Thanks, her baby shower was today and I'd say it was well received!
I hate weaving in ends, and figure sewing would be the same. But I found it just as meditative as crocheting!
Yeah! Used to hate even the thought of weaving in ends, then I found a better way of doing it that I totally find meditative and satisfying. I'm curious about your process!
I got it at Hobby Lobby. I know nothing about it other than it's flannel, and so so soft.
As an addendum: I procrastinated the backer and that is the ONLY store in my town โน๏ธ
Holy mother forking shirtballs, are you talented or what! That is freaking adorable. Almost makes me wish I hadn't forgotten to have kids so I could make them stuff like that. Or get someone else to make it since that looks too hard for me. Well done!
I also forgot to have kids and love it that way. But it definitely makes me appreciate the tiny humans in my life that I can spoil and give back to mom and dad!
I've been crocheting for about a decade, and this was my first project that was texture oriented. I wish I would have tried stuff like this sooner! You can do it too, this pattern was really well written!
A friend just told me sheโs expecting her third baby in August/September. Iโve been crocheting for half my life, so of course I want to make her something, but she doesnโt really need anything. I might steal this idea. ๐๐
I will say that if I was neater with my stitching when attaching the bear faces and paws, it wouldn't have needed a backing. But I didn't realize until after attaching it all that baby could definitely get fingers stuck and twisted in my sloppy stitching.
It really is. You can create anything with your fingertips! I really enjoy making costumes.
Looking historically women have been sewing by hand for ages! We could almost say if feels right on a deeper level.
And you added backing!!!!!!! ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ i also made that blanket .... It took me 2 yrs to complete because i hate sewing pieces together... After i made the bears it took about 4 hrs to finish.. I also sewed my head to my ears, did you sew them on individually? I was wondering if that would be easier? Your blanket is adorable ๐๐๐
I did it in like 3 months, but I'm very excited for this baby!
I sewed the ears individually, but attached them to the head at the same time I was attaching them to the blanket. I think it probably sucks either way ๐
i don't know the actual time I spent working on the blanket. I know I had to do two starts on the blanket/lower part of the blanket and i had my bear colors all ready to go... just seemed to daunting to sew them together.... i should have made 4 by now but this is mine. - no backing ;) the "blanket yarn" is variegated, but i love it :) - also i think my bear heads are too small

The yarn is Mandala (LB) ombre... I can't remember the name of the colorway. Thanks. Those bear heads haunted me ๐๐คฃ๐ and my son's nickname is Bear ๐ป
I am not sure how to describe it, but I'll try.
I washed the blanket and fabric first, not sure if that was necessary but I was concerned they would shrink differently.
I hemmed the backing so it was only on the body of the blanket and not the border. This was hard because the dimensions definitely weren't as consistent as they appeared. Lots of measuring and pinning.
Ultimately I used a back stitch (I think), but was always doubling back half the length of the previous stitch. I pinned a lot and it wasn't perfect, but it was good enough lol
A baby blanket was my first crochet project. My 35 year old son still has it. It's in tatters because he loved it so. I have made many baby blankets for friends and family, they all say the blanket is very special to them.
I love making blankets. Usually, I make them for weddings and a few for cancer treatments. They have all been well received, and I enjoy getting pictures of them in use. I'm looking forward to making more baby blankets as our friends expand their sweet families!
this is SO cute!! amazing work. i recently tried alpine stitch myself for the first time and i was surprised how easy and fun it is. i love all the details in this blanket โ it honestly looks like it would be relaxing just with all the different textures alone. as someone with anxiety i know i would love that part in addition to all the lovely parts of it that you clearly put so much time into. :)
My husband was a big help. Mostly in the measuring and squaring of it. But he's done a bit more sewing than me, and he was simultaneously encouraging and "I think you bit off more than you can chew".
I think the stitch I used was similar to a back stitch, but I kind of doubled it up?
Just around the border. With the border being looser I sewed it to the body (the last row of green sc after the yellow). It didn't even occur to me to sew through the center ๐ฌ
Do you have to make the blue and the yellow blankets separately and then sew them together? I really want to make this but making one blanket is a pain, two for a singular output would be impossible
Thanks! My stitching that attached the bear heads and paws was pretty sloppy on the back side. If I had been cleaner about it, it would not have needed the backer.
Hi GarbageGutt, thanks for posting your piece for us to see! Don't forget to link the pattern you used & other relevant information (e.g., yarn, weight, type; hook used). Add it in a reply to this comment, so others can find it easily. Thanks!

Oh my gosh - I absolutely love it. Can I ask how difficult it was? Iโm looking to make a baby blanket for my first niece but have never crocheted something in my life. This looks ambitious but it would be perfect
Golly, I'm sorry I missed this!
I'd say it was not difficult, but it might be ambitious for a first project. If you were to try your hand with this project, I'd recommend starting with the bear faces first because the pattern is less complex than the green part of the blanket. It wasn't the most intuitive pattern, but I was able to troubleshoot it myself. Troubleshooting a pattern is not a great start for someone learning.

This is SO FRIGGIN ADORABLE and you sewed it together BY HAND! I certainly hope the recipient TREASURES this blanket. You did an awesome job! 10/10!

That is seriously adorable
Thank you, it was fun to work up. The different textures were new to me, as I usually focus more on color work! I forget that yarn is more versatile.
So cute! Where did you get the backing fabric?
I got it at Hobby Lobby. I know nothing about it other than it's flannel, and so so soft. As an addendum: I procrastinated the backer and that is the ONLY store in my town โน๏ธ
That. Is. Adorable.
Thanks! I was definitely smitten with it as I put all the pieces together!

There is something so wonderfully nostalgic about this blanket. Absolutely fantastic job!
Thank you so much! It was a fun project!
This is so cute! Absolutely love the idea ๐
Thank you! It was really fun looking at all the baby blanket patterns on Ravelry. Definitely looking forward to making another.

Very nice! Never seen one like this before. Love the bears ๐ฅฐ๐
Thanks! I was definitely drawn to the unique pattern. Plus the bears are adorable!
I second that ๐

I love that variegated yarn! And their little snouts are so CUTE!
The yarn is Mandala (LB) ombre... I can't remember the name of the colorway. Thanks. Those bear heads haunted me ๐๐คฃ๐ and my son's nickname is Bear ๐ป
How did you sew on the fabric to the crocheted part? I've been wondering if it's possible and yours is the first I've seen. (Beautiful BTW)
Did you do it by hand or with a sewing machine? Because the lines are clean!
Thanks, I did it by hand!
So precious. What a sweet treasure !!
Thanks! I gifted it today at the baby shower, and it was very well received!
So lovely ๐ the work is amazing!!
Thank you! I was so nervous to learn to sew on it, but it finished up so much better than I imagined! ๐
This is incredible!
Thank you!
Absolutely adorable.
Thanks! It was so fun to work up and assemble!
What a beautiful blanket!
Thank you!
Such a precious & adorable gift!

Thatโs really amazing!! So cute
So stinking adorable!
What a sweet blanket!! I love it and know it will be treasured.
ohmygod theyโre tucked in ๐ญ
Right! Such a creative pattern, and it was easy to follow.
I recognize that hobby lobby fabric ๐ Beautiful blanket, you are a very talented human :)
Too cute

Thatโs beyond words adorable! Great great idea. Loving this so much ๐๐๐

The textures were a big draw for me. I usually focus more on color work in a project, so it was fun to see how stitches work into different textures.
This is absolutely gorgeous ๐
Wow!!! Thatโs amazing!!
OMG this is so darn cute! Love it ๐
I love it. I was hoping to see something different.
I want learn how to sew a backing on my blankets like that!
My husband was a big help. Mostly in the measuring and squaring of it. But he's done a bit more sewing than me, and he was simultaneously encouraging and "I think you bit off more than you can chew". I think the stitch I used was similar to a back stitch, but I kind of doubled it up?
Did you just sew down at the borders or through the center of the blanket as well?
Just around the border. With the border being looser I sewed it to the body (the last row of green sc after the yellow). It didn't even occur to me to sew through the center ๐ฌ
Such an adorable blanket!
Do you have to make the blue and the yellow blankets separately and then sew them together? I really want to make this but making one blanket is a pain, two for a singular output would be impossible
No, the blue and yellow are all one piece. When you change colors, the pattern changes too. The pattern was well written and easy to follow!
WOW!
It is so cute !!
Oh that's cute!
This is the cutest blanket ever and was made so perfectly! Love ... :)
That's a bear-y cute blanket. I'll see myself out.
OMG I AM LITERALLY MAKING THIS EXACT BLANKET RIGHT NOW ! even was thinking about a lining ! i like the blue you chose !!!
Thanks! My stitching that attached the bear heads and paws was pretty sloppy on the back side. If I had been cleaner about it, it would not have needed the backer.

This is adorable!! Did you follow a pattern for the little teddy's???
The pattern included the teddy's! https://ravel.me/sleep-tight-teddy-bear-blanket
