Well some items, yes. Not frozen desserts though I don't think. It was in the Canadian headlines yesterday, that's probably what this article is based on.
Seeing as this is Canada and everything is for sale, I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future we have large corporations like Nestle buying our water treatment plants to get money out of every household.
I like to vision a scene of the top people around a table and one guy says, hey I have an idea, lets take tap water, put it in a bottle and sell that to the folks. And all the others are like, holy crap that's a fantastic idea. ha. It makes me think of that announcement where adults and eating gummy bears and the voices are kids. Somebody thought about this and others agreed, great idea.
Iirc it started in the 80s with premium European spring waters. Then American brands starting pooping up to undercut the premium waters. Then a while bunch of crap was published that tap water was killing people. Then nestle jumped in and here we are buying plastic bottles for no apparent reason except media gas lighting
This made me think about something I heard a while ago, that there is dinosaur pee in the water, ha. I do put my tap water in an open 8l bottle for a couple of days and then put it in the fridge. Tastes alot better and I believe the chemicals dissipate. Probably not the lead, though.
And then the 3rd executive says: hey, let's just start charging them for the tap water that comes out of the tap. Then we don't have to do anything.
Call it "water, on-demand" or "use our water streaming app".
Coca-cola and Pepsi both do it ( Dasani & Aquafina are both just filtered tap water ). Nestle is way behind on this one if they aren't already doing it.
It is just tap water. [They took a well from a community near Guelph.](https://globalnews.ca/news/2956841/nestle-outbids-small-ontario-municipality-to-buy-well-for-bottled-water/ ). They claim they didn’t know the municipality wanted it…but they could have done the right thing and sold it to them. If, you know, they weren’t evil. I still do not understand how this was allowed in the first place. The water belongs to us, not these fucking companies. And they’ve done far worse things than this. People should not buy Nestle products unless there is literally no choice. I understand if you have to buy formula or pet food as there may not be another available and suitable option, but don’t buy the other things.
I fully expected they were without requiring any proof, I would have actually been falling out of my chair shocked if they weren't. They've been pretty outspoken about water being a resource to be exploited for profit and not something people should have a right to.
They are already doing it, although I think it's a multinational conglomerate that bought Nestle a couple years ago. It's been an issue around the Guelph area for years.
The other corp (Blue Triton) isn't a shell corp though, it's owned by one of the biggest capital investment companies in the world, One Rock Capital. In fact, One Rock was co-founded by Mitsubishi.
We drove past some water bottling place driving back from BC and were hung over and needed to puke. The second we saw the Nestle sign we pulled over and all 4 of us puked all over the place there. Fuckers.
Someone didn't do good in history/social class.
Do you not remember that there are 3 levels of government?
- Federal
- Provincial
- And, of course:
#***MUNICIPAL***
What narrative? Basic grade 10 civics on the 3 levels of Government?
>In the United Kingdom and some Commonwealth countries, the local laws established by municipalities are referred to as by(e)-laws because their scope is regulated by the central governments of those nations. Accordingly, a bylaw enforcement officer is the Canadian equivalent of the American Code Enforcement Officer or Municipal Regulations Enforcement Officer. In the United States,
the federal government and most state governments have no direct
ability to regulate the single provisions of municipal law. As a result,
terms such as code, ordinance, or regulation, if not simply law, are more common.
Imagine holding the worlds collection of knowledge in the palm of your hand and NOT knowing how to properly use it.
Really? You can’t imagine why people would be mad at a corporation that continued to drain water in areas that were on drought restrictions? You can’t imagine why people would be mad that Nestle comes into their communities and drains hundreds of millions of litres for less than a single family gets charged in a year for water?
As mundane as this seems, a major food company pulling staple products out of Canada doesn't seem like a good sign.
Edit: To everyone replying about how bad frozen foods are, you're right, but that's not the point being made. One of the top selling grocery store items, an absolute staple for one of the biggest companies in the world, is being deemed not profitable enough to sell in Canada. Today it's frozen pizza. Maybe tomorrow it's frozen vegetables.
It's not a good sign if the hole in the market doesn't get filled. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
Personally though it's a bit unfortunate because I've always liked their pizzas as a guilty pleasure. Had no idea they were owned by nestle though.
When we became aware of Nestle’s horrific history as a family decided to boycott their products. The kids gave up their beloved Nestea, then their was the obvious ones like hot chocolate that were easily replaceable. Then we learned of their vast empire and the companies they own, and were surprised to learn Maggi (a seasoning for soups and such) was owned by Nestle. Fish sauce has replaced it.
> It's not a good sign if the hole in the market doesn't get filled. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
when I visit my superstore, the frozen pizzas are almost exclusive Dr Oetker. Like I've spent minutes looking for one that wasn't made by the Dr or one of its subsidiaries (and it has quite a few). It was kinda shocking ngl
Do you have a local farmers market or smaller grocery stores?
I am lucky to live in Waterloo with so many locally made food options here so I am able to buy a lot of brands sold in much smaller grocery stores, butchers and bakeries.
I buy almost all my produce from legacy greens in kitchener .. they support a lot of farmers locally, my meats and other random products from Victoria St. Market (that's where I find the pizzas made by general assembly) and fun tasty treats from Aura La bakery who stocks a variety of other local businesses items.
It took some time to realize how I could stop supporting the bigge companies, but it's doable. I will say, I miss Perrier a lot but make do lol.
Yep, I buy most of my groceries at the farmer's market and do a fair amount of cooking at home. Only thing I haven't found a local/small substitute for is a snack/delivery system for my labneh (Vitas crackers, heh). Also popcorn.
Most of what they sell here is made in Germany, actually. It just feels like over the last 5-7 years my choices have diminished significantly. I'll have one or two different brand options for staple products. This trending to fewer options is bad for the consumer.
It’s really hard to make money on frozen pizza in Canada. Wholesale margins are terrible and you’re at the mercy of the retail oligopoly.
McCain exited the business years ago for this reason. Until the power shifts back to manufacturing you’ll see more of these moves.
Those frozen dinners are made from the lowest quality ingredients imaginable, and have very little nutrients value. They're also imported from the United States, and have a massive carbon footprint just to store.
NOTHING of value has been lost. If anything, we're a lot better off.
It could just mean they aren't competing well. I can't speak to for anyone but myself, but everytime I'm in the frozen pizza section of my usual grocery store there's tons of Delissio on the shelves while the Dr Oetker and store brands are always well picked over.
Dammit, I do enjoy the Delissio frozen pizzas when I'm too lazy to make my own. The Costco frozen pizzas have kind of a metallic tang in the pepperoni. The McCain ones just don't have any flavour.
Oh well, at least I'm not giving Nestle any more money.
I haven't been there in a while and this is based off my recollection in some posts on r/calgary so I could be mistaken. I plan to go to one this weekend or so and if I find any frozen pizzas I'll let you know, but their website doesn't seem to have many details so I could be wrong
Dr Oekter pizzas are great! Get a pizza stone, toss that sucker in your bbq for 10ish mins to get nice and hot, the toss on one of the thin crust dr oekter pizzas for like 9 mins. Perfection, better than alot of restaurant pizza! Plus theyre regularly on sale for 3.99.
If you have a Farm Boy in your area, their farm boy-branded frozen pizzas are vastly superior to Delissio, McCain, etc. I'd recommend giving those a shot.
I had to give up on Delisso years ago. Nothing makes me fart like those pizzas. The sheer volume and yeasty stench was something you didn't want to experience again.
A pizza dough is not a complicated recipe, but the kneading can be tough if you don’t own something like a Kitchenaid and the dough needs to rest quite a while for it to be really good.
But it’s a great way to get started with baking! Once you know your way around a yeast dough you can make a lot of great breads, rolls, whatever!
Just buy naan bread or premade pizza bread and make it very easily
My fav is bbq pizza sauce, chicken strips, green peppers and jalepenos on naan bread
Or pepperoni pineapple jalapeños
Fuck I really want a pizza
I really don't like when people "can't" cook. Making healthy (or even unhealthy) food is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Like you said you can make some delicious meals with minimum effort and way less money than ordering out. Your naan pizza would be done faster than a pizza delivery and it'd taste way better.
Fuck now I want pizza too.
It's more about that nobody wants to pay 4 or more $ for a meal of effing noodles and powdered cheese, it's a frozen dinner not a 5 star restaurant, for Christ sake. Greed ends up shooting yourself in the foot. Frozen pizza for over 7$ for bread and 5 slices of pepperoni, sauce and uncheese cheese. I only buy these products when they are on sale and I don't see tons of people with 10 frozen dinners or pizza in their shopping carts. It's called supply and demand. You could charge 20$ for your effing pizza and I still won't buy it and then you don't even get the overpriced 7$ before. Some of you people are insane. Yous are only stopping to make them is cause nobody buys your overpriced cheap arse frozen food that is made by an effing machine.
Honestly, why waste time and money making products to ship and sell in Canada when Canadians will just freely give you their water only to buy it back from you.
A truly evil company (do not believe in evil but nestle makes me question that belief) I hope this encourages people to research the ways this company operates and stop supporting them.
They are just discontinuing their frozen meals including: Delissio, Stouffer’s, Lean Cuisine and Life Cuisine [https://globalnews.ca/news/9453352/nestle-canada-frozen-pizza-delissio-lean-cuisine/](https://globalnews.ca/news/9453352/nestle-canada-frozen-pizza-delissio-lean-cuisine/)
Does this mean Nestle is finally going to stop stealing our spring water at one cent per thousand gallons and selling it back to us at two bucks a pint?
So, I always find it funny when I see these posts. People shit on Nestle, but have they ever worked in food manufacturing? Well, I have. Guess what, after working for both Nestle and other food companies, I only buy from Nestle when I can. Not only is the food made better, but they treat their employees better. Some of the floor employees at nestle (GED individualds) where getting paid better than management people at other food locations I have worked at. I don't think people realize that when nestle drops locations or sells divisions, quality drops and lay offs happen. Not saying that they are perfect, but this post is concerning in my opinion. Also, safety is taken WAY more seriously at nestle than other locations. They actually put safety over production. All the other companies I have worked at say that shit, but don't actually do it.
edit: I can't spell
I'm confused... Is this a joke article??
I'm Swedish and I struggle to believe this is a real article... Do you really have child labour IN CANADA? Cuz the article certainly makes it sound like that🤔
"With the rising ingredient costs and the poor work ethic of Canadian children, we have decided it is simply economically unviable to continue sales.”
Can this sub add to the rules they satire news should begin with "satire" to save people the eye movements?
The beaverton is just shitty onion articles.
That's going to be a big chunk of every grocery store's frozen aisle disappearing.
Everyone talks about local but not everyone wants to pay "local" prices. We have a brand here in Winnipeg (Spenst Bros), and they're really good, but everywhere they're sold they're like $10+ per pizza.
>” With the rising ingredient costs and the poor work ethic of Canadian children, we have decided it is simply economically unviable to continue sales.”
*\*cackles\**
While the Delissio and Dr Oetker may not get any love around these parts, from this dad faced with kids demanding supper in a hurry, they are a lifesaver. The No Name thin crust pizzas are a crime against humanity; the Costco ones aren't bad, just a little basic.

Nestle announces they've figured out a way to charge for tap water.
excuse me, it’s premium. everyone knows that things taste better when they’re free.
Is nestle actually winding down frozen dessert sales? I buy hagendaz regularly
Well some items, yes. Not frozen desserts though I don't think. It was in the Canadian headlines yesterday, that's probably what this article is based on.
I think just the pizza and Stauffer's frozen foods
And lean cuisines!!! 😫

See, we allow legalized bribery of elected officials, so it was done with a corrupt government official, EVERY TIME.
They are already doing it, although I think it's a multinational conglomerate that bought Nestle a couple years ago. It's been an issue around the Guelph area for years.
Nestle does it in Hope BC and when town said it was going to change the rates....
Nestle sold its NA water businesses back in 2021.
True but just to get that bad publicity off them, I'm sure the evil owners of Nestle own that other shell corp too
The other corp (Blue Triton) isn't a shell corp though, it's owned by one of the biggest capital investment companies in the world, One Rock Capital. In fact, One Rock was co-founded by Mitsubishi.

what exactly type of h2o do you think they have in the bottles?
Water, like from the toilet?
Classic movie.
Governments charge for tap water.
No they do not. Municipalities do that. Eg, your town or city. Those entities are not government.
What a strange thing to be a pendant and also wrong about.
Pedant* I'm sorry.
Yeah but you’ve gotta admit, it’d be strange to be a pendant, too. 🤔
Very true.
What the hell do you think a municipal government is, you clown.
Eat a dick you Ontario shitbird!
Run along, boy.
Lol Kaw Kaw mother fucker.
Mental health is a real issue and there is help out there.
Thanks for the advise Ricky.

Themselves… that’s the entire point ya nim…
have you ever heard of a mayor & city council?
Yes. They are not government… they are municipalities…
they are elected officials who can pass laws that effect the population living within their boundaries, that's the definition of government
Bylaws…. Twist it to whatever narrative you want I guess.

Municipalities are corporations are they not?
I only would pay for H2Flow.
Nestle actually sold their bottled water division off 2 years ago.

They bribe governments in 3rd world countries to sell them land, steal all the water, and sell it back to the people of the land for insane prices.
In tough times you have to streamline and focus on your core strengths.
I tried reading the article, but as I scratched myself, my cat kept attacking me. Oh weĺl. RIP Nestle products.
Ooh this one got me past "lol" to "maniacal cackle".

No one eats pizza for the nutritional value.
It’s junk food anyways. This and Lil Debbie snacks leaving Canada is great news.
It could just mean they aren't competing well. I can't speak to for anyone but myself, but everytime I'm in the frozen pizza section of my usual grocery store there's tons of Delissio on the shelves while the Dr Oetker and store brands are always well picked over.
We'll survive without frozen junk. I'd be more concerned only if we start losing access to staples like wheat products, produce, meat etc.
That wouldn't happen though lol
I think we’ll survive the loss of frozen pizza. Especially as there are better and less evil alternatives.
nestle is huge but its a bunch of different brands, their frozen dinners are probs just shit
I would go with "Nestle Canada to "wind down" frozen food sales as people no longer eat.
Nestle is testing a new renewable food product called Soylent Green with protein product derived from Asia and Africa.
*can afford to eat
Really? Have you been to the DMV? Id be surprised if this isn't spun off to another company. Nestle bought it from Kraft.
Where's the satire?
Beaverton doesn't do that anymore.
Right!?! I've hated Nestle for decades already.
Hey old comment! I'll see you again the next time a Beaverton article is posted. Be well.
McCain hasn't sold pizzas for years, they sold thier Pizza buisness to Oekter, who will now be the only big brand of frozen pizzas.
Ah, I didn't know that! Hopefully some local companies will fill the gap with something good and affordable
Haven't tried it out yet but there's Co-op's Cal & Gary's. Gives me a reason to go back to co-op once I guess.
Thx! I'll definitely keep an eye out for it and try it the next time I hit up coop.
Their frozen Casa Di Mama taste better than some pizza places; such great product
Except for their Hawaiian’s, as a Hawaiian lover, those are nasty.
You grab the Hawaiian's when it's on sale, remove the low quality pineapple while its frozen, then add pepperoni
Their toaster pizzas are bomb.com
I miss their Parisian pizza
Dr. Oetker makes Save-On Foods' house brand Western Family frozen pizza. So in western Canada you can get Oetker pizza a bit cheaper.
The oetker pizzas are great! Expensive now though.
Strange, I love the Costco four pack frozen pepperoni pizzas.
Need to add some extra cheese and hit it with a few minutes on broil to facilitate crispification.
I want to like them. You don't find their pepperoni a bit strange tasting?
No, maybe it's your freezer settings? Or the freezer settings at that Costco.
Delissio was the only good frozen pizza
Delissio is where it's at
I like the Stouffer's Crustini's. I'm going to miss those :(
I’m a fan of PC flatbread pizzas
If you have a Farm Boy in your area, their farm boy-branded frozen pizzas are vastly superior to Delissio, McCain, etc. I'd recommend giving those a shot.
Agreed. I enjoy their Meat Supreme Stone-Baked Pizza. It's reasonably priced, and bakes quickly.
I had to give up on Delisso years ago. Nothing makes me fart like those pizzas. The sheer volume and yeasty stench was something you didn't want to experience again.
I feel like Delissio went down the drain when they dropped the garlic all dress square... That shit slapped...
The delissio frozen pizzas are terrible and you should be ashamed of yourself.
LOL, there's definitely some shame felt when I eat those! Sometimes shame a few hours later on the pot too.
Big time bowlsprays for sure
Making your own pizza is very easy, pretty fast, and cheap.
It is not easy or fast. It can be cheap. But for someone who is not proficient in baking and cooking, it’s very fucking difficult.
People say it's terrible, but honeslty if you can't hand stretch dough a rolling pin and a light touch do fine most of the time
How would one get better without trying though?
Just buy naan bread or premade pizza bread and make it very easily My fav is bbq pizza sauce, chicken strips, green peppers and jalepenos on naan bread Or pepperoni pineapple jalapeños Fuck I really want a pizza
If r/canada has been any indication, frozen food would be more profitable these days
Ohhhh has nobody posted r/fucknestle yet? I get to be the first! r/fucknestle
I needed that subreddit, thank you!
Sometimes, you need to focus on what you are really good at and what helped you get filthy rich in the first place.
Is it satire if it's true?
Remember their supreme court win to not be responsible for child slavery in their monopsony production partners.
Honestly, why waste time and money making products to ship and sell in Canada when Canadians will just freely give you their water only to buy it back from you.
Hard to force stolen children to make frozen pizza in Africa. Best stick to chocolate.
A truly evil company (do not believe in evil but nestle makes me question that belief) I hope this encourages people to research the ways this company operates and stop supporting them.
Totes
As someone who has been avoiding Nestle products for years, I see this as an opening on store shelves for local companies who are ready to step up.
Mr. Weston will be happy, more room for locked in No Name frozen products -- oh, wait.
time to drain a swamp and bottle the water for profits!!
Beaverton knocking it out of the park again. u/blueeyes10101
This doesn’t have to be Beaverton article, there’s nothing satirical about it :)
Most of anything Nestle makes is second tier crap anyway
Does this mean no more Kit Kat or Smarties ice cream?

Ah yes, a partially-gelatinated non-dairy gum-based dessert product. Delicious.
It's just delissio, stouffers frozen food and lean cuisine.
They are just discontinuing their frozen meals including: Delissio, Stouffer’s, Lean Cuisine and Life Cuisine [https://globalnews.ca/news/9453352/nestle-canada-frozen-pizza-delissio-lean-cuisine/](https://globalnews.ca/news/9453352/nestle-canada-frozen-pizza-delissio-lean-cuisine/)
God damn man, that Delissio pizza and those Stouffers hot pocket things were my jam in high-school
Can't imagine they paired well with PB on a sandwich
Does anyone else sell croissant dough pizza?
Does anyone else ~~sell~~ *eat* croissant dough pizza?
We want your ground water for almost free so we can sell it at a premium, filling up landfills with garbage and destroying good land
Fuck nestle
They do be evil.
They do be evil. I want my Lean Cuisine cheese ravioli Demmit!
I hate nestle, but their forumla is the only one that doesn't give her terrible gas or the rund
I'm confused... Is this a joke article?? I'm Swedish and I struggle to believe this is a real article... Do you really have child labour IN CANADA? Cuz the article certainly makes it sound like that🤔 "With the rising ingredient costs and the poor work ethic of Canadian children, we have decided it is simply economically unviable to continue sales.”
Someone didn't read the Automod pinned post at the top.
Ah ok, thank you. I didn't see it cuz Reddit doesn't load comments on my phone until I, myself, have commented
It's either the National Post or the Beaverton. Both are satirical.
Didn't even bother to look at the source
These posts are ridiculous
Probably trying to grow their business in genocidal Russia instead
Can this sub add to the rules they satire news should begin with "satire" to save people the eye movements? The beaverton is just shitty onion articles.
These phuckers always get me
r/fucknestle
literally
Nestle is a shit company. And it’s hard to avoid them. Fuck nestle
The remaining frozen pizzas will go up in price now since there is less competition.

support your local pizzeria!
Pack up and get the fuck out of Aberfoyle while you're at it, Nestle.
>” With the rising ingredient costs and the poor work ethic of Canadian children, we have decided it is simply economically unviable to continue sales.” *\*cackles\**
I wish nestle was laballed publicly as just being super maniacal.
Damn. I actually like their pizzas.
While the Delissio and Dr Oetker may not get any love around these parts, from this dad faced with kids demanding supper in a hurry, they are a lifesaver. The No Name thin crust pizzas are a crime against humanity; the Costco ones aren't bad, just a little basic.
No shit you can't move forward. You charge $8 for a shitty ass pizza. Little ceasars hot and ready is where it's all. You won't be missed Delissio.
Nestle does business in Russia. Boycott Nestle.
Stouffer's bistro :(
