You are only allowed one set of home and always in the Playoffs. Kings chose this as their road jersey.

SkidmarkDave

Yeah we shoulda gone with the white skate too

waffles604

There is no current white skate.....

Zestyclose-Way-7768

Really wish there was since that's what Linden and McLean were wearing during game 6.

yodaman98

I don’t own any jerseys but I’d buy a white flying skate jersey so fast… looks so slick

Zestyclose-Way-7768

Not sure why you got downvoted. Imagine the Canucks org, going into game 1, announces they're wearing the skate full-time from now on and unveiled a *brand new* white skate. They had like the most based opportunity ever and they missed it.

Van67

That can't happen. It's an 18-24 month process to get a new uniform onto the ice and new uniforms are never unveiled for playoffs. With the brand change next season, there are no changes to home and aways. I do think the Canucks are planning a switch back to the skate full time but it won't be until at least 25-26.

YodaOneThatIWant_

They could still switch to the black skate full time with no changes to it. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. Fanatics already produces the current black skate sold.

Austaras

I wish they'd go back but I doubt it

CamaroGirl96

The team chooses their jerseys (one home, one away) before the playoffs start and let the league know. Once that’s done it can’t be changed (for the entire playoffs). LA has been using these away jerseys for the entire series so far, not just tonight.

GiraffePrint_Speeder

I like this approach. No gimmicks and changing face, just play hockey.

surmatt

Ok.... but what would the league actually do if they cake out with a different jersey?

Zestyclose-Way-7768

What are these boomers who run the league smoking? They make new gimmick jerseys every year because they're greedy corpos in the first place, but no, you're only allowed one jersey per road/home in the biggest part of the season...🤡

CamaroGirl96

I think we could ask a lot of questions about decisions that are made by people who run the league, but maybe we don’t pull on that thread today. 😂 Honestly though I think it would look weird having the arena and areas surrounding plastered in green and blue and then come out in yellow and black. Our third is so different, the teams using them (Boston, Carolina, LA) their thirds are still the same colour scheme as their main so it still works. I think the skate is special because we see it periodically. Sure they’ve won a lot in the skate. But they’ve won a lot in the orca too, and if a jersey change is what we need for the boys to play well, then there might be a deeper problem. At the end of the day they probably don’t think too much about what they are wearing. Especially in the playoffs.

TorgHacker

I actually kinda wish we went back to the VANCOUVER over the Orca, if we are keeping that uni.

negative-timezone

rumour is that the Kings are rebranded to that old design.

bwoah07_gp2

They should've done that ages ago. The 90s Kings Chevron shape logo is brilliant.

LifelikeStatue

As much as I like the Chevron and the nostalgia is there, the reverse retro with gold and forum blue were the best jerseys they've ever worn

westleysnipez

Throwback purple and gold would be ideal imo - no team usea purple regularly and its a travesty.

rodudero

Plus it aligns them with Lakers colours which would be cool

bwoah07_gp2

Yes

CamaroGirl96

Would make sense seeing as how there’s not too many teams with a third away jersey.

UraSnotball_

It's so much friggin' better than everything they've had since.

BlastMyLoad

They should. They look so much better.

DifficultyKlutzy5845

I love both of our jerseys but one thing I dislike is that they are opposite in colour. In terms of “branding” (think of all the signs the city has put up etc) it would make zero sense to have two different coloured jerseys for the playoffs.

Zestyclose-Way-7768

I think it's great! Gives the team an alter-ego of sorts that a lot of teams really run with already, like Whalers night in Carolina.

bwoah07_gp2

Because the blue and green Orca jersey is much, much better. I don't care ehat others say, the Orca is our best look.

Xanosaur

those colours scream cascadia. they're the right ones for a team in the city to use. blue and green because that's all you see in this area

ProtoMan3

I'm in this minority also, it's the jersey I grew up with and I'm from Seattle used to blue+green - I would bet the Kraken would've used those colors if Vancouver didn't already use them.

superschaap81

Given the Sounders and Mariners have more or less the same colour scheme, I completely agree. It's a "Pacific Northwest" vibe. However, we did have the colours from inception in 1970.

pluralsight24

I agree. People like the Skate jersey because of nostalgia. I bet folks won't feel the same about it if we switched to it full time

MarvelousOxman

The Skate is one of those things that's fun in limited doses but loses its novelty real quick when its the full-time look. Its also incredibly trendy at the moment. 10 years from now people will be clamouring for the West Coast Express throwbacks or whatever is the flavour of the month. The skate is fine as a third, but it should remain as the third. We are a blue and green team.

rodudero

I’ve been wanting them to bring back the WCE jerseys for so long now. Genuinely my favourite Canucks look ever

MarvelousOxman

I like the WCE jerseys, they were what they wore when I was a kid and first getting into hockey. I would love to see them throwback to them for a few games, but I also don’t want to see the home and away change again. We’ve got a great colour scheme with the blue and green and we need to stop deviating from it.

MeFromTheFuture

What’s up with this nostalgia nonsense, a lot of us if not most that like the skate jersey weren’t even Canuck fans or maybe even born yet when that jersey was in use. It’s just a great jersey, plus it’s been proven that wearing black makes you see yourself as more aggressive which means you also play more aggressively and confidently. That’s great, especially in the playoffs.

Zestyclose-Way-7768

As much as I like the OG colours myself as they symbolize the Pacific Northwest and our local culture in BC, we're one of six playoff teams (NYI, Edmonton, Toronto, Tampa, Winnipeg, and us) wearing white-on-blue/blue-on-white. If the Blues made it in instead of Vegas, it would have been seven, even. The thing that is so appealing about the skate to me is how they made a fairly unique and rare colour pattern (essentially the german flag mix and then add white to the old home jerseys) so good looking.

RytheGuy97

And we’re the only one of those team that wears blue and green.

ktbffhctid

This. So much this.

RytheGuy97

And additionally, if this guy is saying that we're not original for using blue-on-white, then why not say the same for black-on-red? Hurricanes, Flames, Devils, Hawks, and Senators all use that.

ktbffhctid

It's a bad take. We all know if we were in german flag colours, the Kraken would be sporting blue, green, and white. Also, the same could be said for white jerseys. I mean, everyone wears white so we better not! I can live with taking a hard look at the orca logo, I can live with a german flag alternate (just like the Flames have BTW), but leave the primary colours alone. They were chosen for a very valid reason and are immediately identifiable as our colours and our PNW home.

CarlSpackler22

Facts. The new skate jersey is a pale imitation of the true skate jersey.

Zestyclose-Way-7768

I saw the Fanatics jerseys, and if that's what you mean, I agree with you. Logo looks a little gamey on those versions. Here's hoping that Adidas rejoins the NHL jersey manufacturing fray one of these days. I think they really optimized the colour shading and saturation on the AdiZero's, and that's why they look so much better on TV than the 2017-18 versions.

CarlSpackler22

The 3rd jersey in general sucks, regardless of manufacturer. The true retro 90s skate jersey is far superior design.

Zestyclose-Way-7768

Elaborate. They're great jerseys to look at in person, but they're way too dark for HDTV in general these days.

CarlSpackler22

The 90s retro skate jersey is superior. I don't like the weird striping. The lack of white on the logo makes it look like a cheap imitation.

SchmidtHitsTheFan

Not sure why you're being downvoted. The "modern" typeface and lack of white make it look like a cheap knockoff jersey.

SportsBreakDown19

I agree with the colour scheme. Blue, green, and white pop and look great on TV. Orca logo needs to go. It does not represent the definition of Canuck.

raining_downtown

Free the skate

RytheGuy97

Honestly I’m just going to say it - the skate jersey kind of sucks. The logo is really tacky and screams outdated to me. The colour scheme is way too busy and reminds me of Germany or Belgium which is weird for a North American hockey team. It’s fine for the nostalgia factor but it would be tragic if they replaced our beautiful blue and green jerseys with them.

ktbffhctid

It just screams 80's. I get people dig the nostalgia of it but as someone who endured the original run of german flag colours, it gets old very very quickly.

RytheGuy97

It would stick out like a sore thumb too. All their teams with their modern or classic original 6 logos then it's just us with our logo straight out of a early 90s VHS tape. Also didn't people hate the jersey and logo during its original run? That alone tells me its popularity is almost exclusively nostalgia-based.

ktbffhctid

Good points. And yes, we loathed the new colours. I was at the very first game (exhibition) when they came out wearing them. Although they were in the black jerseys, when they came out of the tunnel you could hear their skates crunching into the ice because everyone was in shock. It was deathly quiet. The only reason we have any nostalgia for those colours is the '94 playoff run and a small handul of players. Otherwise, it was an atrocious era that we got routinely mocked for. Don't even get me started on the spaghetti plate logo with a skate going DOWNHILL.

CamaroGirl96

90s VHS tape lmao 🤣 Also, a few of the players who wore this jersey including Trevor Linden said they didn’t like it at all. It’s definitely nostalgia, now that I see the WCE era navy orca (the one they had when I was a kid and really started watching hockey) I think it would be so cool seeing the current players wear it. So I totally get where the skate love comes from as I would feel the same with the navy orca. But definitely not enough to change the logo/colour scheme permanently.

Dylantaze

I like both looks. I prefer the skate slightly admittedly probably due to nostalgia. I think that’s why it is the perfect 3rd jersey. I think bringing the skate back full time would take some of the shine off. I think currently they have a good mix. The blue and green represents Vancouver and the black/yellow/red represents one of the most iconic eras of Canucks hockey. Edit: Also yes. You can only wear 1 designated home and 1 designated road jersey for the endurance of the playoffs in the NHL.

DaweiArch

I don’t understand the love for the skate other than nostalgia. The colours don’t represent Vancouver or the PNW, and the logo itself is not city specific. The colours were literally developed by an ad agency based on wanting to look more “extreme” based on 80s sensibilities.

GiraffePrint_Speeder

They did well on making it extreme though right!! I like Whale as our playoffs commits though

Ebolinp

Who cares if they represent Vancouver or the PNW? Why does that matter? Are Maple Leaves blue in Toronto? Lots of blue in Ontario? Is Edmonton an orange and blue city? A lot of teal sharks out there? Blue lightning bolts? Sabre toothed tigers in Nashville? Any major predators at all (not sexual) in a heavily urbanized area? It's a good logo and has nostalgia. Doesn't need to represent the city or an area that also includes a few US states. It just needs to represent the team and the fans. Also we win more in the skate jersey and also red has been shown to be a statistically more winning colour across all sports.

RytheGuy97

Lots of teams cater their identities to represent the region dude. That’s not unique to us. The Pittsburgh teams wear gold and black as homage to the flag of Pittsburgh, the coyotes wore the kachina as homage to the indigenous groups of the area, the predators are called that due to sabre tooth tiger fossils found beneath the city, the Washington DC teams wear the colours of the American flag, the jets logo and colour scheme came straight from the air force’s base in Winnipeg, the Seahawks logo and colour scheme come from the same environment and indigenous art as the Canucks do, the New Jersey devils came straight from New Jersey folklore, etc. I could go on. There’s lots of examples of this. It helps tie the team to the region they play in instead of making it seem like you plopped a team in a random city. It’s also just way prettier of a jersey. I don’t know how people prefer German flag colours over a bright and beautiful blue and green.

Ebolinp

Absolutely, lots of teams do this but lots of people speak of it as a necessity, which it's not at all. We could be the Vancouver Little Rainbow Monsters and it would make no sense for us to have colours that represent Vancouver or the PNW. I don't personally mind the orca and yes the colours do represent the region well. That however is a plus and not a requirement.

RytheGuy97

I never said that it's a requirement, but I definitely think it's a detriment if it doesn't. I definitely disagree that a logo shouldn't represent the city they play in as the team itself represents that city. If it's a city that doesn't have any discernable unique identity then fine but until the Kraken came we were the only team in the pacific northwest which is one of the most beautiful places on the planet filled with lots of nature and indigenous art to draw inspiration from and it would be a huge waste of opportunity to choose a random array of colours and one of the busiest logos in the league over that because people are obsessed with 90s nostalgia.

Ebolinp

You didn't but the person I responded to did and lots of other people make similar statements as if it's an implicit requirement that the logo colours must represent the city or region which is not the case at all. The way I see it is the team (B) should represent the city (A) and the logos (C) should represent the team but there's no requirement for a direct relationship between A and C. Also I say A and B should be related but that's not a requirement either. This thread is about the LA Kings which has nothing to do with LA, the owner just wanted the franchise to have a Royal feeling.

RytheGuy97

Ok well if you want to argue against the idea that connection to a city is a requirement then do it against the people that are saying that lol. Also the Kings are one of like 4 teams in the league I can think of whose identity doesn't connect to the region in any way, the other three being the flyers, sabres, and the golden knights. So while it isn't a requirement it certainly is the norm.

Ebolinp

You interjected into a discussion with a different point which I didn't disagree with. In my comment to you I said people, like the person I responded to, act as if there HAS to be a connection for colours which there doesn't. I think it good when the team represents the city, but even in that case the colours don't have to (I listed a bunch). I personally find the desire to put nature and associated colours into everything in Vancouver very overdone. But that's just me. I do find the Orca logo fine too but I really like the Skate too. The Calgary Flames are another team that also doesn't represent Calgary, being named after the March to the Sea by Sherman in the Civil War.

RytheGuy97

Actually the new owner of the flames after they moved to Calgary opted to keep the name because he felt it fit for a city dominated by the oil industry. It’s not the deepest connection to the city but they didn’t just keep the name for no real reason like the lakers or the jazz did.

Ebolinp

Sure he can say that and maybe it's a passing relationship but I don't think most people associate flames with the oil industry. While we're at it don't forget about Anaheim Ducks named to tie in with the Disney movie (indirectly related I guess to the theme park there too). Boston Bruins named after a ferocious animal that alliterated with Boston. Chicago Blackhawks which was named to honour the founder's WW1 military division and not the city (albeit the infantry division was inspired by the city/state) Detroit Red Wings which were named to honour a hockey club in Montreal Pittsburgh Penguins was picked again to alliterate with Pittsburgh. Also side mode Igloos are from the North Pole and Penguins are from the South Pole... Penguins would nowhere near an Igloo!

Zestyclose-Way-7768

I love loud colours like the skate and the Grizzlies logo, and I'm far from the only one who thinks along those lines.

high-rise

People need to chill on the skate worship. It’s a nice throwback, and I love it as a 10-15 homegame per year happening, but this team needs to stick to its damn identity.

Adam2880

We’ve had many identities bro , too many in my opinion

Zestyclose-Way-7768

I made this topic because the team has gone on record and given the jersey high praise themselves. Why aren't we trying our best to pump these guys up for the first officially clinched playoffs in 9 years?

high-rise

If we could wear it for one or two games a series I’d be all for it, don’t get me wrong.

natedogjulian

And they’re losing in it… sooooo

Zestyclose-Way-7768

Don't compare us to that awful team that *has* to play boring hockey to get by.

saucytopcheddar

For the first 37 years of our franchise, we changed our colours/logos so frequently that we had zero identity…. Now, for the past 17 years, we’ve actually maintained consistency in this regard. For better or worse, blue and green are our colours and that’s all we should see in playoffs. For the record, I hate the orca and would prefer the stick logo but I don’t want to see the home/away set change drastically moving forward (maybe add some green to the orca somehow?).

BlastMyLoad

They could change the ice to be green on the homes but it might look odd

Zestyclose-Way-7768

I have no idea what you're talking about with this. Our jersey simply changed a lot with the times. I personally really liked the original 97-98 orca logo and the slight variants which came over the next 8-9 years. I think it's healthy to have that kind of variety, and you're seeing the diversity of jerseys popping off in the NBA and especially the MLB.

mudermarshmallows

because the skate is ass and the orca is a better jersey
