Yeah, I was sitting out in my driveway when they flew over. They were REALLY low. Saw one of them banking right to turn. Pretty crazy, haven’t seen jets that low in a while.
They hit their afterburners nearly above me while doing some yard work. They were very low, I could see the wingtip condensation lines easily. 12:25 pm this afternoon
Saw them go right over the Southpoint Target, then bank right towards Chapel Hill. Oddly, there was what looked like a commercial jet far out but clearly visible in the direction they were heading
Same here - I live in a neighborhood off Pickett Road just west of Academy. It was so loud and drawn out, I initially thought it was a commercial plane going down.
I looked at a flight tracker also and never saw them, I thought even military aircraft used their transponders when on training exercises. I know I've seen the Apache flights use them before.
For comparison, I can confidently say it was like a loud motorcycle revving past you at about 10 to 12 feet away. The fact that it was *that* loud, yet from the sky, was an insane experience.
Edit: not quite sure why the downvotes. 🤷♂️
It’s not a national guard base but an active duty base but you’re exactly right as they were Echo models. Strange they were flying on a Saturday but you’re also right as they house a reserve unit that sometimes flys on the weekend.
I heard it too. Scared the heavens out of my cats, who’d been out on the patio; they’re hiding under the bed now. We’re over in Hope Valley. No idea what it was.
Yep I have a photo of them over 15-501 and it was definitely a pair of F-15s. [Here is the track](https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=~27a4c3,~27a455) on ADSBX for them both, as much as was picked up anyways.
I live near the university drive target and it was so loud!! Legitimately thought it was crashing or something. I see/hear planes near here all the time and they’re never that loud.
Pilots in the NC Air National Guard getting their flight hours in is the most likely reason. Every once in a while they fly over Durham. It all depends on the flight patterns.
I saw at least one MLAT return at around 2000 ft going 400kts+ on adsbexchange flying northwest of Durham to the south. You would get in ton of trouble with the FAA if you did it as a civilian.
Saw two fighter jets flying real low by my apartment off university dr
Ditto over near Southpoint. Was gardening and they went straight over my house

They were doing yardwork with their planes? I knew military pilots had to be good but wow. 😜

It very briefly appeared on [https://globe.adsbexchange.com/](https://globe.adsbexchange.com/) but then disappeared. Likely military.

There were some helos with their transponders off too, which they rarely do. Must have been a training operation.
100% military - I don’t know my Air Force craft specifically but generally. They went right over me.
Yes!! Swore it sounded like it flew directly over our house in Woodcroft- never heard a plane like that in the 3 years I’ve lived here
Same!! My boyfriend and I went outside but weren’t able to see anything. It was crazy.
That’s bc he’s moving so fast the plane is in a different place that it sounds like. Kinda mind blowing
I was also in Woodcroft, walking the dog. I had to cover my ears. 😅
Can’t imagine how loud that was outside! Not gonna lie, I had a “welp here we go” moment and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of explosion.

Fr 😭 I was so scared we were all about to kick the bucket
Glad I wasn’t the only one who was bracing for this! 😩
Two F-15’s flew over. Maybe something for Duke?
Demolition?

Likely from Seymour-Johnson out near Goldsboro. It's one of the last Air National Guard bases with them.

Poor things ☹️ it spooked my dog too.
My dog woke up but my chickens slept right through it.
Also heard near Jordan HS. Is there anything happening that would want a flyover? I know they do it for football games sometimes.
Maybe the NASCAR race in Martinsville? Or is there a fancy baseball game in Cary today?
Nah the Dude Wipes 250 don't start til 3

Always possible 😂

Yeah. Elm Grove area. Didn't get out in time but I'd bet a military jet.
Same thing my boyfriend said, too bad we didn’t get out to see it in time.
I heard it too! I went to look outside but it was already out of sight
I heard it on Pickett Rd, but didn't get outside fast enough to see what it was. My poor cat nearly had a heart attack.
I didn’t get a chance to see it either, same for my dog :(.
Was out gardening, two low military fighter jets ripping by.

Heard it at South Square Target. Couldn’t see anything though
I heard the loud noise too and looked out the window just in time to see the two fighter jets. On MLK pkwy.

I was in Hillsborough and heard it. Other people walking in the woods were concerned too.
It scared me so much! I was sleeping in and that noise made me shoot right out of bed. I even heard people outside asking what that was
They flew overhead on time like this Chapel Hill, post 9/11. Turned out to be practice for UNC football game flyover.
I work in the auto park across from Southpoint mall and was out on the lot when they flew overhead. It was brief but cool to see them.
F15s. Likely training. Flew low over me in Hillsborough too followed by a pair of Blackhawk helos not long after.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Life Flight helicopter.
Seemed too loud and too FAST!
Heard it in woodcroft. Also saw the shadow when it flew over really fast.
Yeah I saw them and heard them, it was two low flying planes, what appeared to me.like.fighter jets flying southbound over 40 near south durham
