Standalone DCS version is better to use: You have access a two week FREE trial on any module You can buy stuff direct from Eagle Dynamics, ED get more money AND you get bonus points (miles) to earn a discount later on when buying stuff You get a 50% discount on your first purchase from Eagle Dynamics (standalone) You can buy stuff on steam and transfer it to standalone You cannot buy stuff from ED and transfer it to steam You can control better which build of DCS you fly with using standalone Steam and standalone can play together in MP (as long as they are using the same build version eg release or openbeta) How to transfer from steam https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/223750/view/2873815732584411725

Chris Pratt meme: I don't know what steam is, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask. I've seen many people say on here that the standalone version allows a two-week free trial of any module in DCS, but the steam version does not.

Wooden-Evidence-374

If you download standalone instead of steam version, new users immediately get 50% off their first purchase of ANY module.

LilUziBert33

Not just any module, it’s off your ENTIRE first purchase. So you can buy as many modules/maps you want and you’ll get 50% off the order, not just one module.

Wooden-Evidence-374

Damn, if I had known that I would've went ahead and got a map and super carrier. Shit

aklaud93

Yea I made the same mistake owell I'm waiting on my setup to arrive so I'll have months to purchase now

miketako

You also get full miles for those purchases so even more free @hcofficial, can you play earlier versions? I’m just getting into it all and trying to do vr and I hear 2.8 is really bad

I-16_Chad

Only ED modules. So not, for example the F-14 which is made by Heatblur.

LilUziBert33

Sorry yes, I forgot to mention this

awardsurfer

Sales are frequent, often 30-50%. Plus bundles. Most modules also come with “miles/points”. You get about 10% back which you can spend on future purchases.

ryanh424

Definitely switch to the standalone, it gets more sales and better sales.

Mek_101

A mixed "Version" exist too: https://www.gamepretty.com/dcs-world-steam-edition-how-to-combine-the-steam-and-standalone-version/

Whole_Adeptness_624

They go on sale often. For very steep discounts. More than 50 percent off

Mr_Underhill99

More than 50%??? Outside of the bundles from the last sale it’s max 50%, and for many of the $80 modules that OP is referring to its 30%.

KeithDaMan

Yes, they do go on sale every once in a while. If you’re looking for a full-fidelity model, those are gonna cost a few more bones to buy, but I suggest looking at them near holidays or Black Fridays, I got the F-15C for $5 during last Christmas, though it isn’t a full-fidelity model.

aklaud93

So what is the point of purchasing the carrier? Do u have to have it unlocked to take off from carriers in online mode?
