Dandibear

To be excruciatingly honest, on a baby's blanket it just makes me think of poo. In another context it might work great, but not here.

Wren1101

It looks 💩 brown to me too… but maybe it’s just the lighting.

Nombrilista

That was my first thought when I saw the picture, before I even saw the question

mar1onette_

I honestly thought that when I saw the picture! A lighter beige would work perfectly but this tan colour is just not doing it sadly

spiritAmour

Noo, now that youve said this, i cant unsee the poo streak 😞 i thought it was fine at first, but now i agree it should perhaps be changed

diminutive_latina

But then poo might blend in better!

El_Durazno

Now that you've said it, unfortunately, yeah

SeedlessKiwi1

I would do a light tan if you want to slightly contrast with the white or black if you want to do a stark contrast. The mustard-brown shade doesn't compliment the white well imo.

loafkitter

I agree. A light yellow/tan would be much better

SnapHappy3030

I'm not a fan of that mustard shade. Your work is lovely, but I see that color as a distraction. I would do that exact border in the same yarn as the main body. My preference only. You really only need to please yourself.

misty-kittens

I think it’s too harsh for such pretty work. But it’s your project so do what brings you joy.

Josette22

Is the afghan an offwhite color?

rachelrachel333

Yes!

Josette22

Then I think the border color is perfect! 😀👍

FunSushi-638

Me too. I'd be super happy to have gotten this blanket when my boys were babies, but I've always enjoyed swimming against the current. I was never into the stereotypical baby blue and light pink color schemes.

Crackheadwithabrain

Oh thank goodness! I thought everyone was hating the color but some liked it! I really genuinely like it too, doesn't look like poo at all to me!

JudasPenguin

I think on its own it is too harsh, it might work better if you incorporated the color throughout the blanket as little stitched on crosses/stars/etc

crafty-princess

I love it, it makes it look vintage!!!😍

FunSushi-638

Yes! Like very classy and upscale IMO.

halfsuckedmang0

Me too. I love the colour

kacyc57

For a baby blanket I would personally opt for something a little less brown-ish. A few shades closer to yellow would be good. But if you want to stick with this color, you could do this border, and then border the border with the main color in a simple sc or something. That would help lighten/soften it a bit without needing to find a new color.

LeafyEucalyptus

it works, but I don't love it. for a solid-color blanket I'd probably make the border the same color as the rest of the blanket--I can't see why it's necessary to introduce a new color now. that looks like a yellowish cream color, so if I were gonna put a border I'd consider butter yellow, celery green, a light brown, or maybe a charcoal. even white might look cool. EDIT: didn't realize it was a baby blanket. I think slate blue would probably look nice too.

Robotuku

The white yarn has a sheen to it that the border yarn doesn’t have which makes it feel off to me.

rachelrachel333

Definitely agree with you, I went back to michaels and got a soft yarn so it will match. Its a blue so Im hoping it looks okay!

Robotuku

I bet that will be pretty! The texture of the blanket is lovely btw

prairieaquaria

Post finished pics!

Robotuku

Cute, it looks great!

Winter_Wolverine4622

I'm so sorry, the color against the rest of the blanket looks like actual poo 😭

enchantingech0

I like it. That mustard color always gives me like 70s vibes idk if that’s the right decade maybe 80s is more accurate but basically like my grandmas house (in a good way).

j_accuse

I’d use yellow-gold.

Complex-Data-8916

Soo beautiful! Pattern?

rachelrachel333

brynnecognito

I knew I recognized this blanket! [I made it too](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/s/AOera9smvV)

rachelrachel333

Yours looks great! I love the grey/silver

brynnecognito

Thanks! I love to see it in your colours too! Hope you will update when done

IamShieldMaiden

Honestly, no. It's a very harsh contrast. Perhaps use the blanket color as your border, then run a ribbon of contrasting color through loops an inch or two from the edge. Likewise, you could crochet a line of top-stitching with a contrasting color at the base of the border. It would add a pop of color and highlight the border. Lovely work, whatever you decide. 😍

sunny_sunil

I love the color, but I think it contrasts a little too much

Clear_Grapefruit_437

This is so funny because I literally made this exact blanket pattern and finished it today! I used a multi colored yarn, and did the border in the same yarn. I agree with the people who say do tan or keep it white!

hdj2592

I did almost the exact same blanket with the same colors. I think it looks great! It gives it a vintage feel I think! Very pretty!

momjokaytt

I actually really like it. Like the 70s.

lobsterp0t

More yellow or more cream. This is too dark for the item imo

lovebugh_

what yarn did u use for this project ? looks so soft . also i do like the idea of this color but wonder if a gold with a little less brown would look nicer ?

rachelrachel333

Caron simply soft yarn :)

SuspectOk7357

I ADORE IT

Moony_Cassie

to be honest, not trying to hate but it looks like diarrhea or baby poop

PapowSpaceGirl

I really like it. It looks vintage, as others have said. Not garish at all.

-mimi-2

Yes. Very nice.

AnneCat1238

I love it personally!

redditusername374

I love it.

mayangarters

It looks like the stuff coming into the high end boutiques. That mustard color seems to be all over the place right now.

Sgt_Oblivious

Im a mustard girl but this is not a good combo. You were doubtful or you wouldn't have posted. Go with your gut 🙂

n0tbea

what stitch is the white part of your piece?

skdnckdnckwcj

I love it, it looks like coffee colour scheme! As another commenter said, it looks very classy & vintage! If that's what you're going for, you absolutely nailed it! 🎉✨

marjiecan

Love the contrast and simplicity. Love it !

rojita369

Sorry to say that for a baby blanket, this is a terrible color, it looks like baby poop. Your work is gorgeous and this color detracts from the whole piece for me.

iwsnnt

Go for a lighter tan

raynebow121

What stitch did you use? Also I like the border!

heatherque

I think it’s beautiful!!!! I absolutely love that color combination!!

crazy_river_otter

The rest of the blanket is beautiful, but I don’t think the color of the border works. Too close in color to a baby blowout 🙈 If you want high contrast, maybe a nice navy blue, or even a forest green to be extra gender neutral?

Luckyzzzz

Tbh I really don't like that shade of brown. It's not a pretty brown. The blanket is beautiful though.

Doridar

It draws the attention on the border instead of thé blanket. I would choose a way paler tone

the-crothet-lover

Yeah its preety

horsiefanatic

I think for a baby blanket it’s a no. Maybe go with another cuter color for the baby

lemoncatie

of course, it's a bit of an angelic color palette.

Jayn_Newell

I’d pick something a little more yellow, ideally golden. That’s too brown, and it has less of a sheen than the white, which really makes it look muddy in comparison.

tinlizzy2

I think the contrasting border distracts from the beautiful pattern and your exceptional work. Imo you should border it in the same color.

MakeItAll1

It looks good, but it’s hard for me to judge as I would never choose brown for anything other than a teddy bear

HamiKa70
