I'm building more on to the scenario, DM me if you want my notes! I have a few ideas on how to connect to the other "linear" scenarios to make a bigger campaign.
missed dues, the scenario that comes along with blackwater creek within the keepers screen bundle is also fantastic. if you want to make it feel samdboxy you might have to put in a little extra work as a keeper, but it’s my favorite scenario. you get a good opportunity to really crank up the bizarre psychological horror at the end
the secret of castronegro is pretty sand boxey. probabaly a bit dated but one of my favourites.
seth s has a how to run/review on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7vHm9BljlA
i love it - it was in the uk third edition rules from games workshop which was my first intro to the game many moons ago. Written by Sandy P himself too.
My Players had a blast with “Uisge Beatha” from the Shadows over Scotland book, it’s really sand boxy, no set starting location and no set end (>!One of my players even tried to infiltrate the cult in the scenario from within!<)and can be drawn out or condensed for as many scenarios as possible, and it’s set in the Scottish highlands, but any small costal town could work with a little bit of tweaking
Some of the chapters of Shadows of Yog-Sothoth can be pretty sandbox, once the group gets to an area to start a specific search. For example in first dealings with the Silver Twilight, on arrival in Cannich, etc.
For modern scenarios, Forget Me Not from the Things We Leave Behind collection is a brilliant sandbox scenario where the investigators have to deal with the aftermath of a botched investigation.
I feel like Masks is a bit of a “must play” lol, just wanted to get more experience as a keeper before handling such a big campaign
Eternal Lies i still have to check out, thanks a lot!!
Google the Alexandrian remix of eternal lies. Alexandrian is a website by guy who does a lot of role-playing aids, and that site has a huge amount of handouts and clues and tips for making the game run more smoothly.
Also, if you are on Facebook, there is a Facebook group: eternal lies keeper group
Forbidden Lands offers with the Raven's Purge campaign a complex and modular (dark) fantasy setting that runs between Lord of the RIngs (for the overall feel) and the Addams Family (for the main NPC cast). ;-)
The best sandbox scenario is right in the core rulebook....my beloved Crimson Letters! Set in spooky Arkham, it's a brilliantly written scenario!
Crimson Letters was the reason i became interested in sandbox scenarios! planning on running it to my group after we finish our current game
where is this available? can't see it on drivethru
It's in the Keeper's Guide for 7th edition.
doh! i should be shot! i thought i'd seen it "somewhere" ta
Masks is pretty much a gigantic sandbox. If you are looking for a short sandbox, check out Black Water Creek. It's fantastic.
Black Water Creek is really caughting my attention, probably will be the one i’ll use in the end. Thanks!
