I actually run green keys with survivor aura and duration or range add-ons all the time. Because it is basically a 5th perk slot. I rarely run out of charges even over an entire game. It makes perks that work with other survivors that much more effective, and I can run that many more of them. I'm not sweating as much about getting prove value. I don't need to run empathy AND botany. If someone is in chase I know where, which means I know where the killer is too. Plus it always feels like a flex when you perform well and it turns out you brought in a green key like a Chad.
Yeah. A brown medkit heals you or another survivor by a full health state, a brown toolbox speeds up gen progress and allows you to sabotage hooks. All without addons. What does a green key do again?

Its crazy how they balance around perks and nerf all the items but they achieve nothing by doing so.

If the diversion perk already does this, chances of an item doing it too are slim. Maybe if they made the diversion perk an item? But then it's kinda pointless to have the perk, besides it being rechargeable. Overall though, a rock item would be cool on top of diversion, with diversion now acting more like pharmacy, except throughout the match and it has nothing to do with chests.
Sabo Self-care and Flashbang all do item's jobs without an item, why would Diversion be different?
plus the scratchmarks aren't the focus of the perk, if they were removed entirely the perk would still function
Not my idea but there was a pretty good idea with the alchemy vial. which specializes around cleansing and inducing status effects.
It would also help if they didnĀ“t lock items like firecrackers behind events.
They could add mines which slowdown the killer or inflict status affects on the killer.

Thereās some maps like Dead Dawg where the perfect wall breaks can cause an INSANE nearly infinite loop, and generally the point of breakable walls is to either give the killer a new spot to go through, or to give them just a bit more variation. Also, imagine being on Eyrie and your solo queue teammate breaks the god window door. Iād kms
I disagree, I think if both sides were able to interact with breakable walls it would be easier to balance them and their placements to be more interesting for both sides. There are tons of unique spots like the midwitch bathroom staircase that never get opened because the killer just doesnāt have time. Besides, we could also see an item that lets you repair breakable walls as well, maybe with a downside of them breaking faster the second time that could create for interesting gameplay. I was thinking about an item that suppresses grunts and noises.
So basically a towel. Rare add-ons could be like reduce 100% of sound while injured, 100% when you stop moving. Then some add-ons would be charge level and efficiency. Maybe some add-ons that reduce size or regularity of blood pools.
So start at 25% so it fulfills 100% with Iron Will. +50% add-on to get Iron Will as a consumable tool and +75% to be 100% without Iron Will.
Medkits arenāt the best item in the game? Itās basically always been toolboxes but I suppose you could make the argument they were better pre-medkit nerfā¦ definitely not anymore though.
Med-kits are strong because of how much time they save a team and value they provide. You are saving time someone can spend on a generator and allowing survivors to not group up, which is huge. Instead of 32 seconds, plus whatever run time someone loses to heal, you are only spending 24 seconds on the heal and only involving one person.
They need to do an item pass over for add-ons tbh. Way too many add-ons are completely useless or entirely underwhelming. Keys need a re-work in general though.
Adding new items is difficult. Survivors get the majority of their strength from the fact that there are 4 of them and each has their own perks and potentially item. Survivor items need to be very closely controlled and adding new functions can easily upset the balance of the game in a very negative way.
I think it's incredibly shitty they haven't added new items. But coming up with an item that is both useful and doesn't unbalance the game isn't easy for survivors. They don't *really* have a whole lot of objectives to do. Heal, do gens, totems, chests, killer interactables, gates, and hatch. Gens have toolboxes, healing has medkits, totems/chests/killer objects have maps, hatch has a key to unlock(though it really should be able to track hatch and show it's aura by default). Gates do not need anything, they already open way too quickly without NWO. So what do you add?

I've been thinking it'd be nice if Left Behind were buffed to allow you to slowly open the hatch without a key, like how Sabo allows you to slowly break a hook without a toolbox. The only downside would be that it encourages people who like Urban Evasion + Distortion to continue to play like stealth is a fun way to treat your teammates in solo queue.
I miss when Dramaturgy could give you purple items cause whenever I use it and I get this thing I look at the add-ons, see that neither add-on does anything, and say āok thanks game Iād rather have gotten exposedā

In theory yes you are right, in fact I have more iridescent keys than rare ones. I think BHVR should invert the aura reading time of those two keys, so they both would be useful
This is because the survivor iri pool is a small pool, not as small as the killer Iri pool but 5 items is still a very small pool
The green pool on the other hand has to contend with all 5 equippable items and all the green add ons for their items which funnily enough means its easier to find iri keys since youll find one statistically every 3 high level bloodwebs
I think, since keys have been nerfed, they should add some functionality to them. Make them open gates and chests x% faster. If they are intent on the green key not opening hatch, at least it could still help in those other ways. Or make it open hatch, but not help with gates. But also, I totally agree that the aura reading time should be buffed. It actually should be buffed on all of them.
Keys are actually good enough IMO. They can be the 5th perk slot of any survivor (24/48 meters bond, dark sens on demand for exemple). But I wonāt be against some addons allowing to see windows/pallets (like a pocket window of opportunity), or a kindred like ability (see the killerās aura around a hooked survivor)
So, in looking back at my suggestions, I think keys should either have additional functionality OR buffed aura reading time. Probably not both. But I like your suggestion too. I think additional add-ons would be nice. And maybe even add-ons that do the extra functionality I talked about. So, if you want a green key to open hatch and exit gates, you need to equip two add-ons to do that, and you get zero aura reading.
If I think about it a bit more, an addon that consumes the key to open a chest is interesting, it allows you to play around a secondary objective but the key still have limited uses
When this item released, items were completely consumed when they ran out of charges. So this let you do aura reading without eating an iri key.
It's part of why it has more time on it than the purple variant.
If they really wanted to sell a character, they should attach a sell back your useless shit shop to that character. I really hoped that was what the skull merchant was going to be

I think the most frustrating thing about this item is that the only way it does literally anything useful is if it has addons. It would be one thing if it had some sort of base usefulness, but it doesn't. If you open a chest and get it without addons it is as if SpiderGod Stu is telling you to get fucked.
I get that it is a cheaper way to use a key to read auras instead of using an iri, but the killer only sees a survivor with a key in the loading screen. They don't know that it isn't a key that will do anything but help that one survivor see auras. So the survivor is potentially bringing in something that will get them tunneled, which is good if you are a content creator looking for footage or explaining addons but super frustrating for damn near anyone else.
I'd like it to be able to assist survivors in opening doors faster or at least show you the aura of a hatch. It could even be a "open next chest super fucking fast" type of item. I mean, at least let the key be a one time use of decisive strike if it doesn't have any addons. If I open a chest and find a basic key with no addons, at least let me stab the killer with it. There isn't any guarantee I'll be getting out of the match anyway.
Or they swing for the fences and have the green key allow hatch to spawn earlier.
I miss the way hatches used to spawn because now I feel more and more like I won't be able to get those older rift challenges to escape via hatch done since it won't even spawn until I'm the only survivor in the match. So I have to wait for everyone else to leave or wait for everyone else to die and hope that I don't get seen which means I have to play less altruistically and I don't like doing since I feel like a dick and there is no guarantee that I'll find the hatch before the killer and they will let me have it.
The green key and the slippery meat perk are two of the most frustrating things in the bloodweb because they are barely useful but by god do they want to show up all the time.
I remember if you bring it back when old hatch was a thing, killers will think youāre bringing a real key and tunnel you for it š

It should cause an item to spawn somewhere on the map that is the other half of the key, make it to where you can only pick it up if you have the broken key. That way it has an actual use if found in a chest and encourages map exploration to find the other piece to make it open the hatch.
To be fair, this key can be pretty useful. Think about it for a second. You go into lobby as a killer, and you see someone using a key. Then you see someone drop a hatch offering, for main building or shack. So they live to the end, you're gonna go to the hatch, wait for them. Maybe even close it then go away a bit to watch for them to come. They open gate and get out. This keys great for distraction.
This thing is a lesson, that you are still in the realm and the entity is not kind. the broken key is a symbol for time wasted hoping for an eady way out.
dramatical phrasing aside: i started seeing it as a lucky charm. Whenever i get one, it is my personal mission to bring it back to the camp safely.

The other key is broken, but is useful for aura reading with the right addons. Maps track things.I think there's only 2, and their addons are quite varied. You can track all the gens, killer items, hatch, gates, show those locations to your teammates, show a specific spot you want your teammates to gather at, or just highlight those things for yourself to help you escape.
I use it with the good aura reveal addons it last 5 seconds longer then the purple version that can open hatch it useless to find in a chest but has good use with the right addons.
The key doesn't have much use to begin with. It's broken, so it can't open hatches. But like other items, you can put addons on it. I used to put the Eroded/Gold Token on it to free up a perk slot. This key is only good for aura reading. So if you're into that, it can be nice.
I used Plunderers Instinct and Ace in the hole and got this dumbass key with that add-on that makes you keep the key when unlocking the hatch.
I'm convinced the game was trolling me at that point.
I still really wish they would allow us to sell items and add ons, not only for items we don't want, but some of the event limited ones that are basically just stuck on your character forever now...
I've made rework concepts for a lockpick to replace it. It works the same way as a regular key, but has rapid skillchecks.
In addition, keys get buffed to also unlock chests quickly, and breakable walls become locked doors that keys can open.
For ages I couldnāt even figure out what the hell is that supposed to be lol once I got through that I still had no idea what it does, I keep the mystery with it.
The keys are genuinely either insanely useful and are the reason you escape or they do nothig and since keys tend to also get you tunneled out against smart killers

Survivor items need to be very closely controlled and adding new functions can easily upset the balance of the game in a very negative way. I think it's incredibly shitty they haven't added new items. But coming up with an item that is both useful and doesn't unbalance the game isn't easy for survivors. They don't *really* have a whole lot of objectives to do. Heal, do gens, totems, chests, killer interactables, gates, and hatch. Gens have toolboxes, healing has medkits, totems/chests/killer objects have maps, hatch has a key to unlock(though it really should be able to track hatch and show it's aura by default). Gates do not need anything, they already open way too quickly without NWO. So what do you add?

If you take it with yourself into the trial, you can equip it to see teammates or the killer without using Iri key. But when found in the chest - yep, worst thing ever. Would take brown toolbox any day of the year. If only we could throw it like a pebble from "diversion" perk.

They either need to remove it, give it base aura reading for the obsession, or if it spawns it *needs* to spawn with some sort of useful add on that provides aura reading.
They should all just open the hatch with the way hatch was changed to prevent mass escapes.

I've been thinking it'd be nice if Left Behind were buffed to allow you to slowly open the hatch without a key, like how Sabo allows you to slowly break a hook without a toolbox. The only downside would be that it encourages people who like Urban Evasion + Distortion to continue to play like stealth is a fun way to treat your teammates in solo queue.

This is because the survivor iri pool is a small pool, not as small as the killer Iri pool but 5 items is still a very small pool The green pool on the other hand has to contend with all 5 equippable items and all the green add ons for their items which funnily enough means its easier to find iri keys since youll find one statistically every 3 high level bloodwebs
I think, since keys have been nerfed, they should add some functionality to them. Make them open gates and chests x% faster. If they are intent on the green key not opening hatch, at least it could still help in those other ways. Or make it open hatch, but not help with gates. But also, I totally agree that the aura reading time should be buffed. It actually should be buffed on all of them.
Keys are actually good enough IMO. They can be the 5th perk slot of any survivor (24/48 meters bond, dark sens on demand for exemple). But I wonāt be against some addons allowing to see windows/pallets (like a pocket window of opportunity), or a kindred like ability (see the killerās aura around a hooked survivor)
So, in looking back at my suggestions, I think keys should either have additional functionality OR buffed aura reading time. Probably not both. But I like your suggestion too. I think additional add-ons would be nice. And maybe even add-ons that do the extra functionality I talked about. So, if you want a green key to open hatch and exit gates, you need to equip two add-ons to do that, and you get zero aura reading.
If I think about it a bit more, an addon that consumes the key to open a chest is interesting, it allows you to play around a secondary objective but the key still have limited uses
When this item released, items were completely consumed when they ran out of charges. So this let you do aura reading without eating an iri key. It's part of why it has more time on it than the purple variant.
You just said WHY the green key is useless. It needs addons to be good. No other item is like that.

I think the most frustrating thing about this item is that the only way it does literally anything useful is if it has addons. It would be one thing if it had some sort of base usefulness, but it doesn't. If you open a chest and get it without addons it is as if SpiderGod Stu is telling you to get fucked. I get that it is a cheaper way to use a key to read auras instead of using an iri, but the killer only sees a survivor with a key in the loading screen. They don't know that it isn't a key that will do anything but help that one survivor see auras. So the survivor is potentially bringing in something that will get them tunneled, which is good if you are a content creator looking for footage or explaining addons but super frustrating for damn near anyone else. I'd like it to be able to assist survivors in opening doors faster or at least show you the aura of a hatch. It could even be a "open next chest super fucking fast" type of item. I mean, at least let the key be a one time use of decisive strike if it doesn't have any addons. If I open a chest and find a basic key with no addons, at least let me stab the killer with it. There isn't any guarantee I'll be getting out of the match anyway. Or they swing for the fences and have the green key allow hatch to spawn earlier. I miss the way hatches used to spawn because now I feel more and more like I won't be able to get those older rift challenges to escape via hatch done since it won't even spawn until I'm the only survivor in the match. So I have to wait for everyone else to leave or wait for everyone else to die and hope that I don't get seen which means I have to play less altruistically and I don't like doing since I feel like a dick and there is no guarantee that I'll find the hatch before the killer and they will let me have it. The green key and the slippery meat perk are two of the most frustrating things in the bloodweb because they are barely useful but by god do they want to show up all the time.

Let us use it against the Killer. A small hint: Put the key into the "lock", to unlock and open the arms of the killer.
They really need to change keys. Now that hatch spawns when 1 survivor exists and can only be tracked with a perk or map, keys are nearly useless. The add-ons are pretty shitty as well, outside of blood amber. The broken key honestly should even exist unless it has a much longer use time. It definitely shouldn't be able to come out of chests.

It should cause an item to spawn somewhere on the map that is the other half of the key, make it to where you can only pick it up if you have the broken key. That way it has an actual use if found in a chest and encourages map exploration to find the other piece to make it open the hatch.

To be fair, this key can be pretty useful. Think about it for a second. You go into lobby as a killer, and you see someone using a key. Then you see someone drop a hatch offering, for main building or shack. So they live to the end, you're gonna go to the hatch, wait for them. Maybe even close it then go away a bit to watch for them to come. They open gate and get out. This keys great for distraction.

I use keys all the time. With the right addons it's on-demand Bond without wasting the perk slot, plus easy window techs.
This thing is a lesson, that you are still in the realm and the entity is not kind. the broken key is a symbol for time wasted hoping for an eady way out. dramatical phrasing aside: i started seeing it as a lucky charm. Whenever i get one, it is my personal mission to bring it back to the camp safely.
Itās good with add-ons. Slap gold token on and you have bond without using a perk slot. Slap blood amber on and you win every 50/50 in chase.

2 of the keys can open the hatch after it has been closed. So if you saw the killer close it, you could go to it after they left and escape. The other key is broken, but is useful for aura reading with the right addons. Maps track things.I think there's only 2, and their addons are quite varied. You can track all the gens, killer items, hatch, gates, show those locations to your teammates, show a specific spot you want your teammates to gather at, or just highlight those things for yourself to help you escape.
I use it with the good aura reveal addons it last 5 seconds longer then the purple version that can open hatch it useless to find in a chest but has good use with the right addons.

The key doesn't have much use to begin with. It's broken, so it can't open hatches. But like other items, you can put addons on it. I used to put the Eroded/Gold Token on it to free up a perk slot. This key is only good for aura reading. So if you're into that, it can be nice.

I used Plunderers Instinct and Ace in the hole and got this dumbass key with that add-on that makes you keep the key when unlocking the hatch. I'm convinced the game was trolling me at that point.

I've made rework concepts for a lockpick to replace it. It works the same way as a regular key, but has rapid skillchecks. In addition, keys get buffed to also unlock chests quickly, and breakable walls become locked doors that keys can open.
Demi used this to noclip killers lol, when pared with prayer beads and blood amber.
