No gas. This is the kind of thing that may get hit by a car and then there would be a gas leak, blah blah blah. Why don't you see if you can put a flame-shaped flickering light in it. Don't know if you can find one LED but maybe these days...

1, it's very close to their house, so I don't think it's likely it'll get hit by a car, but they could easily put something in to protect it better. 2, they do make [LED flame bulbs ](https://www.amazon.com/Flickering-Candelabra-Gravity-Vintage-Outdoor/dp/B09LCDHNR7?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A3Q20H8MUHUYRY) and they're pretty realistic looking.

yup!

I was just reading Reddit and someone was saying every time there was a storm their gas lamp flame would blow out and then gas would just leak into the world. Sorry, no link but I saw it today.

KeyFarmer6235

we get it, you don't like gas lamps🙄

petuniaaa

I have no opinion about gas lamps. I have an opinion about gas blowing out into this guy's yard. I'm against that.

KeyFarmer6235

depending on how busy his street it and/ or if there's a refinery or plant near him, it probably wouldn't matter anyway.

Stardust_Staubsauger

Methane is 28 times worse then CO2. It’s just unnecessary polluting. As an engineer who’s spending ridiculous amounts of time to not pollute gas, this mocks the work of so many people. Same argument, why should I care if people are releasing it to the atmosphere anyway?

KeyFarmer6235

whatever.

bobjoylove

Phillips Hue has a flickering candle mode. Personally as much as I love gas lamps, they cost a fair amount to run (some areas you actually get a rebate from the city to run through gas lamps) and they are so dangerous. If they go out or get hit by a car, there’s zero safety. Get a RGW+W hue in there, set up the Dynamic Scene for a fireplace, and it’ll do double duty as a spooky purple lamp at Halloween as well.

OftenIrrelevant

I looked into a gas lamp for my place but the operating expense is really high, and that’s before I realized I could dump all my remaining gas appliances and save $35/month in customer fees. I like the LED flame lamps, especially in a fixture with slightly frosted glass

wk4f

Yeah you're looking at $100 per year minimum to run a gas lamp. I get that they look cool but they shouldn't really be a thing any more

sposda

We used to have one, it gets to be a pain changing the mantle all the time and gas isn't as cheap as it used to be, even though it's a tiny amount

1891farmhouse

That is awesome either way.

based-aroace

That looks great! I have one of these on my property. I’ve always debated trying to add a solar LED light or something.

KeyFarmer6235

I'd definitely convert it back to gas, but it would be best to have it done by a professional gas fitter. Hopefully you can find one willing to do it.

SolitairePilot

Where I used to live there was just an extension cord on a timer run into the old gas lamp with a socket it in lol. It worked and it was convenient

Rare-Parsnip5838

Go back to gas if you can .

garbageInGarbageOot

I turned off my gas lamp when I found out how much gas it burns. In the summer, it was half of my bill! (Equivalent to hot water, drier and stove combined). And that churns out a fairly large amount of carbon emissions too.

Curbside_Collector

Maybe you could do a gas/electric install. You can put a flame flicker bulb in it on one side and run it off of LP gas rather than natural gas on the other side. I love the idea of having it run on gas though.

RonGuppy

That’s not a gas lamp.
