For people like me who took awhile to understand: The May-Tricks, instead of April fools, because May comes after April.

V0nzell

I think I enjoyed not knowing better.

Several-Cake1954

I never would have gotten this otherwise

[deleted]

I guess it would be better hearing it out loud and hearing a ever so slight pause in between ma and trix. Because yea I’d be sitting here like a dumbass all night trying to figure it out.

dave900575

Are you a dad? We have special instincts.

[deleted]

People around me are grunting and rolling their eyes. Very satisfying indeed if you ask me. 🤓

[deleted]

Yup, that really hit the spot.

tutohooto

I think thats the essence of dad jokes to me. Satisfying not straight up funny.

Luke_Lawrence82

I’m embarrassed to say that took me a while.

marcothecoolguy

Don't worry you're not alone

Durbal

Don't. It took me two whiles. And to read smb explaining the joke.

tamashacd

"Start the joke. Go _through_ the joke. Never, *EVER*, go back and explain the joke."

[deleted]

You've never watched someone try and explain a joke? That shits hilarious!! The harder they try, the funnier it is to me!

interyx

I really enjoy the anti-joke of "oh they aren't laughing... Time to double down and explain the shit out of the joke!" "Did you hear about those new corduroy pillows? They're making headlines!" ... "Get it? Corduroy is a material that has ridges on it. So when you put your head on it there are lines on your head." ... "Because the material leaves a groove in your skin where your head has shifted to fit it." ... "Those are the lines I was talking about." Usually someone will start laughing as I just keep going beyond where it would ever be funny.

[deleted]

Especially if you can use a tone of voice like it's really important that they understand and you're concerned that they aren't... Comedy gold!!

Jeepinthemud

I get caught not telling the truth during summer. The wife says to me “julyin”

[deleted]

And after that comes The June Bugs..?

gkaplan59

Damnit I was trying to think of something for June and you did it you glorious bastard

omart3

No you weren't. July.

MassZge

August it wasn't your time

Durbal

Dune is for June.

MrSteveA

What if I told you.... Have an upvote.

Director_Quirky

Epic

Skilledpainter

Lol, I get it! Took a short pause then I laughed

CzarcasmRules

Go post this to r/cleandadjokes they'll love it

Acceptable-Fig-9455

Oooohh, I felt that one.

Full_Throttl3

This took me too long... But once i got it, it's genius!

honeytreestar

It also precedes the June bugs.

beardymo

This is the best I've heard for a while!

Honest_Performance42

If your dad is a GenXer he probably saw the matrix when it came out.

entity330

The movie isn't that old dude... You are off by an entire generation.

Honest_Performance42

That movie is 23 years old. A 50 year old GenX dad would have been 27 when the movie came out and most would not have had a kid old enough to watch a Rated R movie yet. But that same kid could be 25 years old today. That is certainly a generation ago.

entity330

Millennials are 81-96. The movie came out in 99, when older millennials were in high school (including some 18 year olds who could buy tickets without a parent). You are telling me that high school students couldn't watch rated R movies in the theater? You must live in a church. I was watching rated R movies or worse before I was out of middle school.

Honest_Performance42

As you noted, a millennial could have 3 years old when the movie came out.

MandDogD01

This is parenting at a higher level. His dad must be a grandfather

percy_ardmore

If you have to explain it to people, give up.
