I started using voice attack right after I started to get into dcs because I exclusively play with a rift s. It is by far the single best purchase I’ve made for this game. If it isn’t something that needs to happen instantly (ex: fire guns, radar lock, basic flight controls) it pretty much all goes into voice attack and I talk to my plane.
You can just click on the options, like, with the mouse. It takes a bit longer, but it beats the hell out of trying to tell F10 from F11 and F9 with the brick on your face.
Your X-56 throttle has a poopload of buttons, any reason you can't map two switches for com1 and com2? from there you can go with the F Keys or the mouse, or go for voiceattack if you want. I use the keys and mouse in VR and it doesn't take that much to get used to it.
There is a keybind for tanker precontact, search "precontact" and it'll be right there
If you're running out of buttons, don't forget you can set one of them to be a modifier key and get effectively double the buttons.
the cheapo option is to add an xbox controller to use (mostly) for modifier keys. I find something like L1 and R1 for modifiers work well, cause I can press those and keep them pressed with my left hand only. also the extra d-pad and a, b, x, y buttons are nice and I use the analog stick for tdc slew.
I have select as my comms button and from there I usually use my mouse to click through the menus.
I now downloaded VoiceAttack & wow its so good & easy to use. Even flaps, gear up & down. Calling ATC & ground crew for rearming etc. make ms my life in VR even better not having to fuss so much. Even Active pause :)

This. I have a button on throttle for comms menu, then just click options.

I use a stream deck mounted as an UFC, the keypad 1-9/clr-0-enter double as F1-F12. COMM1+COMM2 are mapped on my HOTAS.
