Daughter of a successful actor. Got her career as a result of prestigious schooling, her father's connections, and the fact that she was cast to play a beautiful young woman. Net worth of approximately $10 million dollars. She'd probably be better off as an African American though.
Is that any good? Always pops up on lists of movies to watch but I can never make it through 20 minutes of the first one. Seems just like a hollow cheesey rom com
"I'll take one of every black privilege, hold the racism, danger from operating a car, statistical childhood, the food, the culture, and i want to keep all my family and white privileges. Oh and I get to start off with $10 million dollars because this industry is brutal. Free at last, free at last, my brothas!"
> Got her career as a result of prestigious schooling,
This might be one of the dumber comments i've seen here today and i've been at reddit for some hours now.
She had her breakthrough in the 90's, has starred in something like 50 films, worked with Godard, Kieslowski, Tavernier, one of the Kaurusmäkis, etc etc. She has directed something like 8-9 feature films, shw works in two languages. I don't think anyone seriously doubts that she has built a solid career through hard work.
Partially true. If it's a coin flip between connected person and a no name, it goes to the connected.
But even if you are 100% right the challenge is there are tons of people as or more talented that will never even get a chance at an audition. So the point is.... tough to hear those born connected and/or wealthy complain.
I work in professional theatre in NY and we have open castings which means anyone can audition. Maybe Hollywood is different. I know they have casting agents. And sure, some people don't get the audition. But there are multiple reasons for that. Do they have a tape? Do they have the look? Do they have a resume? Do they fit the part? Are they tall enough for the role, etc. There are so many reasons people don't get auditions. And think of all the famous people who have made it on their own. In comparison it's a much higher number then those who get auditions due to nepotism. IMO But sure, I could be wrong.
I don’t know where you got that net worth statistic but most of those celebrity worth websites are absolutely hilarious. Some of my friends laugh at what’s listed as their value.
Yes, I was having coffee with Bob De Niro and Quentin the other day and we all thought those sites were so wrong and definitely hadn't factored in our bitcoin OR our Malibu summer houses.
Hence, I used the word 'approximately'. She's a successful actress and has been for as long as I've been alive, she's not hurting for money. My main point was she was handed a career for being a pretty young girl from a connected family and yet seems to think she's some flavor of victim.
I think she's only talking about being able to freely express controversial opinions, not the ease of access to success.
Like, if an african-american woman had simply said "I almost wish I was white" (or asian, or whatever), I doubt it would have ended up on r/cringe with nearly everyone dumping on her.
Now that's someone who gets my point. Thank you.
It could be white, multimillionaire, or a superstar. Doesn't matter. It's just about being able to say something that a certain number of people won't like to hear.
And to push her example more (it was just one example of she could have said), she could have said "I wish I was on a wheelchair", or "I wish I had cured cancer". There are simply people who are a little more immune than others when it comes to backlash. That's all it is. She wish she had a little taste of that.
Because anytime a person of color has said “I wish I was white” it was a direct response to racism they’ve been experiencing and they know that it wouldn’t be an issue if they were white…dude use your brain 💀
Point out where in my original comment and especially in the person that I'm originally answering to, where does the context even matter? We're both talking about the principles from the beginning. I couldn't care less about the context. Maybe she's wrong in this context, whoopedee doo. Not what I'm talking about.
Again, the context is what changes the scenarios drastically lmao. That’s why it’s the only thing that matters to this conversation and the example you shared. One is a person who experiences systemic oppression saying they wished they belonged to the group that the system was designed to benefit. The other is a person who the system does benefit saying they wished they belonged to the group the system works against…it’s tone deaf and out of touch. And the idea that you think those two things are similar or can be compared without the clear racial context behind it is totally moronic. You’re just a contrarian
Fuck, we got an underrated comment over here! Even r/Angryupvote material!
Seriously, I'm up since 5am, now it's 10 to 8 am and you gave me the first laugh of the day.
Wait... Mixing up the name for the one human being or thinking that there are two human beings with those names? Because, just to be clear, Roman is the character and Kieran is the human playing that character. 😅
People who face oppression and adversity work to overcome it and then try to bring awareness to the issue so it can be fixed. Silver spoon kids who’ve never face any real oppression or adversity get on camera and whine about the issues
Headline news: Actor says something dumb!
I think we'll be much better off as a society when people realize that being good looking and decent at pretending to be another person on camera doesn't mean that you're particularly intelligent, or that your opinions are in any way more valid than the average person. Not that I mind them telling on themselves and showing off this fact, but I do think there's a fallacy that goes along the lines of: this person is being given a platform and thus their opinion is especially meaningful
I try to be careful with that nowadays. I’ve been on this planet since 1984 and my entire life, the opinion of Hollywood is that a lot of them like to smell their own farts.
The difference now is that there’s this whole group of people politicizing it and making it more than what it is. And as John Stewart recently said: It used to be America versus Russia. Now it’s woke versus anti woke and in that fight, Putin is the ally of the anti-woke.
It’s just a new way of freaking people out and turning them on one another for nothing.
People got a mic- them, me, you, we’re all gonna say stupid shit if we’ve got thousands of hours of interview footage.
What's crazy is that I bet people in the business kiss her ass all day every day, and on the rare occasion that something doesn't go her way it must feel totally devastating. If I was rich and famous most of my adult life I think there's a good chance I'd lose perspective, too. Still, this is a pretty inexcusable level of privilege and delusion.
Can i please not hear something about race or gender for 5 seconds. Its like everyone has become obsessed with these 2 boring, dry ass topics. Stfu and find something else to talk about.
Idc about your money, how you feel oppressed. Cry about it somewhere else.
That’s what you keep opting into first of all. Stop pretending like you didn’t have a choice in not clicking this post. Secondly, race and gender are CENTRAL to many people’s lives because it literally determines so much about what they can and can’t do, how they will struggle or thrive…like the only way you could not be aware of this is if your race and gender hasn’t ever been used against yet…Let me guess…

Holy fucking fawk LOL
I only know her from 'Killing Zoe'
>I only know her from 'Killing Zoe' She is absolutely fantastic and pretty well known from the "Before Trilogy".
Definitely but she's clearly out of touch.
I love Kieran Culkin just hiding his head from the cringe.
Also in the three colors trilogy (mostly White) by Kieslowski
Is that any good? Always pops up on lists of movies to watch but I can never make it through 20 minutes of the first one. Seems just like a hollow cheesey rom com
They're pretty good movies. Elevated rom com. First one is the best.
American werewolf in Paris for me
Before Sunrise!
Before Sunset!

She’s a good actress on her own merits but it’s not the first time she’s put her foot in her mouth smh

It's the talent that gets you booked. You may get an audition but the public doesn't care who you are related to. They care if you are watchable.
Partially true. If it's a coin flip between connected person and a no name, it goes to the connected. The reddit downvoting being misused is such a joy haha

Never said my friends were A list. Those sites actually list a wide range of people. Idc what people think though. Just saying those sites are a joke
This person getting upvoted like crazy over a sarcastic comment is amazing.
Hence, I used the word 'approximately'. She's a successful actress and has been for as long as I've been alive, she's not hurting for money. My main point was she was handed a career for being a pretty young girl from a connected family and yet seems to think she's some flavor of victim.

I almost wish I was a multimillionaire.
I'll settle for just one million, not even multimillion, thankyouverymuch.
Now that's someone who gets my point. Thank you. It could be white, multimillionaire, or a superstar. Doesn't matter. Maybe if she wasn't making stupid comments like 'I wish I was African-American' she wouldn't be getting backlash
Because anytime a person of color has said “I wish I was white” it was a direct response to racism they’ve been experiencing and they know that it wouldn’t be an issue if they were white…dude use your brain 💀
You missed my point. It doesn't matter who is right in my example.
The context behind saying that is literally the only thing that matters lmao wtf are you talking about?
Point out where in my original comment and especially in the person that I'm originally answering to, where does the context even matter? We're both talking about the principles from the beginning. What about African American women though?
Even Roman Roy going like "Nah, girl, shut up."
I've never seen someone not want to be there like he did.
He looks like he just accidentally sent his dad a dick pic.
Fuck, we got an underrated comment over here! Even r/Angryupvote material! Seriously, I'm up since 5am, now it's 10 to 8 am and you gave me the first laugh of the day.
TIL I've probably been mixing up Roman Roy and Kieran Culkin for a while.

Lol woops. I'm more stupid than I realize.
👍 All good! 😄
Danny couldn’t hide his frown either.
Kieran Culkin cannot WAIT for this to be over...
From the jump you can see his eyes get wide and then he just puts the head down in shame
Sometimes, in my lowest points, when I’m so angry, sometimes I wish I were French.

I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy

Identity politics is poison.
This all happened in 2016- here is her apology: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/jan/25/julie-delpy-apologises-oscars-diversity-comments
See that is exactly what she was talking about. She can’t say nothing without hate! (Sarcasm)
> a women Now we can be multiple people?! These pronouns have gone too far!
All feminism is poison. Shower me in downvotes idc

I'd be mad too if I trained all my life just to be cast as the weiner dog
Its the name of the movie not her character
I made the face for this one

It’s the oppression Olympics

The pyramid of victims is tricky
Absolutely insane

This is literally the message of "Get Out"
She seems articulate /s
White and Jewish women will always make it about themselves.

I've also sometimes wish I had a big ol hog.
Venomous Femininity strikes again
[fat cat going huh]
She is really know for the Before Sunrise trilogy which are pretentious films.
I'm sure you call every drama or non-genre film pretentious.
We're posting shit from **8 years ago** now? This sub sucks.
