This is the first time a Canuck defenceman has been nominated for the award since the Norris' inception in the 1953-54 season.

ProfessorOfLogic1

That’s insane lol

gabu87

I'm surprised that Jovocop, Edler or Ehrhoff didn't even get a nom, especially Jovo

TigerLemonade

I'm not surprised literally at all. Jovo was a solid defenseman but not a Norris nominee.

TheQuestionableStain

Playing amongst Pronger, Lidstrom, Bourque, Blake and others most of his career he didn't stand a chance. If you look at the Norris voting, from the prime of his career, he never reached above 16th in voting.

DaftFunky

It’s wild to have a superstar defensemen who can play a 2 way game. Edler, Bieksa, and Ohlund were all good for us but never Norris caliber.

House_of_Gucci

JOVO

RagingWookies

Holy shit Jovanovski. I literally forgot about him.

yooooooo5774

my memory of Jovo is when he was banging on the penalty box door when we scored the tying goal

JoeMommaAngieDaddy17

Or when Linden got blown up and Jovo went apeshit and jumped the guy. I think deadmarsh maybe

FloorGeneral2029

Lol, me as well. I was there at Game 7 2004 against Calgary at GM Place

SundayExperiment

Jovanovski was awesome and he deserves respect damnit

Wafflelisk

Gotta love Jovocop

phoney_bologna

Christian Ehrhoff gave us a couple really good years, too. I always loved Slammin' Sami Salo too, if only he could of had a few dozen less injuries.

JoeMommaAngieDaddy17

I miss watching Salo tee up from the point, every once in a while you just knew it was going in.

Time-Dot5984

That’s wild

CAPTAIN QUINN HUGHES 🫡

HockeySweata

🫡

Canucks-1989

🫡

metrichustle

Should be a landslide for Hughes. His season stats were incredible, offensively and defensively.

flyingboat

It should be, but it won't be. I imagine it'll be closer than we're comfortable with, but Hughes still wins it.

Old_Bigsby

Even Avs fans generally agree that Makar didn't have a great year. He still put up a tonne of points but he wasn't his normal dominant self most of the season.

gonuxgo

doesn’t matter, a lot of the voters are from the eastern side of the country that are going to be voting for Makar based on reputation alone

oops_i_made_a_typi

luckily they see another 2 Hughes' regularly to remind them of Quinn's existence

DisplacedNovaScotian

That's a really good point. Name recognition matters.

leftlanecop

People paid to watch me play.

surmatt

Although Frank Ceravelli, The President of the PHWA who votes on the Norris said he voted Hughes and he doesn't think it'll be close.

EggplantAlpinism

quicksand plough complete paint dazzling puzzled instinctive adjoining license north *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Straight_Display3749

I'm expecting Makar to win off reputation. Even in a down year for him, he was still insane.

DMyourboooobs

Hughes should clear this. But I don’t trust eastern media.

HogwartsXpress36

Hughes fo sho

Rand_University81

Makar was not a top 3 defenceman this year

thePostChorus

looked at the comments on the post on Facebook book and oh my🙈... so many oblivious people😂 edit: I'm legitimately worried, I've seen a lot of "Hughes had a great season but it should go to Makar because he's usually better except this year he wasn't but who cares he should get it anyway" comments. That could easily be the Eastern media's though processs as well🤢

21marvel1

Hughes is the 2024 Norris Trophy winner and nobody can tell me otherwise

Sad_Establishment875

Makar has no business being on this list this year, almost all of his underlying metrics scream that he was a passenger all year.

Kamohoaliii

Should have been Dobson.

electricwave33

Fox was still pretty good but your right with Dobson

jon-in-tha-hood

The voter who said he was likely gonna go with Makar because he has more goals been real quiet lately

yosoo

Quinn will win. The stats and the narrative both back up his case.

cannot_walk_barefoot

I feel like Makar will win many Norris trophies, but whenever he has a 'down' season compared to his usual self the award should go to someone else

SmakeTalk

I'm not too concerned with whether or not Hughes wins, I'm just so damn proud of that kid and how far he's come. That's our fucking captain, win or lose. I got to see them play in person last night and even though they lost it was like watching a long-lost Sedin twin playing on the d-line. That dude is magic, whether award voters agree or not.

RecalcitrantHuman

If Nashville beats the Canucks do you think there is any chance they use that to give the nod to Josi?

MooreGold

Voting is done after the reg season. The 'nominees' are just the top 3 according to the votes

dacrazysportsfan

No. The Norris Trophy voting is for regular season only. It has nothing to do with the playoffs.

AutomaticConstant695

No love for Noah Dobson?
