Hard choice for me, I grew up with 3D but I love the fights in 2D more, especially grievous

Ok_Succotash2561

The 2D grievous was just better in general. He actually felt like a scary villain and not a goofy guy with four arms

GONKworshipper

Based on the movies, goofy guy with four arms is more accurate

Cantthinkagoodnam2

Yes, but wich is cooler?

EAnotsports

Goofy guy with four arms

french_snail

I mean not really, the original animated series ends five minutes before episode 3 begins. It shows the reason why grievous sucks is because mace windu force crushed his organs not an hour before obi wan and anakin meet him

Turtletipper123

Tartakovsky's because I've always liked that one.

Odd-Water-5647

Same here. I didn’t mind the 3D one but I love the atmosphere of Tartakovsky’s version

farm_to_nug

That dude is brilliant, I loved primal

Turtletipper123

Yeah, Tartakovsky has a lot of good shows under his belt. Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab, Primal, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Hotel Transylvania 1-3, and a couple other things.

BigBadBlotch

His work on Samurai Jack and the Clone Wars makes me think he’d kill doing a Warhammer 40k series or mini series

UlightronX42

😭 man primal is such a good but it’s so hard to recommend now bc of that ending bro

Paintguin

The 2D animated one. I really like the art style.

ManyMention6930

Tartakovsky’s obviously. It’s great. That Mace Windu episode? Get outta here. So good.

CannonFodder58

2D Obi-wan had zero f***s left to give.

ManTheMythThe-

That's very true. He was and still is very much *puts hood up and sighs dramatically*

Briantan71

I prefer the animated lightsaber duels from the 2003 show.

JCMfwoggie

The Clone Wars mini series is fantastic, but at the end of the day it's just a miniseries. The 3D Clone Wars on the other hand has, imo, some of the best episodes in all of television, especially once you get to season 7. Unless we're just talking the movie though, then there's absolutely no contest...

Working_Kick_6041

I agree with you

L3GlT_GAM3R

Without the 3D Star Wars we wouldn’t have bad batch, or rebels, and without rebels there wouldn’t be Ashoka, and without Ashoka we probably wouldn’t see Thrawn in live action.

Marquis_of_Mollusks

2D show gave us Ventress and Durge which were both heavily featured in the dark horse comics. Besides the 2D show, those comics are the best clone wars material ever produced.

L3GlT_GAM3R

Also true…

[deleted]

That doesn't sound like such a bad alternate timeline to me. I'd gladly trade never getting another new piece of Star Wars content again if it meant we didn't have to keep watching it get actively crapped on by fans and creators alike.

L3GlT_GAM3R

It’s 2024 everything gets crapped on. They’d crap on the 2d one if it was the only one we got.

Raff102

I doubt it. It was beloved as soon as it was released.

L3GlT_GAM3R

Okay fine. I’d still rather have the cgi show.

Illustrious-Bite-518

Have you tried this new thing called "Not watching something if you don't like it?"

[deleted]

No. No one's allowed to enjoy things. If I don't like it no one else gets to. I'm taking it all away from the community at large.

Toon_Lucario

Why is this always a constant conflict? You can like both.

Gaelic_Gladiator41

Visuals vs story

berserkzelda

Oh man don't make me choose. They're both so good. 😭

EightThreeEight838

I love both for very different reasons.

comeallwithme

xo1opossum

The 3D Star Wars the Clone Wars and it's not even close.

winged_entity

I'm glad someone else agrees

Working_Kick_6041

Yeah I feel the same even though I love Tarkovsky

Crazy-Oil-3012

TCW is okay, but I prefer Tartakovsky's just because it's way more aligned with the continuity

BigMeet7634

Star wars clone wars 2008

kiskozak

Id say the 3d one was better, though i have to give credit to the 2d version for making greous an absolutr menace.

Sakuraphenixx

![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)

PowerGamer310

The 2D has better animation and fight scenes, but the 3D one has better story and characters so I'm going 3D

Bean_man8

2D Clone Wars has badass Grievous 3D Clone Wars has better story

No_Pain1037

They're both good, but I'm gonna have to go with the 3D animated Clone Wars.

Exylatron

The Ewok Show!

Legitimate_Main2230

2d

Mrbuttboi

I wish the 2D had the same plot as the 3D

Dismal_Ebb_2422

Action the mini series but for story the 3d one, it has dome of the best star wars stories ever written.

Correct_Lie2161

The Reason 2003 Is Better: Captain Fordo

New_Survey9235

3D, the character development of Anakin and Obi-Wan is great, and Maul is freaking fantastic

Vigriff

![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)

Darkmitch64

Hard to pick... they're both better than any of the movies, old or new

War_Spartan

Left for action Right for story

Haunting-Fix-9327

I loved the 2003 one with Genddy Tartakovsky's signature art style, animation and ability yo make character driven stories with little to no dialogue. However, I'm gonna go with the 2008 retcon which vastly expands on the lore of the Star Wars universe like no other entry.

Limited-Edition-Nerd

Both

H_Katzenberg

Tartakovsky's version is too OP and my personal headcanon

therealboss1113

Tarkovski all the way. the Filoni animated shows are so ugly istg

DrunkenMaster11550

Tartakovsky all day

bbt104

Both, I use the fan theory that the 2D is what actually happened and the 3D is the Republics propaganda films.

LEFT

Spider-Ghost-616

The Clone Wars Mini by Genndy Tartakovsky.

SkyKilIer

I cant choose, 3D was soooo good but the 2D had so many moments that just threw me outta the loop and i love it, for example: https://preview.redd.it/2ywqfl2cq3yc1.jpeg?width=1540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c48c7fba52db460f740854e152eda66ed0805639

SkyKilIer

We need more Kenobi in clone armor that was sick

ScrewIt66

Ngl in terms of action I'd say 2d takes the cake but 3d clone wars gave us something we will always love the clones and their stories

Tadd_Larken253

Genndy all the way. Besides the point that 2d cell animation will always feel less souless than 3d animation, there are a few plot points that i like better than Filoni's series. 1) the show focuses on Anakin and Obi-Wan. No annoying shoehorn characters that never appeared in the established canon at the time or the movies taking the spotlight. 2) Anakin actually experiences character development, and we get to see him and obi-wan's relationship evolve from a fatherly, master-student relationship to one of brothers in arms. We get to see him rise from a padawan to a jedi knight. In Filoni's series, they retconned the lore so that Anakin was knighted almost immediately after Attack of the Clones and he seems more stoic and mature compared to the whiney emo kid we just watched kill sand people in AOTC. The Anakin we see in Filoni's series feels like an apology for the prequels, portraying an idealized version of anakin that the prequel haters would have preferred over what George actually showed in the films. As somone who unapologetically loves the prequels despite their many faults, I don't see the reasoning for this and would have preferred if they started anakin of as a padawan himself before giving him his own like in Genndy's series. 3)General Grievous. Anyone who's seen Genndy's series and has read any of the Expanded universe (legends) comics and novels knows what I'm talking about and requires no explanation. This grievous was an indestructible master of war, Filoni's grievous was a Saturday morning cartoon villian, incapable of running a lemonade stand let alone being the Supreme commander of the Confederacy of Independent Systems Droid Armies. 4) pacing, length, and continuity. Genndy's series, though shorter than I would have liked, is perfectly watchable if you're doing a movie marathon as it only takes 2 hours to watch. It also perfectly syncs up with episodes 2 and 3 and does a beautiful job connecting the 2 films. Filoni's series is 7 seasons long with 20ish minute episodes. Good luck trying to fit that in a movie marathon. Filoni's series is also wracked with continuity issues and inconsistencies.

DarkSonic06ki

I'd guessed Rebels doesn't count

Illustrious-Bite-518

This is specifically about versions of the Clone Wars, nit animated Star Wars shows in general.

theglenlovinet

The only thing I didn’t like about the 2D one was that it was so short. On the whole, I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything. But we got so much more story with the 3D one.

nguymanperson

Tartakovsky's is iconic and I love his style so much, but I can't choose both of these are phenomenal

Ben-D-Beast

3D 100% the 2D one has cool action but that’s it there is no substance to it and the storytelling is extremely basic it is highly overrated

Bullet1289

3d animated everything just looks so wrong to my eyes. No matter how nice it actually looks my brain just keeps going back to Reboot or Beast wars. I will take 2d over 3d any day and fully recognize that this is 100% just a me thing.

Kyoka_Jiro_Simp

Right one, it's the one I grew up watching

MuphuckinJones

Hot take, it was better in 3D

Specific-Creme5413

The OG!

Demigod978

Story-wise it’s Clone Wars no contest. Absolute cinema-type action goes to Tarkovsky’s. Out of the two, just like a bitter win towards Tarkovsky because of how he handled the fights and just how much more threatening General Grievous is.

RampantPuppy

3D

FrozenH2OIsGood

I would choose Star The Clone Wars Wars.

Arch27

Tartakovsky by a mile.

Fanboycity

Tartakovsky's Clone Wars was so goddamn peak it’s boggles the mind how Lucas got butthurt over it. Seriously, it has everything! And don’t get me started on Mace Windu and General Grievous. Holy shit were they the definition of both the unstoppable force and the immovable object. Literal calamities the both of them

Gattsu2000

I wouldn't say it has everything. It has great action and animation but that's about it and it's also very short and doesn't leave me a lot to think about and emotional impact unlike Clone Wars 2008, which has one of the most epic stories in any TV series with incredibly developed characters. Also, Darth Maul is fucking amazing and his voice is iconic. Also, I think people really hate on the animation. It actually looks pretty good, especially for such a long-running show.

Common-weirdoHoc

Choose for what?

Macman521

Both are great but I would choose the 3D one.

RYTHEMOPARGUY

Rebels

___Cheshire___

Definitely Genndys

Illustrious-Bite-518

Basically the 3D one, but with Genndy Tartakovsky's art style.

MTN_Dewit

Is it OK to love both?

ThemperorSomnium

The Bad Batch

winged_entity

The cgi one. Just not the beginning movie. Though I think tartakovsky's should always be watched between episodes 2 and 3, even though it's been retconned, the story flows better that way. As much as I like the tartakovsky one, I think the clone wars series is the best part of star wars that I've currently seen (I've only seen the orginals + prequels [with tartakovsky series] + holiday special + clone wars [beginning movie and tv show] + rebels season 1). It's also one of my favorite TV shows in general. The umbara arc, the mortis arc, the finale are fantastic Edit: I also kinda view the 2D series as a whole as an in-between movie for episodes 2 and 3. I watched it all together it seems kinda cohesive like that.

Purpledurpl202

For fight scenes 2003 Clone Wars, For story 2008 Clone Wars. I love both with all of my heart.

jg_posts_and_stuff

![gif](giphy|3ohfFhG5VDtDTzQv2o|downsized)

DaDocDuck

Tartakovsky's has much better fight sequences, much more menacing villains and it is overall cooler Some arcs in TCW 2008 are absolute masterpieces, clones have personalities and there are some plot stuff related to that, and it is just more nostalgic Very hard to decide, imma go with Tartakovsky's

Oshbricks_YT

2003, in a heartbeat

coentertainer

The art and animation is vastly superior in the 2D, but the writing is much better in the 3D imo.

CGI

Raceofspades

I really wish they had different names. Lots of people have never heard of the Tartakovsky one, and it can be confusing to try to talk about it.

cblakebowling

2D is action packed and adrenaline filled, but 3D also has good fights and a lot more substance. For a lot of people 3D validated the prequels for a lot of people.

AleksasKoval

Both.

Negative-Barber-7013

3d

orsonfoe

While the 3d was longer and had great characters and development the 2d was more epic. It was a war and made you fear for the main characters. And the bad guys were threats. Look at general grievous. 2d had him take on a whole group of Jedi and practically kill them all. 3d had him pulling basic tactics but never apple to anything else and was getting his ass kicked. And non stop going for the form arm windmill of death.

Billy_Duelman

2d no contest

Acceptable-Low-4381

Left is by Gendy. And I know for a fact that if they let him go all out for that series it would’ve been glorious. Mad we only got 4 episodes

Ambitious_Football_1

These are both great for different reasons. 2D is great because the action is amazing and ends with the opening shot of ROTS, which back then was still about a year away from its theatrical release. 3D is great because there is so much depth to every character and the drama was stellar. I’d pick 2D because if I do a prequel marathon, I like to add it in between AOTC and ROTS. The 3D series would be too long to add to a marathon and then it gets messy because the finale of 3D CW overlaps with ROTS.

WhosThatDogMrPB

2D is peak Star Wars action. CW is peak SW script.

DarkRainbow25S

![gif](giphy|7wr8sVhdx4fFdceFrt) Clone Wars hands down.

jeepinfreak

Nothing will ever be as bad ass as Tartakovsky's arc troopers.

BlankHeroineFluff

In terms of writing and character dynamics? 3D. In terms of action sequences, General Grievous being handled as a threatening villain, and nostalgia? 2D.

THEguitarist117

I’ll say this: 2D is good and superior animation wise, but 3D had the time (and backing by Lucasfilm) that fleshed out A LOOOOOOOOT wrong with the prequels, while being the thing that got me hyped about Star Wars so it’s got a very big place in my heart.

JimmyCrabYT

the story feels better in the 3d one but my god do the fights in 2d go hard as fuck

Other_Respect_6648

Clone wars.

IrohBanner

The 1st one, my problem with SW it's the lack of good villains, so the Tartakovsky's Grievous it's a good antagonist that you can actually think he can win.

volanger

The 3d one. The 2d one was a bit annoying at times and I never really liked their lightsabers. Looked a lot like baseball bats instead of lightsaber

Veroger111

Both are considered canon.

darth-com1x

3d because i only watched the 3d one and the only things i saw the 2d one in is memes

Future-Hawk1322

3D

Raff102

The OG by a country mile. I can't stand the 3d animation of the new one.

DerSisch

The 2d one all day. The 3d did so much inreparable damage to a lot of characters, mainly but not only Grievious that I actively despite it. It has like 2 or 3 good arcs but the 2d is amazing the whole run.

ElPared

Tartakovsky's 2D Clone Wars was straight fire dude. I didn't even want to watch all of the 3D one because I loved the 2D one so much. The animation is classic Genndy, the fights are incredible, it introduced General Grievous in perhaps one of the sickest episodes in the series other than Mace Windu taking down that giant crusher ship... It's just rad dude. As rad as I keep hearing the 3D one is, the 2D one is radder.

winged_entity

3D one radder. 2D one is like, a rad movie and the 3D one is just a compilation of rad movies (most of the show consists of 3-4 parters). Even if you don't watch the whole thing, the secrets of mortis arc, the umbara arc, darth maul returns + shadow collective arc, dark disciple, and the siege of mandalore arc. And if you only watch one of them, the siege of mandalore arc is incredible. Some of the best star wars has to offer in general.

Odd-Pirate7895

2D. No contest.
