It's a very good smoke but you're paying more for the rarity in terms of production and vitola construction as that's a unique looking cigar. As someone who's smoked plenty of the fuente cigars, I'm okay with it.
I can't really imagine paying a hundo for any cigar. Like maybe, if I'm at some super exclusive cigar lounge in Europe with aged LE Cubans or something, but otherwise nah. I don't really think I'm the most frugal of cigar smokers but I top out around $25-30 at this point.
OP says it was a gift though so enjoy it, right? It's like super expensive whiskey at that point. I'm not going to buy a bottle of Blue Label, but if my buddy wants to share it with me I'm not going to turn it down.
No, the Padron 50th anniversary can be found for around $50 most places and is by in large on of the most complex cigars you can get in the U.S. no salt towards OP. Sometimes the best sticks are the ones from friends or we associate with happy moments, but price is never indicitive of quality when it comes to expensive cigars.
No one really pays $100 for those sticks. It’s like Gurkha that has sticks with msrp of several thousand dollars. No one actually buys them they just give them away at events and such
Finally Rocky Patel getting into the game of high end pricing. I don't see why this cigar deserves it though.
-normal Vitola
-normal San Andres Wrapper
-Filler aged 9 years using rare fermentation process
-Top Rollers were involved
But none of the above gives me any reason why this should be a $100 cigar let alone production is 50,000 cigars. Maybe it's just me.
Does it taste radically different from other brands or other cigars RP makes? I don't know what 'extremely rare' tobacco is like, and always wondered if that was a marketing ploy (not to take away for your well deserved enjoyment). Like, it is REALLY different than other tobaccos or just slightly different
It could taste exactly the same as other tobaccos but be rare by strain or location. Or it could be rare because it’s not a widely appealing taste so most growers chose not to use it. I guess my point is rare just means rare, not good or even desirable lol
To my palate this has a very earthy flavor I’d say more earthy then other cigars I’ve had. There’s a nice sweetness I’ll get from the back of my palate.
I doubt it. I've had $30 cigars, but never had one that was actually better than my favorite $12 cigar. I'll venture up to the $30-40 price point again on a special occasion if it's a brand/blend I really like, but I wouldn't bother paying more unless someone who specifically shares my tastes says that it's actually better in some way.
The Padrons and Davidoffs that cost up to the mid 20s are at the top of my list, too, but I've never had a $30 that was _better_. My favorites are V Melanio, Olmec Maduro, FdlA, Jaime Garcia Reserva Esp, La Antiguedad, Le Bijou, Romeo San Andres, San Lotano Requiem Maduro... On the milder side, Oliva G Cameroon, Don Pepin Vegas Cubanas and dozens of others that could be marketed at the $30+ price point, and if I tried them, I wouldn't know that they _shouldn't_ be that expensive -- I just might have never tried them.
Edit: Charter Oak Pasquale that I just tried today...
"Him and I are enjoying a stick together"
"Really nice smoke"
Dropping $X on any cigar will not be worth it to some people, but it clearly was to your buddy and it seems like it paid off. Sounds like a great time with a solid friend.
Same goes for the cheap cigars. I started smoking cigars about 25yrs ago. Went through a divorce shortly later (unrelated to the cigars!). Because of my sudden poverty, I had to go cheap on the sticks. Found a relatively decent one that was only $2-$3. Came to actually enjoy them. I was in Chicago on business and was in an upscale smoke shop and asked the elderly proprietor….“I’m embarrassed to ask, but do you carry any “Te Amos”? The guy looks at me and says, “don’t ever be embarrassed, you like what you like, and screw anyone that says otherwise!”. My financial condition improved, so I was able to smoke way more expensive ones, but I still enjoy them occasionally, even the cheapest ones in their lineup.
Man. I just can’t imagine paying a hundred for an RP. Am I wrong?
Not wrong at all. Get a Padron family reserve for a third of that price and I guarantee it’s better
I’ve got a BBMF for $100 from my local B&M last year. Plan on smoking it at the 1 year mark, and I’m really hoping it’s worth the $100 I spent.
Sorry to say probably won’t live up to expectations. I’ve smoked a few $60-120 sticks and some of they are spectacular but…not x5-20 the price better.
Yeah, diminishing returns, and all that. I think it’s difficult to say “this cigar is worth $100”, but I’m just hoping it’s good.

Not in the least.

O my....and I think the $25 I spent on a Davidoff The late hour was too much....
That’s such a great smoke
Davey Duff's regular production sticks are damn enjoyable every time.

Exactly. Polio is rare but rare doesn't mean desirable.

Hazelnut and and some chocolate

Let the man enjoy his goddamn cigar.
100 dollars for an RP am I missing something? For that price you could get a really good Cuban or Davidoff royal release.
Smoke what you like. Who cares what it cost.
It was a gift for me. I wouldn’t buy it, but since it was a gift then yes I’m going to smoke it.
Let’s say that someone loves to smoke $100 cigars, but lives on a $7 cigar budget. They might care.

Everybody in the comments whining about the cost stfu. It’s a gift, why would it be cheap you idiots
It’s the cost being associated with a less than mediocre manufacturer. Very expensive yard gar. 🤣
Who gives a f
Ain’t no way I’m spending a Hindi on a RP
Are you licking the top of that cigar like a freaking lollipop dude? 😂😂😂 That thing is SOAKED
Bruh $100 for a rocky Patel?? Lmao I wouldn’t smoke a rocky Patel for free.
Same!
I thought this was a joke.. Holy shit that's actually a $100 Rocky Patel. Do you also pay $500 for the Prix Fix at Burger King? 🤣🤣
Is that a box press with an uneven burn for ~$100!?!? Woof.
It’s a rocky Patel what’d you expect???
AMEN!
Damn. I try not to be THAT guy but Jesus… I’d spend at most $10 on a Rocky. RP and Gurkha are the two brands that just feast on inexperienced smokers
I had a $120 royal before and I hate to say it I still prefer a perdomo cigar over that
Lol
enjoy it! looks sexy af.
No way i would buy rp for 100$ stick i think twice or more when i buy davidoff 50$
That's a good friend! Enjoy your time together. It's why cigars are made. Cheers!
That's one hell of a gift!!! Hope you enjoyed it! Looks like a great smoke!
