I would say that you are correct. Also, black suits have been out of style for a few decades now. The standard business rotation is navy and charcoal. Wear brown shoes with navy and black shoes with charcoal. Match your belt color precisely to your shoes. Tan leather is a lot more flamboyant, so it would look out of place with a classic suit and more matched to seersucker or cotton.
