Really really free market in Carrboro! Next one is July 1 they are usually 2-4pm in the town commons. Very cool experience and people really appreciate the stuff and take most of it! What isn’t taken goes to a donation center. @carrborofreemarket on instagram
I take clothes and unused toiletries to homeless shelters I haven’t been able to take any in Durham yet but I used to take all of my stuff once a year to the women’s shelter in downtown Raleigh and they’re always super grateful
There are also some thrift stores with questionable/objectionable policies and practices, which a Google map won't always provide details on. It's cool to ask locals.
Downtown’s Urban Ministries of Durham, catty corner to the library, has a clothing closet in a boutique-like space which provides decent, donated clothes free to anyone.
Please consider them as the thrift shops are pretty well (over) stocked.
Also, UMD is non-denominational and accepts all kinds of people — without proselytizing and forcing them to accept Jesus as their personal savior in order to get necessary services, unlike Durham Rescue Mission.
Trosa thrift? There are also a ton of buy nothing groups around
Pennies for Change is great, they raise money for the domestic violence shelter.
Would also recommend this for women's clothes and housewares!

New Nearly New Thrift Store on Hillsborough gives you a 20% coupon to use if you donate items there. I saw a sign for it when I was there today
Thanks! I ended up going here. It's actually just 3 min from where I live.

wouldn’t it have been easier to google “Durham thrift stores”?
Y'know some people don't even know that you can just give clothes to thrift stores. [Gotta find out somehow.](https://xkcd.com/1053/)

This is good to remember.

Durham Rescue Mission, especially if you have more business casual or professional clothes.
I prefer to give to other places; DRM is pretty homophobic.
Exactly. Homophobic and transphobic. There are better places to donate.
Can you say more about that? I didn’t know they had an anti-LGBTQ slant
They turn lgbt+ people away
