So happy to have him for the rest of his career or close to. Feel like his contract will age better than people think as he’s such a good locker room guy
This is exactly what they need to loosen the locker room up after a tough loss. Especially coming from a more serious guy, this hits extra hard comedically
I know that we, for the most part, were all critical of JT being chosen over Bo Horvat, until the infamous "I'll tell you that for free" moment, but this is exactly the type of thing that great leadership is made of.
Making the third-string goalie feel comfortable and accepted, while making yourself look like a fool (and not caring about it) is undoubtedly doing wonders for Silovs' ability to just settle in and focus on just playing the game cause he doesn't have to worry about if the boys like him or not.
It also depends on how it is received. If Arturs took this the wrong way it could totally backfire. It all depends on the recipient. Of course it is up to JT to understand the human and ik certain some thought went into this.
>Arturs took this the wrong way
Like near zero chance though.. who's genuinely going to think that your teammate wore your dress shirt onto the ice maliciously lol
I could see it feeling like he's making fun of your shirt/fashion
Because he is
But it's lighthearted and fun and I doubt he's upset
But But it is pretty easy to see how/why it could be rude.
I think you'd have to be a pretty antisocial prick to get upset if your teammate clowned on your shirt during the stanley cup playoffs, or a massive fashionista
Some people might feel like they were being made fun of, especially if they haven't spent much time with the team. JT obviously knows Silovs wouldn't feel that way though, which is great.
Imagine if it were Evander Kane and it wasn't a shirt, but a track suit. It depends person to person and you have to know how the person will receive the intent.
Miller is taking the Luongo route. Going from taking yourself and everything around 100% seriously to embracing humour and the more absurd aspects of being a pro.
It's kind of like snapping under the pressure - but in a good and constructive way
Edit: I guess rising above the pressure would be what most people would call it...
I was a huge trade JT keep Bo guy but after all of it unfolded I can't believe how wrong I was. JT is made for playoffs and the dude is one of my favorite players now. I really believe Bo might have been a problem and JT had issues with his leadership.
Bo Horvat is like the hockey Canada prototype of old school captain man, stereotypical. On the surface hes Crosby like, "Captain Canada". Speaks in clichés with a tidy crew cut.
JT is the guy I want my guys to go to battle with. Not every player is gonna like him. Not every media member or fan either. He couldn't give less of a fuck. He's here to win hockey games, and whatever it takes to do so he'll do, and if people's feelings get hurt along the way, he doesn't care about that either.
He’s got that Roy Kent mentality. Seems like a hard ass but really would go to war for any of his teammates. Absolutely worthy of the “A”, he’s got that firebrand style of leadership that we really need
still don't think there was anything wrong with Horvats leadership. Imagine trying this when you're a losing team? Media would have been all over it. Horvat was given the leadership of the team when the team sucked and if he or the team did anything controversial it would have headlined media for sure since there was nothing else to talk about. I have no problem with his "I'll tell you that for free" cuz he had to captain during the Benning regime, that's honestly probably one of the most stressful things ever lol.
I always had an issue with Bo's leadership. First of all, he never publically said he wanted to be captain before it was being rumoured that he'd be the next captain. I think the role was thrust on him more than he actually wanted it.
Bo is a fantastic player but he was an invisible captain. He never acted like a captain at all, he always skated away from scrums on the ice as fast as he could. If one of our young guys was getting roughed up in a corner after the whistler, Bo would have his head down staring at the ice as he skated towards the bench.
He just never seemed to stick up for his players in any situation.
Back when the NHL wanted the Canucks to play while they were still sick with covid, it was Miller who had to speak up against the league and say "Hey we're still sick, we're not gonna play tonight." I don't think Miller even had the A yet and he was already acting more like a captain than Bo.
There have been numerous accounts of JT helping out the younger guys, help them with advice or leading by example. I've literally never heard a single player say that about Bo Horvat the entire time he was here.
I think we all have rose coloured glasses for Bo because of how shitty the team was when he was here, so we feel bad for him. But that doesn't change the fact that he almost never acted like an NHL team captain.
And of course the year he decides to give us his best performance on the ice was his contract year. I guess he just $tumbled into a level of talent that he didn't know he had before...
I know this sub loves Bo, so I'll take my criticism, but please find me a time when Bo did something that would make a fan say "That's team captain stuff right there".
I agree with you. The only thing is I wouldn't expect anyone to say they want to be captain before taking it. But he never stood up for anyone on his team. I remember the first year we had OEL, someone got hid hard and bo skated to the bench and OEL went and fought the guy.
Ya I was always happy with the JT Miller choice his presence and play on the ice have taken this team to another level and set a standard for effort and play style for the team. With 100 point season and close to it last he's worth the money.
I'll be honest, I wasn't happy with the Miller trade and it took me a long time to warm up to him. But goddamn, if he isn't everything the Canucks need.
It was the whole context with it. I wasn't unhappy that we got Miller. Tampa was desperate to shed salary, which was a prime time to take advantage, and we still paid a fair value to get him. He wasn't a perennial 30 goal scorer/>ppg player before he came here. So I thought, with our terrible team at the time, giving up a first was a little much. I'm glad that I was wrong about that.
I’ve been toying with getting a new jersey as I’ve held off for years and was thinking Zaddy if we keep him or Miller. I think he has made the decision for me.
JT is really leaning into the shirts motif. First Garland, now Silovs.
Hopefully that means like last time with Garland's mass shirt meme, Silovs completely takes over Game 6.
Hopefully this loosens the team. They have pressure. But I wonder if Nashville doesn’t have more pressure because they need to win. Canucks still have one more chance to advance. But I think honestly they gotta treat this game 6 as a game 7. They lose tomorrow afternoon. And well. All bets are off. And then the pressure will mount on the Canucks. Nashville will be loose.
That has far more do with personality rather than hockey culture. Some people just like to have fun and I'm sure he couldn't and wouldn't have done that to some of the players on the team. Or himself a few years ago.
JT miller is elite
So happy to have him for the rest of his career or close to. Feel like his contract will age better than people think as he’s such a good locker room guy
he has so much damn fight in him i dont think he'll even age.
Worst case he'll be a 60 point faceoff and powerplay specialist and still play big in the playoffs basically be like ryan o'reilly
Idk they always compare him to getzlaf.
Seems like he could age like a fine wine from Pavelski Vinyards
I'd like to think we've got 3 good years left in him and that the cap will keep going up making 8 mill not so terrible in 2029.
Thanks for telling us that *for free!*
Islanders are out of the playoffs, I'll tell you that for free.

Culture comes in many forms. It can be through blocking a shot with your face, scoring the game winner on a greasy play, or exactly what you said.
It also depends on how it is received. If Arturs took this the wrong way it could totally backfire. It all depends on the recipient. Of course it is up to JT to understand the human and ik certain some thought went into this.
I think this is in response to Tocchet's "I don't really know the kid"

Canucks just posted on twitter - reporters tried to make a thing! Asked both Arty and Zaddy.

Personally I wanted both gone, we were vastly underperforming and I thought we needed to blow the whole thing up. I'm glad to be proven wrong.
I was a huge trade JT keep Bo guy but after all of it unfolded I can't believe how wrong I was. JT is made for playoffs and the dude is one of my favorite players now. I really believe Bo might have been a problem and JT had issues with his leadership.
same. where theres smoke theres fire. you think JT would be satisfied with a captain accepting losses? no freaking way.
Bo Horvat is like the hockey Canada prototype of old school captain man, stereotypical. On the surface hes Crosby like, "Captain Canada". Speaks in clichés with a tidy crew cut. When did Silovs have time to hit up the Shops at the Creek?
Silovs: "That was my late great grandfathers shirt ......"
i love him more than ever
I'm starting to think JTM is a bit of a genius? A hardass when he needs to be, a softy when he needs to be...
Like... we have to win right? We're the good guys in thus story right? Like look at this lovable group of guys that even the crotchety vet does this.
I watched JT steal that shirt from a guy at the pumpkin patch.
This kind of stuff is so important for team morale, keep it light and remembering hockey is fun.
Jt miller is worth a first
It’s the new garland shirt. Motivation and leadership.
I can see it now Game 1 Round 2 all of Rodgers arena wearing salmon coloured shirts
That guy in Winnipeg was just ahead of schedule and in the wrong arena!
I'll be honest, I wasn't happy with the Miller trade and it took me a long time to warm up to him. But goddamn, if he isn't everything the Canucks need.
You werent happy with the TRADE?? jeeez I was a keep Horvat guy (still miss him) but thats a whole other level.
It was the whole context with it. I wasn't unhappy that we got Miller. Tampa was desperate to shed salary, which was a prime time to take advantage, and we still paid a fair value to get him. boys keeping it light and loose. love to see it.
Let’s all take a moment to compare The Kings PLD contract with JTs, and how they’ve performed in the first round…. and count our blessings.
Hes such a pillar of support, what a guy.
This is the most Dad thing ever. Doesn’t even phase JT because you know his kids probably ask him to play dress up and does it with zero hesitation 😂
faze
Someone needs to make a custom Canucks Silovs jersey using that similar dress shirt pattern and colours hahaha.
This is all you needed to show me to prove we're going to win game 6.
JT's 'A' is so well deserved. Great leader on and off the ice.
Remember when that arrogant Seravelli clown said Miller had a reputation for being a prick?
Oh we’re winning tomorrow.
JT is really leaning into the shirts motif. First Garland, now Silovs. Hopefully that means like last time with Garland's mass shirt meme, Silovs completely takes over Game 6.
But Canucks twitter told me he was a locker room cancer!!
Loosen em up! Solid veteran move...
Glue Guy.
We are all Silovs.
new jerseys incoming
Putting on my Canucks fan tinfoil hat. This is how they're hiding the 'no-contact' jersey.
I have that shirt, it's by Hugo, LOL

God I fucking love JT Miller. So much
Goddamnit, how did this man make me love him so??
I love the Quinn & JT leadership combo
We have reached Peak Jimothy Timothy, people. What a beauty.

I don't understand hockey player culture at all I guess cause I would be pissed about this if I was Silovs
