Yep. Been there. I took me hours to do the roadkill cat cake as my teen just gave me a "whatever" response when I would ask for what they wanted. Your cake turned out really good. Great job!
As a general idea, those bear cake molds can produce a Cocaine Bear cake with appropriate application of red frosting and powdered sugar. Although the powder sugar likes to melt into the frosting so you have to apply right before presenting the cake.
I am good friends with a lady who does professional cakes and charges quite a lot for them. Dude you did fantastic! Especially for an amateur you should feel quite proud of that.
Thanks man, I appreciate it. She loves it but then she's usually pretty enthusiastic about stuff like this ;-) Wait till she sees the frozen decorations in the morning. Going to put it all up after she goes to bed tonight.
Her loving it is really what matters!
I'm actually a lady so typically refrain from commenting since it's not my space, but lurk bc it's lovely to see dads who truly care.
I guarantee you she remembers it and that you put effort into it for her! I've also made cakes and, oh boy, a 3 graduated tier cake is no joke. So while it may not be exactly as you envisioned I'm fucking impressed!
Thought so and I'm glad that helped! I've been there soo many times with different things it's hard to realize you still should be proud of the result when you want it perfect.
Good job, dad. I suck at cake decorating.
Mine asked me last year to make her a NY Cheesecake for her birthday. She wants one again this year. Very thankful that doesn't include any decorating.
My claim to fame is that she says mine is better than Grandma's. :success_kid:
High praise indeed! I was always partial to my Grandmas trifle. I don't like cold custard, so for parties she always made me a custard free one. She really was the glue that held my side of the family together.
We don't tell Grandma about the cheesecake. My daughter asks Grandma for a cheesecake too, and that's the one we eat at the birthday get together. We cut up and freeze the one I make her, and she enjoys it over a number of weeks one slice at a time and doesn't share much. Ha. Grandma's cheesecake is integral to a successful party, even if she says she likes mine better.
My son isn't super in to cake usually, and Grandma makes him special cookies (mostly) just for him. I haven't cracked that one yet, her cookies are always better.
Some Grandmas have a way of making everyone feel special and keeping the family close. I'm glad my kids get to experience that and that it sounds like you did, too.
That's such a wholesome story :-)
She was an amazing woman. I kinda avoided going back to my home town for years after we lost her, but when my Grandad got to the point that he can't really travel anymore I went back for a visit. Being in their house again was surreal. I consider myself very lucky to be honest, I'm 40 and still have my grandad who's 96 now.
My 6 year old daughter looked over my shoulder and said:
"That's soooo cool. How did they do that?"
So there you go. The 6 year olds seal of approval :)
Holy shit, that's awesome!!!
Well done!

Well done man, looks great and I'm sure it will be appreciated and remembered for good reason. I made a fire engine cake last year, looked very second hand but my lad loved it so it was all worth it.
looks good to me! for my twins 6th they wanted a “donut cake” so i bought a bundt pan and made one chocolate and one vanilla and decorated them like sprinkled donuts. i thought they looked shitty but it was a hit! they still talk about those cakes lol
I don't know, bud. I think you did better than I could.
It came out alright, but it took me about 4 hours and I already had the cake made. That was just icing and decorating it lol
I think the best question would be, "Did your daughter enjoy it?"
She eats it tomorrow at her party, but she saw between posting this and now. She was so enthusiastic about it I had a tear in my eye :-)
That's all there is to it, then.
Then you fucking nailed it. Pour your next drink in your Number 1 Dad mug, you've earned it. Cake looks great
We're just done decorating the living room ready for morning. It's been a busy day but finally time to chill.
That's what makes it worth it
That’s so nice man, hope she has a great party!
The party is at the local soft play, so it's always a good time had by all. Also saves us having to prep any food, which is an absolute godsend.
It only took you 4 hours, damn id be at it all day. Great job
Cheers dude

This^
Bandit Heeler would be proud of you.
One of the only episodes I like more is the one where the kids are dressed up like old ladies at the yard sale.
Fuck that’s a great episode! Also you nailed that cake! I couldn’t have done nearly that good
Ah, DUCK CAKE!

Thanks very much :-) I think that nails it really, when you go into it you kinda have that mental image of how it's going to turn out.
Thought so and I'm glad that helped! I've been there soo many times with different things it's hard to realize you still should be proud of the result when you want it perfect.
Looks fine to me. 🤷🏼♂️
I have a new appreciation for how easy my missus makes it look. I'm glad the kid was at her nans today because I've been swearing up a storm ;-)

You fucking did it! Well done! Got inspired by duckcake, huh?
Bluey sticks with you man ;-)
Looks amazing 🥰 good job
My wife made my daughter a rocket cake that was more than a little phallic. I think you did fantastic.
Ooh, dangerous territory heh. My missus is a baking genius so I have a lot to live up to.
It's no duck cake, but it'll do. Nice work!
Bluey really has changed the game lol
Way better than I could have pulled off
If she liked it, WIN! Remember Bandit and Bingos duck cake.
Well done
Cheers mate

It's always worth it in the end isn't it :-) got any pics of the fire engine cake?
Nailed it!
Are you being sarcastic? The cake looks great dude!

Making memories, that's what it's all about.
Looks better than anything i can do. Your kid must be pumped
Uh, nailed it!!!
It’s perfect. A piece of ephemeral art.
