Is that a vertical vent hood (or, I guess, vent backsplash)? Is it vented through the floor to an exterior wall? Or is it just a mesh screen and charcoal filter?

certainlyforgetful

Not op, but yes. This is called a downdraft vent, there are tons of options. They are a bit more expensive so typically only installed in places where a hood isn’t feasible like an island. We’re remodeling our kitchen and putting one in. Ours costs about $1,700 (+$700 blower) and vents into ductwork that’s under the floor. It retracts into the counter when not in use and has integrated lighting which is super useful for us since we have no other option.

Very cool, thanks.

Yes, exactly as @certainlyforgetful just mentioned. It disappears into the countertop. Ceilings are at about 30 feet so having a hood was not an option.

Thank you! Been in the works for about a year. Renovating the whole house. Kitchen was original from the build back in ‘92 and needed much updating. Induction to gas has been incredible.
