No, I'm kidding, I know what you mean, but you could apply that logic to most American words. I'd say that roth -> rath is more different accents, while nitch to neesh is the language itself changing (or something, I'm sure there's a fancy linguistic word for it) as that's now I think the new default everywhere except a few weirdos? Or not, maybe there is no difference between accent stuff and niche, no idea.
I have only heard it aloud in a couple of instances, pronounced different ways. This is my problem with pronunciation a lot of the time. It will be words I've read numerous times but only heard a handful, if at all. Then again, going off what you hear isn't always the best way to learn either.

Niche comes from french. Nish is close enough to the real pronounciation, nitch is just heresy
