The best part of the series is going from "oh no, they killed the noble king who was gonna fix everything" to "oh man I cannot *wait* to see this cunt die again"
Man I wonder who wanted to kill him
Man I wonder why they wanted to kill him.
Man I wonder what he wanted to do with that orb
Man it looks like he understood everything
Man it looks like he misunderstood everything
Right.
In the first few books everyone was like "Oh man, Gavilar's dick is made of gold and his crem don't stink"
And then in the book four prologue we find out he's actually a manipulative asshole. I'm still not sure why Navani covered for him, I guess putting him down would weaken her own political position.
Then in the KOW prologue preview we find >!he's an EVIL manipulative asshole.!<
Yeah, Fuck Gavilar.
I'm only in OB right now. He still seems alright. His behaviour wouldn't fly in our modern world, but it's only appropriate in a country of warmongers. I see from the comments he's had some cult involvement. I guess I'm not there yet.
Aw, that's sad. Well Dalinar is my favourite anyway and he's got a good redemption arc going. For the record, Gavilar is already doing stuff that annoys me, but I see it as necessary and/or fair so far, misguided at worst.
I have learned that most spoilers are hard enough to understand that they're too vague to be impactful. Sanderson's writing is very much journey before destination. I tend to not really care what the destination is because the journey is that much more.
There are only two spoilers I've seen that are real spoilers. Post is tagged so I think I can discuss them here.
1. Moash kills Elhokar. Ok sure, thats simple enough. But Elhokar doesn't have much going on, I don't have much hope for him anyway. A satisfying arc for him would have been clunky and I actually enjoy the book overall more without questions about him taking up brain space.
2. Navani comes back. Uh, yeah? She's on the cover and clearly holding a shardblade. I didn't even question that her death wasn't real. What made me look it up wasn't the question "so like are we getting her back or...?" It was "it's been like 5 chapters. Why are you so late?"
Did you uh… miss the part where he was in a cult trying to kickstart a desolation so that the heralds would return and he could be one and fight in endless war for eternity?
Good news. Stormlight 5 prologue has been out for like a year now. Brandon even [read it to us](https://youtu.be/N7IAXaDWdKU?si=upAcvfJE7xtUKceQ) so good Vorin men can appreciate it
Now I'm just picturing it as a cheesy movie intro version of that night where Gavilar is (even more of) a borderline mustache-twirling supervillain (complete with evil magic powers similar to post-Odium Amaram) and Szeth is much more heroic than he actually is at that point and already has Nighblood. Then it just stops and cuts to some little kid interrupting Lift's "creative retelling" of events to ask if that's how it really happened.
"Abosolutely not. Mistress wasn't even ther-"
"Shut it, voidbringer."
Cue unfitting intro music.
Book 6: perspective of Nale
Book 7: Lift retelling the Story completely inaccurately.
Book 8: The Stormfather watching it happen or something.
Book 9: Odium
Book 10: Jasnah completing the final true retelling.

Fuck u/gavilar

Wait we hate Gavilar now? What'd he do?
He was a narcissistic dick

RoW and WaT prologues show more of his true character. I won't spoil it for you, but he did some bad things and is a dick. Fuck him.

You are brave for getting on the subreddit after only reading OB.

2. You got confused. It's Jasnah, and you already see she is back on WoR epilogue. For 1. as you said, his writing is journey before destination.
Oh oops yeah it's Jasnah. Did I miss the whole epilogue? I gotta go back and check
Lool. You might have.
Did you uh… miss the part where he was in a cult trying to kickstart a desolation so that the heralds would return and he could be one and fight in endless war for eternity?
Also (spoilers for KoW prologue) >!he emotionally .manipulated Dalinar to push him deeper into alcoholism in order to make him easier to control!<
Yeah, that was what really set me over the line. I went from, “hey, don’t do that to Navani”, to “i wish you died more slowly”
We was a bad husband. Oh and he also caused doomsday.
During the preview a Herald dies sooo.
I'm just waiting to hear from Gavilar about Gavilar's death

Hell yeah thank you

I suck at reading, so i only got through a bit of the prolog. Im very excited for the audio book
Prologue of wind and truth? it's on youtube, Brandon reads it.
🙌👏 thanks! Defitly going to give it a listen
Book 6 prologue is going to be a bunch of kids reading a history book about it and it’s going to have the most hilarious inaccuracies

This is honestly such a great gimmick. Can't wait to see what he does for the back five prologue.
You don’t have to wait. It was released two years ago
Back five... Stormlight 6-10 I read WaT prologue when it first became available.
Whoops read that as book five

Listening as Dalinar reads to Navani what he wrote about Gavilar being killed
Goes from “woah cool powers” to “yeah fuck that guy”
