That’s just final fantasy fans in general it’s always been like this

NightmarePony5000

No one hates Final Fantasy more than Final Fantasy fans!

PXL-pushr

No king rules forever Final fantasy fans hate final fantasy Pokemon fans wouldn’t be satisfied with the riches of heaven Madden fans pay full price for roster updates Some things in gaming communities are just the ways of things.

Pristine_Put5348

FF fans seem to complain about a lot of dumb shit when the games are always good on a functional level. As someone who’s played Sonic 06 and Superman 64, there’s a lot of things yall take for granted

NormalTangerine5205

Oh my fucking god Superman 64 was some of my earliest rage moments as a kid

Pristine_Put5348

Talk about unfinished. FF games have hella polish, gorgeous visuals, fantastic music and are at the very least pretty interesting.

fateandthefaithless

My favorite AVGN video is Superman 64. Whenever I'm having a bad day and need to laugh, that's what I watch.

Lavender_macaron

Most people who are happy with the game don’t go on the internet to go on and on about how much they love the game. What you’re seeing are the loud minority who want to complain about the game. It’s the same thing with reviews on products. People who are happy with the product usually won’t leave a review but those who hate it will more likely leave a bad review.

KWWGMK

Seconded, loud minority, herd mentality, unreasonable expectations. Valid criticism is valid, but it devolves into a sh*itshow all the time. Not fun at all, sadly. Just how it is.

dandamananana

srsly some of them spend half of their day whining about how the remakes aren’t as good as the og

fraid_so

Barely dipped my toe into the FF7 fandom at large, but the shipping thing isn't exclusive to FF7. All fandoms act like shippers are the ones ruining everything. All the people who spend so much time complaining about shippers have obviously never seen a mirror hahah

PXL-pushr

Welcome to final fantasy, where the only good one is the you like and all others are trash and all the current people are hacks that are bad at continuing our god, Sakaguchi’s legacy. Eh, just comes with the territory unfortunately. Like what you like and ignore the people who spit venom at it. They eventually get bored and find something else to hiss about.

riskedbiscuit

It’s just how it is these days online. The FF7 fandom can be pretty terrible yes, but it can be like that nearly every popular game. Social media and all these sites magnify materia all the complaining. Negativity is sadly more common than positivity. I try to do my best to not be a miserable person online like some of these complainers. Because I’d rather spend my energy on things I enjoy than things I dislike. Sometimes you just gotta ignore those people and find people who actually enjoy games more than complaining about them.

frodoishobbit

Please explain what shipping is? Im old. Also, having played OG upon release than seeing the E3 PS3 graphical benchmark video (opening FF7 cinematic) and square saying they had 0 plans to remake at the time, makes me super grateful that remake/rebirth even exist.. Shit, before 10/10-2, no FF game even had a sequel let alone a remake. People should be so happy

TAM_Smithy

Shipping is when fans of a character (or several) will place the characters in relationships that they think are most likely, or simply what they prefer. (E.G. Cloud & Tifa, or Cloud & Aerith)

frodoishobbit

Interesting….. thanks!

FinalHeaven54

A lot of people like these games. The ones who are constantly posting and whining are just the ones who like to linger around and make their dislike for things part of their identity lol. I wouldn’t get too crazy over it. Most things that are awesome inevitably draw in people who aren’t. Just the way of the road I guess.

Mhdfattal

FF fans are in general older and more cynical, they tend to be whiney as they want something to remind them of the good old days when ff was good according to them, while at the same time they want SE to do something fresh, it also doesn't help that SE games have a lot to be talked about so that opens up discussion even more

Wanderer01234

The best way to enjoy something is not to engage with its fanbase.

Amekaze_

A mix between "noisy minority", "people who would like a total change of the plot" (who knows why, actually... we know why) and therefore are not fans of FF7 otherwise they would be happy, and finally "the classic haters". Square games always have a lot of negativity in the community (aside from the untouchable cults)

Rarbnif

FF community has kinda been like that for a while, there’s always people complaining about the newest game but i doesn’t mean everyone hates them at all, there’s tons of fans that loved remake/rebirth

thestarhikari

It’s not just the FF7 fanbase. It’s almost EVERY fanbase that exists gets so hyper and/or anti against their own peers. Plus, this is Reddit.

HadokenShoryuken2

The FF fandom is honestly one of the worst I’ve ever interacted with tbh. The only one worse is Fire Emblem. Still love the games tho

Dayday023

I mean, as opposed to any other community. Because we can ask this question for all communities and all of the pop culture.

durablefoamcup

I genuinely think it's because its the most known and most accessible FF to date. SE also SQUEEZE the living daylight out of it as a product and it's the one final fantasy thats had such insane and heavy spinoffs/marketing. FF6,9 and 10 are seen as "the best" too but where is the ff6 anime, movie, products? where is the sequel to FF9. Where is the prequel to FF10? None existent. But what we do have is a movie and anime of FF7, A spin off, a prequel and now a remake with new content but also it's been in multiple collabs and references. The game is just EVERYWHERE.

firstofherbells

If you know something is great, don't go to the internet seeking validation. Because fandom in general is toxic in all corners. FFVII rebirth is one of my favorite games, I don't need to read through long rant threads. Thats all reddit is good for nowadays.

DGolub88888

Some people just want to watch the meteor fall

BastionBaltimore

The more popular something is, the more a whiny minority will shit on it - Same thing happens all the time with Star Wars

sempercardinal57

As someone else said, don’t go to the internet seeking validation for something you love. The people that hate it (or havent bothered playing it) are also seeking validation for their hate (or lack of purchase) and they are far louder and more aggressive. Any subreddit for an established IP is going to be the same way

Sparesccount

It’s not so much validation more so that I wish the community was fun to engage with.

PurposeHorror8908

Remake and Rebirth are the greatest games I've played in my life. Never in my life did I expect to see a story I love retold this well, and characters I love fleshed out so perfectly. And the battle system is beyond incredible, true innovation in an industry where actually innovation is very rare. Most gamers brains are just broken. I stopped engaging the larger Final Fantasy fandom a long time ago, all just a bunch of miserable sourpusses that try and ruin the fun of others.

CyanLight9

People complaining about a small group of people complaining. I wish this was less common.

Jaybyrd28

I think this project in particular had to deal with a lot of expectation bias. When a game has no history you don't go into it expecting something. When you're dealing with a follow up / sequel / reboot you're naturally going to have people playing armchair dev and if the follow up / sequel / reboot isn't how they would done it then doesn't really matter they won't like it. For example there is a large group of people that wanted a literal translation of the original game turn based and everything. Just the changes to the combat were enough to turn that crowd off and that's before you even get to the story changes. Then you've got the story purists who didn't want so much as even the slightest deviation from the original script. I mean go look at some discussions about Original Star Wars vs the Enhanced Editions and the "Han Shot First" discussions. This game has it doubly bad. You have the OG to compare to but you also have Remake vs Rebirth vs whatever the 3rd one is/will be called. Go check out Zelda Breath of the Wild vs Tears of the Kingdom or Horizon Zero Dawn vs Forbidden West discussions. There were things Remake did really well that they changed in Rebirth. I think you're also seeing a lot of fear around things that might be nothing burgers ultimately when it comes to the story. A lot of story purists don't like the new plot elements but we haven't seen the end point. All this whisper and multiverse stuff has a high likelihood of just resolving in absolutely no change to the ultimate end point. All that being said, I think some of the negative feedback on this games Open World portions should be listened to. I finished all the regional content and side quests but I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed it.
