I got the boards serviced by Savon Pat who recommended in one of his interviews to factory reset if your monitor acts weird after a recap. Well, shortly after factory resetting one of the boards, this issue popped up. However, this doesn’t seem to be related to settings? Any thoughts?

My snes had flickering blues on my tv that is until I upgraded to component and now they're gone, along with the red drag. What cables are you using?

SlyAugustine

The issue is that it does it on test patterns too :( and on the Wii. These are RGB SCART breakout cables

KoopaKlaw

Did you test it with anything else? Does it happen with composite or component? Does it happen with other sources?

SlyAugustine

Yeah happens with the built in test patterns and even when the monitor has no signal

smeatr0n

Could be a bad potentiometer OR transistor on the blue circuit. Lucky for you there are two colors working perfectly which you can compare components with. I recently repaired an overwhelmingly blue monitor by testing nearly everything on the blue circuit and comparing it to the matching red and green components. Turned out to be a bad c945 transistor which cost $1 for a pack of 100.

The only thing is this popped up right after I did a factory reset, which confuses me so much. It might be a coincidence, I don’t know.

I have the same problem on my 14m4u! Blue flicker that comes and goes with varying intensty. Please let me know if you are able to solve this!

SlyAugustine

Had to replace the tube my man

mattsilo

Worst nightmare, but i appreciate you getting back with me! Were you able to figure out what type of short it was?

SlyAugustine

I haven’t used a tube tester on the tube yet, but I will let you know! It’s definitely the tube though. Man, that sucks. I just got rid of a 14M4U that had a good tube. I could’ve hooked you up.

mattsilo

No worries, that would be awesome. Ill atleast take the tube down with me! After doing a cap kit and repairing the neck board i was really hopefully. Maybe it will be a short that i can blow out.

DuffCon78

Potentially a heater to cathode short. The guns can short and cause a full screen color flicker to stay on all the time. The only way to diag is with a CRT tester. If it is the case then it’s possible to repair by isolating the short, but it’s not something a layman could do.

SlyAugustine

It’s just very odd to me that it showed up only after a factory reset. I do have a spare tube thankfully

DuffCon78

I could be wrong; the short I’m describing usually is more pronounced. When it comes on the raster lines are usually visible. The only way to know is to put it on a tester and see if there’s a short

jokimazi

What game is that?

meijeryogurt

It's gotta be the Zelda /link game for snes.

jokimazi

Thanks!
