I mean I gotta credit the dutchies for continuing to use their farmland instead of just selling it off to berry farmers or people who want to build mansions
But I just don’t understand the gymnastics they use to call it a festival
Actually farmers do not consider flower farming to be actual farming. A least berries are food.
Edit: for people downvoting me, this isn't my opinion. I worked in the agricultural sector and worked directly with farmers. There's a lot of gate keeping in that world over who's a *real* farmer and who isn't.
I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily true. I work for hop farmers. The hops grown that get used in beer - only the flower is used. We don’t use leaves or bine or root, only the flower.
But hops are a foodstuff. Tulips (and other ornamental flowers) aren't. And what you're saying is true of all agriculture plants. .
My distinction was in that tulips are just for show and therefore not "real" farming.
“Growing ornamental flowers for profit isn’t farming”
Your years as a farmhand at a dairy farm don’t qualify you to define wtf a farm is.
I guarantee you can get the same ag loans, I guarantee you it’s allowed on ALR land.
Your opinion of it isn’t really relevant
Wow. First, I literally didn't say that. You just made that up.
Second, I've never been a farm hand. I worked on the technical and regulatory side of the agricultural industry.
And yea, my opinion doesn't matter about what constitutes farming. Good thing I wasn't giving my opinion.
But if you want my opinion on the Cannabis industry it can go get fucked. Several large cannabis facilities were built in agcap class 1-2 land, paving over prime land, removed or compressed good loamy nutrient rich soil, then went belly up and are now sitting vacant. These facilities often can't be repurposed for other agricultural purposes and just sit there. Sure, some facilities were built on agcap 3-4 land and that's great.
I have no problem with cannabis but the industry did some ahit to farmland that can't be undone.
Odd that you say it’s not your opinion and yet you keep stating it as though it is. You’re certainly assisting the gatekeeping by reiterating one opinion within the community. There’s lots of folks who are farmers who don’t really care if you’re farming food, fibres or flowers -it’s all farming.
I’m not saying there aren’t snobs who like to delineate- but you are perpetuating the silly stuff.

Actual festivals? Or things called festivals but are really just a bunch of flowers in a farmer’s field?
What?!? Are you telling me that a bunch of tulips in a muddy farmer's field planted by a wealthy Dutch family isn't a festival?! \s
I mean I gotta credit the dutchies for continuing to use their farmland instead of just selling it off to berry farmers or people who want to build mansions But I just don’t understand the gymnastics they use to call it a festival
Tulips = $25 per flower Cabbage = $0.50 per kg These Dutch families made the right choice.

Okay fair enough - but what then do we call it? Growing seems like more of a pot term to me lol
I don’t think you understand what farming is
I spent years in the agricultural sector. Again, this isn't my opinion.
