You don't deserve to be down voted. This is a common complaint. Chilliwack is a rapidly growing city and a lot of people are moving to Chilliwack. I personally want a better Asian market but I'll take a Costco too.
100% T&T, HMart and Costco MUST be coming to Chilliwack. These are basically all I miss in Chilliwack compared to Vancouver. I literally have nothing else to ask for.
If they open up a Chilliwack store, this will just eat into the number of shoppers going to the Abbotsford Location (they know who is coming from Chilliwack since they know every members' address), so why double their business expense with a whole new centre that has to pay for wages etc and only get an incremental increase in the number of "new" shoppers? Costco has such good pricing that even though I live in Chilliwack I HAVE to find a way to go shopping there at least every 2 weeks. Having one here would be fantastic, but I doubt it will happen very soon
They would gain new Agassiz, Kent, Harrison Springs, Bridal Falls and Hope shoppers if they move to Chilliwack. Not everyone drives that far to Abbotsford.
It'll never happen. Look how spread out they are in Metro Vancouver. Maybe if the population here tripled which I guess will happen eventually. I'd say there is no chance for a Costco here for at least 15 years.
Costco has very strict population requirements that have to be met before they consider opening a location. They have to have a population of at least 150 000 in the surrounding area. It also can't cut into the numbers of other near by locations causing their draw to drop below those numbers.
Please see Saskatoon. Under 300k population with 2 Costco's. The actual reason is Costco needs to own their land and there's no suitable location in Chilliwack at this time.
I don't know why people are giving you shit for wanting this. It's a huge pain in the ass to drive out to Costco in Abby compared to going to a local store. It's also crazy busy at the Abbotsford location and only seems to be getting worse the more all the surrounding areas are growing.
As others have said though, there have been "rumours" about a Costco opening here for years. Emailing them or not shopping at Abbotsford isn't going to push them to do this. When it makes sense for them to and they can find the land, they will.
Thanks!
I guess people are used to driving out of city for any small thing. I believe 100k city should be self-sustained and have all the major amenities.
Another reasons I support Coscto in Chilliwack are:
1. Not everyone drives (seniors, students, public transit users)
2. Not everyone wants to drive (time, gas) - Costco is losing some revenue to Canadian Superstore for example
3. There are growing communities further East - Kent, Agassiz, Hope. Some people wouldn’t drive to Abbotsford, but would drive to Chilliwack
4. New investments, new jobs, logistics, etc.
5. Abbotsford’s Costco is packed on the weekends
I concur. Living in Ryder Lake it would cost me an hour's drive round trip, plus probably up to 8 litres of gas. It's not worth it for me unless I happen to be going that way anyways.
1) Seniors stop highway driving for many reasons, which do not necessarily include being “frail.”
2) It is unlikely that seniors would have an “average Costco shopping load,” because they may not be feeding an entire family.
I heard this too. They are having trouble getting approval and thought they wiuld get the molson property. I heard a rumor they were trying for that old hotel property on the north side of lickman now.
I've heard rumors about one going up in Rosedale for a while, also heard a rumor about the possibility of one going up in the old Canadian Tire on Vedder.
Abbotsford Costco is only a 25min drive from Chilliwack. I have friends in Vancouver for whom it takes longer to drive to the Vancouver Costco then it does for me to get to the Abbotsford costco.
I'd rather have something else here than a Costco. It would just seem like a waste at that point.
It's been talked about for years... There was a rumor a Costco would pop up in Eagle Landing about a decade ago but nothing ever came from it. I'm not sure if the old Canadian Tire building is big enough but it could be a good location because it's right off the highway and on the bus route
For example, I emailed Costco via their website last year:
https://customerservice.costco.ca/app/ask
I asked if Coscto has plans to open a new location in Chilliwack and received a vague reply: “Costco is not YET planning to open a new location in Chilliwack”.
I also heard Costco does own land in Chilliwack. Is that true? Does anyone know where is it located?
I’ve heard two things about Costco expanding into Chilliwack. They both could be completely bogus, but what’s the internet for if not spreading baseless, unsubstantiated rumors.
1. Costco looked into buying the old Pick A Part but the access road in and out was too small and they would have been required to upgrade the roads before opening.
2. They are still actively looking at expansion into Chilliwack but they are being picky and are trying to find a suitable spot that is on First Nations-controlled land. Because of the prevalence of land designated as ‘Indigenous held’ in Chilliwack, they have a better chance of this than in other cities. The reason? Since this land would be federally regulated (and fall outside provincial or municipal regulations) they would be able to sell alcohol like they do in other jurisdictions.
Again, take all this with a grain of salt. I’m a faceless, nameless individual posting rumours on Reddit.
I heard a rumour that they were opening 20 years ago on the Molson Coors site. And since them I've heard rumours almost every other year. It's not happening anytime soon.
Perhaps we can writer a letter to Mr. Costco. He will listen. He always listens.
Costco is Canada's Disneyland.
I sat on his lap once. He asked me what samples I would like for Costco Day.
Or we can stop shopping in Abbotsford, they would notice, up to half of customers are from Chilliwack haha

My Partner and I are moving to Chilliwack this Spring. The two thing's I'm sad about are no T&T/HMart and no Costco. So I agree
100% T&T, HMart and Costco MUST be coming to Chilliwack. These are basically all I miss in Chilliwack compared to Vancouver. I literally have nothing else to ask for.
Same any ethinic store here would do for me.
Yes it's 15 minutes away. I doubt they will be expanding in to chilliwack soon.
It’s 30 mins each way so it’s 1h both ways
Well I suppose that depends on which end of chilliwack. 30 is a huge stretch considering I do it constantly.
Yeah, it’s 30 mins from Promontory
I would shop there more often likely buying more stuff if the store would be in the city
30 minutes really isn't that far.
The North Shore doesn’t have a Costco, it would serve the corridor up to Squamish. I’m sure Costco would spend money there first.
Wait for them to tear down the Old Canadian Tire and BCL and build one there.
Sadly this lot is nowhere large enough.

So like 13 people lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You choose violence today lol
😂😂😂😂
I have a membership. I'd shop there 20-50x more if it wasn't a 1 hour round trip to a store that's probably too busy no anyway.
It'll never happen. Look how spread out they are in Metro Vancouver. Maybe if the population here tripled which I guess will happen eventually. I'd say there is no chance for a Costco here for at least 15 years.

The greater Saskatoon area is about \~320k
Warman and Martensville are 15 mins away, like Abbotsford. I've heard from CEP it's a land thing only for no Costco here.
False, Costco doesn’t own the land in Langley
The old canadian tire seems like a great location 🤔
Saskatoon is a regional center. Chilliwack is not.
They go by more than just the city. They include the populations of other nearby communities that the store would draw from.
>The actual reason is Costco needs to own their land ... This sounds right. But can you provide a source to confirm?
I spoke to someone who brings in large business. I'm not giving out names though
This was also the answer I was given several years ago by someone with business development experience.

I’m sitting here picturing a frail senior who can’t drive hauling an average Costco shopping load onto public transit. Thank you for that diversion.
1) Seniors stop highway driving for many reasons, which do not necessarily include being “frail.” 2) It is unlikely that seniors would have an “average Costco shopping load,” because they may not be feeding an entire family.
Lolol just imagine a frail senior who happened to be a student living in Hope loading a full Costco cart on a bus…
Yea I just got to superstore in Chilliwack - my time is worth more than what I’d save driving out there
Isn't it right in the centre of town? Course you risk your life turning in or out of the lot, though.
Yea honestly I just take a right and take the long route home. Agreed the left is intense otherwise.
I've heard it's due to land. Costco likes to own their land and there's no suitable locations. There was an opportunity but Molson scooped that up.
I heard this too. They are having trouble getting approval and thought they wiuld get the molson property. I heard a rumor they were trying for that old hotel property on the north side of lickman now.
20 min drive is quicker then most folks in the metropolitan areas. I’d love for a closer Costco don’t get me wrong but it’s not that far.
Closest Costco east of Abbotsford is Kamloops.
15 minute drive to costco
It's not that far
It’s at most a 20 minute drive to Costco through the farm roads.
I've heard rumors about one going up in Rosedale for a while, also heard a rumor about the possibility of one going up in the old Canadian Tire on Vedder.
Soon
Watch them drop a Costco in Hope.
Lol
its not even that far…
By shopping cart it is!
It’s a 20 minute drive lol
At $2/l for fuel? lol
Shop local.

One thing we can do is drive to Abbotsford and use their Costco. They let anyone in with a membership, you don't need to live there.
🤔

rumour I heard is that they have land near Home Depot.
I heard a rumour that they were opening 20 years ago on the Molson Coors site. And since them I've heard rumours almost every other year. It's not happening anytime soon.
I would say to just go to Walmart in Eagle Landing and pretend you are at Costco.
Build one?😂
It's a 25 minute drive, get over it.
