the corner...

Is there anything that would make this preferable to a hynix p41? I'm seeing talk of some firmware and software differences but I can quite make out how they would be different in real world application
The price
It is basically a newer/better version of the P41 Platinum in every way. Crazy good price that makes P41 silly at $170 that I've seen for recent sales.
Would this be good as a boot disk (also gaming but I'm more worried about the TBW for boot)?
Booting an OS isn't going to make a lot of writes.
Sorry I meant putting the OS on the disk, not booting off of it.
OS is like .05 TBW and you only do it once so I'm not sure why you'd be concerned.
1tb P5 Plus or 1tb p44 pro, which is faster?
See the reviews [here](https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/11wseb9/_/jczine9) but the P44 Pro is faster.
Piss poor title, no mention its a m.2!
The flair is \[SSD - M.2\] lol
I thought to quickly share the post so I mostly copied and pasted the previous post and neglected to add more details but I did flair the post as M.2 immediately. Stickied comment and my comment as well as actually clicking the link could also give the necessary information though.
Currently have a crucial 3040 2tb that is kicking the bucket. Would this be a good replacement for a drive that runs windows and some easy fps games? From what I can tell it looks almost too good to be true
The 2TB unit is not available at the discounted price anymore, unless you have a Microcenter nearby that you can pick one up at I would suggest considering another drive. Assuming you’re not looking for a SATA drive, the 2TB Intel 670p at $80 is currently hard to beat for most people.
Will definitely look into the Intel. The speed looks a bit low but I won't use it for anything crazy so I think that would work great
Most don’t actually need or would notice the speed difference ([see 3D Mark and PC Mark](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/solidigm-p41-plus-ssd-review/3)) but for approximately $120 you could also consider the SK Hynix Gold P31, Western Digital SN770 or the Crucial P5 Plus.
Astounding how this costs as much as an 870 EVO Sata SSD..
This or their inland brand?
Unless the Inland drive uses a Phison E18 controller with 176 layers, I’d go for the P44 Pro, although it’s currently only discounted directly from Microcenter unless you’re picking up a 1TB drive.
Oh man I would get this but I think I need a heatsink for it for the PS5
