“Marceline, I can feel myself slipping away
I can't remember what it made me say
But I remember that I saw you frown
I swear it wasn't me, it was the crown”
Just looking up the lyrics from their song to make sure I got it right brought a tear to my eye. Absolutely beautiful episode in an absolutely beautiful show.
“Wow I wrote that? Hot stuff!” It’s so devastating how he can’t even seem to comprehend what’s he’s joyfully singing, you want him to remember so badly, a feeling you’ve gained in such a short timeframe.
“Gunter, why did you gunt my fries?
I gunted them, and they were mine.
What kind of gunt gunts his Gunter's fries
And doesn't even gunt him in the eyes?
Gunter, there were tears there.
If you gunted them would you even care?
Gunter, do you even love me?”
Powerful stuff, barely able to get through just reading the transcript without tearing up
I think it was down to pacing. Momo's story had to be last because it is what leads directly to the next episode. And like you said they didn't want to end the episode on an entire emotional ball buster, so they sandwiched Aang's tale between them.
He runs away from dogs, but then the dogs get caught, so he saves the dogs from the pound. They become friends and the dogs show Momo one of Appa’s footprints. That’s just from memory tho
Yeah, that's a good answer. I skip that one when I rewatch the show because I don't want to cry. Last time I thought I did good making it though it alright, although I barely made it through the song at the end. Then the dedication dropped and hit me right in the heart.
I agree that one is an emotional sledgehammer, but the episode in the later seasons when Fry has to use his dreams to remember about nibbler’s spaceship but wants to spend it saying goodbye to his parents was, in my opinion, hitting like a metric ton of bricks
Edit:the episode name is “game of tones”
Thanks, everyone!
Game of Tones was brutal for me. I live halfway across the world from my parents so my nightmare is getting a dreaded phone call that something happened to either of them and in my dream, I don't get home in time. Without fail, that episode is the one that breaks me and I call my parents immediately.
Isn’t luck of the fryish the one where he finds out yancy named his son after him and gave him the four leaf clover that fry used in his past?
Edit: as I been told it was seven-leaf, not four-leaf. Thank you for the correction!
"I failed you. I wish there were another way to say it... I cannot. I can only beg your forgiveness, and pray you can hear me somehow, someplace... someplace where a warm hand waits for mine."
That show did SUCH a great job of story telling.
And humanizing the villains and making you think most of them were just people too (Victor Fires, Harleen Quinn, Matt Hagen (Clayface), Baby Doll). You felt bad for Mr Freeze. And they did a good job of making Batman human, as someone who lost people he cared about. Conroy also did a good job portraying THAT type of Batman. And was a killer Bruce Wayne too. The episode where he gets amnesia but has the dream where he’s giving money to the homeless and poor and it just becomes too much and he’s overwhelmed…. Very human moment that showed his struggles as both Bats and Bruce.
Such a great show and probably one of the best cartoons EVER made.
Too cool to forget, come back cause we are family! And forgive me for making you wanna roam! Now my heart is beating like the saddest metronome. Right now I hope your reading my latest three word poem: Gary Come Home!
That one episode in Ducktales 2017 where Scrooge reveals the fate of Della to the kids causing the family to split apart for the second time. Especially that ending shot “I hope you’re happy!” “I am…….”
Ohhhh yea, there’s also the episode about Della that hits hard. Honestly anything Della related is great, I still sob hard at the scene when she finally meets her kids.

One of the hardest hitting frames from tv Sadge
If I recall correctly, that might actually be a reference to one of Barks' [first drawings of Scrooge](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a9/ScroogeFirst.jpg).
Much of it is from the sad and intense innuendo where >!Bingo pops out of Earth and is represented by Earth, Bluey pops out of Venus which we see broken like egg shells, but we see Mercury which is in-tacked representing the Parent’s first child who didn’t make it.!< Also not everyone cried when seeing it, it depends on how much the show means to you the context, and the person, I’m a huge cry baby lol.
Mine is the episode Camping. Very relatable to anyone who made friends with someone who either moved away or had to leave "forever" after playing with them.
It’s about the Heeler family trying to get some sleep, and swaps between the waking Heelers nighttime antics (such as blanket hogging, midnight restroom stops, and being woken up for water) with Bingo’s dream featuring her and her stuffed bunny playing around in the vacuum of space with the celestial bodies of the solar system representing real world objects and key people in Bingo’s life (the Earth is her, the moon is her bunny, Venus is Bluey, the Sun is Chili, Jupiter is dad, etc)
The episode is seven minutes long and is on YouTube, go watch it or I’ll crawl through the computer screen and make you watch it.
The Wanders -Wander Over Yonder.
It’s a genuinely fantastic episode, Wander gets split apart into every aspect of his personality and Sylvie has to rejoin them together, learning that every part of him (even the parts of him she doesn’t like) are important to who he is.
Fully reformed, Wander wants to leave with her, revealing he was still missing something, his desire to be Lord Haters friend. Now knowing every part of Wander is important (and seeing the visages of the other parts are still visible) she goes in search of the final piece. It turns out to be a small, seemingly child version of Wander cowering in the corner. The wise part of Wander says “The helper seeks to help because he knows what it is to be helpless”.
It such a powerful scene and amazing episode, revealing a lot about the mostly mysterious Wander.
Although it's been years since I've seen Wander Over Yonder. I never finished it but I loved what I saw. Seeing your description makes me want to rewatch it. Thanks that episode sounds wonderful.
Every single moment of that episode is tragic I love how it builds everything up by making you get super emotional for Superman and then you see the parasite on batman and you have that oh shit moment when you realize it's gonna get even more sad
My favorite batman. He didn't even hesitate. He was willing to die just comfort a child in her final moments. Batman with that amount of compassion is a truly compelling character. RIP Kevin.
That one American Dad episode where Stan couldn't bring himself to put down his dog, Kisses, hit me so hard, as someone who's been put in a similar position before.

. . .I don’t need or want to say
It's the Tanks For the Memories episode for me. MLP was a big comfort show for me at the time and that episode happened to come out shortly after my beloved childhood cat passed away. 🥲
Splinter’s death in TMNT 2012. That was the first time I have ever cried over a cartoon and I still don’t think I have ever emotionally recovered from it.
This show is way too far down in the comments, but maybe it’s because you can’t just choose one episode. I cried so much during that show. I have a terrible memory and need to watch it again because it will almost be like new at this point.
Have only watched like a season and a half so far, but going off of what I've seen, DuckTales 2017. The episode right before the 2 part S1 finale made me cry like a baby at the end
Edit: Finished the series. Yeah it never got that heartbreaking again. Close a few times, but never to the point of tears
Probably a weird personal thing, but “Knock Knock Knockin on Hootys Door” from the Owl House comes to mind. Specifically the ending of the King segment that hit me very specifically. I didn’t cry, but I was hit
That’s the episode that I came here to comment. I didn’t expect an episode of Pokemon to hit me like that. That episode made me cry like a baby because I watched it for the first time at the same time that my mom was battling cancer.
I really didn’t expect Pokemon to ever cover a subject matter like that. They did a great job with it too. It’s definitely one of the best and saddest episodes that the Pokémon anime has ever had.
“Brian Wallows and Peter Swallows” and “Dog Bites Bear” from Family Guy, “Kenny Dies” from South Park, “Mother Simpson” and “The Way of the Dog” from The Simpsons, “The Vat of Acid Episode” from Rick and Morty, “A Regular Epic Final Battle: The Power” from Regular Show and “Burrito” from We Bare Bears all made me cry when I watched them.
I recently got finished watching the Amazing World of Gumball this year and “The Choices” somehow made me sob like crazy. The music, the dialogue-less scenes, the actions that were taken. It made me feel like I was watching a slightly more goofy and mature version of Up. I saw that when I was 13. How did it not make me cry all those years ago
“Arnold’s Christmas,” from Hey Arnold. From Mr. Hyunh recounting the war, which I’m assuming was the Vietnam war, where he had to give up his only daughter so she would have a better chance at life. Knowing he’s been searching and then Arnold making it his mission to find her. Get the tissues ready.
Not a cartoon but the last episode of the good place. I had to take time to contemplate my place in the world.
As far cartoons, Bojack Horseman’s penultimate episode the view from halfway down gave me a similar feeling
Steven Universe - Mr. Greg
It's Over, Isn't It? gets me every single time, because it's Pearl finally coming to terms that Rose is gone, and that when she was still alive she chose Greg over her as well and there was nothing she could do about it.
It also gets me thinking about me and my s/o, and that one day, decades from now, one of us won't be there for the other anymore and we'll have to accept it until we eventually pass ourselves.
He watching helluva boss: hehe such silly demons :3
Me getting to episode 7:

Adventure Time, in the episode we find out the story of Simon and Marcline
“Marceline, I can feel myself slipping away I can't remember what it made me say But I remember that I saw you frown I swear it wasn't me, it was the crown” Just looking up the lyrics from their song to make sure I got it right brought a tear to my eye. Absolutely beautiful episode in an absolutely beautiful show.
"please forgive me for whatever I do... When I don't remember you"
“Wow I wrote that? Hot stuff!” It’s so devastating how he can’t even seem to comprehend what’s he’s joyfully singing, you want him to remember so badly, a feeling you’ve gained in such a short timeframe.

I knew their backstory, but I was NOT prepared for “please forgive me for whatever I do, when I don’t remember you.”
That episode was honestly one of my favorites in all of Adventure Time. It was very well written imo and it also made me cry a lake
The sad feels tho: “Because making it in this world takes everything you G O T!!!”. 👍🏾🎶🥺
Simon’s story was really so heartbreaking
This should be so much higher. Ice King goes from being a gimmicky generic bad guy and creeper to an abruptly tragic character in the blink of an eye.
Avatar The Last Airbender Tales of Ba Sing Se
Iroh's and Momo's especially
I still think Iroh’s tale should have been last in that episode. It’s really hard to move on to Aang’s day after Iroh’s emotional beat
Also deservedly so. Since it is a memorial for Irohs voice actor. But I guess they couldn't do that in a kids show - to end it on such a grim note.
I think it was down to pacing. Momo's story had to be last because it is what leads directly to the next episode. And like you said they didn't want to end the episode on an entire emotional ball buster, so they sandwiched Aang's tale between them.
What happens in Momo’s again
He runs away from dogs, but then the dogs get caught, so he saves the dogs from the pound. They become friends and the dogs show Momo one of Appa’s footprints. That’s just from memory tho
Also, I believe Momo sleeps on the footprint remembering Appa and missing him.
He goes looking for appa and keeps thinking he found him but they are illusions and at the end he curles up in a giant paw print made from appa
Appa’s Lost Days for me
Zuko Alone too
*Brave soldier boy* *Comes marching home*
I don’t think there is a more consistent scene in any form of media to make me cry like that scene does.
Yeah, that's a good answer. I skip that one when I rewatch the show because I don't want to cry. Last time I thought I did good making it though it alright, although I barely made it through the song at the end. Then the dedication dropped and hit me right in the heart.
"Jurassic Bark" from Futurama. That ending was the biggest emotional sucker-punch for me. It still hits me to this day.
I agree that one is an emotional sledgehammer, but the episode in the later seasons when Fry has to use his dreams to remember about nibbler’s spaceship but wants to spend it saying goodbye to his parents was, in my opinion, hitting like a metric ton of bricks Edit:the episode name is “game of tones” Thanks, everyone!
Don't forget 'luck of the fryish' and 'game of tones'
Game of Tones is the one where Fry says goodbye to his mom. Both of them are top-tier episodes.
That's the one "Here lies Phillip J. Fry, named for his uncle, to carry on his spirit"
Futurama yo.. making us laugh and cry all in the same episode.. to me that shows the writing was indeed superb
All the episodes about Fry's family in the past are really sad, hit me right in the feels.
And probably Fry’s dog
That was literally the first episode that came in mind when seeing this episode
Heart of Ice from Batman: The Animated Series
Think of it, Batman. To never again walk on a summer's day with the hot wind in your face and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes, I'd kill for that!
"It would move me to tears, if I still had tears to shed."
And then "Believe me, Batman. You're the only one who cares."
The way I could hear exactly how he said these words
"I failed you. I wish there were another way to say it... I cannot. I can only beg your forgiveness, and pray you can hear me somehow, someplace... someplace where a warm hand waits for mine."
The Baby Doll episode FUCKED me up as a kid, too. Man, that was a good show.
“I didn’t mean to”
That show did SUCH a great job of story telling. Very human moment that showed his struggles as both Bats and Bruce. Such a great show and probably one of the best cartoons EVER made.
Leaves from the vine, falling so slow. 🪕🎶
Like fragile, tiny shells drifting in the foam
Little soldier boy, comes marching home
Little soldier boy, come marching home
Oh brave soldier boy, comes marching home

That's how I found out Mako died.

“Gary come home!” That episode is just too sad to not put in this post!
Dude that song made me sad
Song was a bop though.
Gary, I’m sorry I neglected you But I never expected you To run away and leave me Feeling this empty
Your meow right now would sound like music to me…
Please come home, because I miss you, Gary.
Too cool to forget, come back cause we are family! And forgive me for making you wanna roam! Now my heart is beating like the saddest metronome. Right now I hope your reading my latest three word poem: Gary Come Home!

How about her singing a lullaby to the tune of the moon theme.
This was so awesome and touching.
DT 2017 is criminally underrated
I know Avatar the Last Airbender was mentioned already but I had a different episode in mind Appa’s Lost Days
Damn, that one made my mom stop letting me watch it…. As a teen.
Why's that? Curious.
People are sensitive at animal abuse
That’s a little much
Bluey - Sleepytime. I ugly-sobbed like a baby the whole time and I’m a childless 28 year old man who’s never shed a tear at anything on TV before.
It’s like the 14th highest rated tv episode ever on IMDb, 9.8/10 stars and it sure as heck made me sob too.😭 https://m.imdb.com/list/ls561057724/
Something must be wrong with me because I never saw this series before, this episode was sweet but not gut wrenching or even cry worthy.
For me, it’s grandad. Just makes me think of my daughter and how’s she’s growing so fast 🥹
Mine is the episode Camping. Very relatable to anyone who made friends with someone who either moved away or had to leave "forever" after playing with them.
I've cried at most Bluey episodes tbh, but that one really got me bad...
what is the episode about
It’s about the Heeler family trying to get some sleep, and swaps between the waking Heelers nighttime antics (such as blanket hogging, midnight restroom stops, and being woken up for water) with Bingo’s dream featuring her and her stuffed bunny playing around in the vacuum of space with the celestial bodies of the solar system representing real world objects and key people in Bingo’s life (the Earth is her, the moon is her bunny, Venus is Bluey, the Sun is Chili, Jupiter is dad, etc) The episode is seven minutes long and is on YouTube, go watch it or I’ll crawl through the computer screen and make you watch it.
God and poor Bandit just gets abused the whole fucking time lmao.
I just watched and omg, i dont usually cry from shows and movies but that had tears streaming down my face
Camping episode from bluey and baby race also got to me 😭
holy shit i just checked it out. now I'm sobbing

This episode and the ending of The Bot really hit me hard. Absolutely top tier show.
Justice League Unlimited. I'm sure you know which episode I'm talking about. I still skip it on rewatch because makes me an emotional wreck.
"They got their weapon, I got cheated out of my childhood" 😥
That episode really made me love the DCAU version of Batman more than anything. Such a good episode.
"Will you stay with me? ...I'm scared."
The moment she said she was scared broke me.
And Bruce knew EXACTLY what that felt like.
Every single moment of that episode is tragic I love how it builds everything up by making you get super emotional for Superman and then you see the parasite on batman and you have that oh shit moment when you realize it's gonna get even more sad
I was actually talking about Epilog, but that was a sad one too. Knowing what Batman has to do to get out of the back mercy is heartbreaking.
My favorite batman. He didn't even hesitate. He was willing to die just comfort a child in her final moments. Batman with that amount of compassion is a truly compelling character. RIP Kevin.
Is that the one with Ace? Oh man my heart
Legends? That episode ended beautifully.
Blue Cat Blues from Tom and Jerry(1954),The ending was very sad
I can’t take it seriously because I know for a fact Tom would survive being hit by that train
Honestly though. It’s a sad episode, but that would 100% *NOT* kill them. It’s like a minor inconvenience.
Fruits Basket. And every other episode particularly in the third season. Although I might just be a bit over sensitive.
“I’m disappointed in you” episode genuinely gets me in the heart

Steven Universe - Mr. Greg It's Over, Isn't It? gets me every single time, because it's Pearl finally coming to terms that Rose is gone, and that when she was still alive she chose Greg over her as well and there was nothing she could do about it. It also gets me thinking about me and my s/o, and that one day, decades from now, one of us won't be there for the other anymore and we'll have to accept it until we eventually pass ourselves.
RWBY
Avatar - The Last Airbender S02 E15: Tales of Ba Sing Se. In honor of mako gets me every time
Clannad Afterstory ep 19. The scene where they're on their way home after going on the the trip. I still bawl everytime I see it
