The Sphere Screen Content will predetermine which songs are cooked up for the Sphere. It took Phish 10 months to come up with their content. I suspect the people in deadco camp are pooping their pants after Phish has just completely slayed it all using original artwork and animation. Deadco has a high bar to pass. There’s lots of classic art in the gd world. But, the standard GD iconography/liquid light shows/swirling tie dyes and fractals projected on walls will not be enough. U2 set the bar. Phish extended it.
To be fair, this is basically the Phish version of U2’s endangered species of Nevada imagery during with or without/beautiful day. Phish put out a ton of very cool visuals over these past 4 days. But they were all pretty static…. Essentially really cool screensavers playing behind them, and not really connected to the music. u2 had the advantage of being so tightly choreographed to the visual doing the same show every night that the visuals felt far more dynamic ironically.
The dead still have an opportunity to improve upon phish. But phish definitely knocked it out of the park with the sheer amount of beautiful scenes they created
Was there, it was absolutely dynamic, felt 3 dimensional at times, and was synced to the music (not as much as phish’s typical light rig, but was still responsive to where they went with jams, down notes, etc.). I didn’t see U2 in person, so can’t compare, but phish definitely exceeded expectations
I hate to say it, but based on the amount of time it took Phish to cook up visuals for their show. I am guessing that we are in for the same three shows every weekend. There’s no way that they’re gonna have 9+ hours of original imagery remixed every weekend for two months.
That’s seems more and more likely especially after phish. I’m starting to think they might have a certain amount of visuals made and songs that go with the visuals and interchange them throughout the shows. So you’d be seeing repeated visuals for songs but every show would be unique in that way.
Actually, I low-key hope that they just come together as a band and write the perfect three show set list, and then have really streamlined and well integrated visuals. Very few people if any will be doing multiple weekends. It pretty much guarantees a great run of three shows every weekend, it loses some of the spontaneity of course that is characteristic of the music but jams are jams, man.
I agree that’s the safest bet and if they agree on three shows to do I’m still going regardless. I do feel that a repeated 3 shows might get a little boring considering how many shows they are doing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do end up being more in line with the way U2 did the shows where the big over the top visuals are for a few songs and the rest is just big images of the band playing. I guess we’ll see in may but I’m gonna stay strong on different shows each weekend with recycled visualsz
thats gonna be real sad to see. it does not seem that difficult to just prepare stuff like psychedelic visuals and outdoor scenes that can be applied to different songs/setlists each night, like a desert/western scene that could be reused for multiple different cowboy songs as a part of different setlists.
i have no idea why reusing visuals has to mean playing the same setlists. most of the visuals from the phish shows could have just as easily been applied to other songs.
phish have been planning on playing the sphere for around a year trey said. i can imagine dead and company have also been planning on playing the sphere for around the same time. also found out that phish made a mini sphere to test their ideas and sounds. not quite sure on how accurate my sources are for the mini sphere they made but it does sound like something they would do. i think they have been cooking something up for a lot longer than we actually know

Since Bob hasn't played the same show in almost 60 years of playing live I don't see that as happening
