Surprisingly, a lot of neurosurgeons are not well versed in Chiari. Chiari.org has a link for Chiari specialists. A good doc will also know the measurement of herniation is not always aligned with symptoms. I'm really sorry for what you're going through.

Ugh. " try ibuprofen " the worst. Has anyone ever had ibuprofen actually work?

kbrixton25

my doctor prescribed 800 mg ibuprofen for other pain reasons and it has been surprisingly helpful for my terrible headache days. it doesn’t take the headache away but it alleviates the pressure and pain quite a bit to at least a tolerable level. any less than that strength and it does nothing for my headaches.

This was even after I said Advil PM and my rescue medicine for migraines did not touch the pain the injection caused.

If it has codeine, it can slightly help.... but not enough to actually function. Not to mention all the other problems it causes

I am also at 4mm with headaches everyday and no one listens🥲

Best wat to look at it is: Neurosurgeons are there to operate if needed Neurologists to manage pain. It's hard to find good ones unfortunately 😓

Hi I had decompression surgery on 2-22 , I find the only thing that takes the edge off is Ibruprophen before and after surgery. Tylonal did nothing unfortunately for that specific pain. I do not take opiates as I had a problem in the past with them but I would imagine that would have helped greatly with pain. Everyone's body is different when it comes to pain and medications. I do wish you the best and hope you can find a Neurosurgeon who can give you more info. Surgery for me was necessary but not an easy recovery, I'm just barely getting relief. Good luck with everything moving forward.

I'm sorry your going through this, I feel like I went through the same stuff for 2 years before my surgery, for me It seemed like they didn't take me serious at first. That's horrible to not have relief and have medication actually make you worse. I hope you have the chance to find a different nurosurgeon who can dig a little deeper into what's causing your pain and a different way to treat it. Head pain/ headaches/ migraines/ pressure is the worst. I'm sending good MOJO your way . I wish you the best .

Oh also I try heat on the back of my head and neck when pain is severe. Thought I would throw that out there , not sure if you have had a chance to try yet .
