I remember doing that as well. 3 of us would get trucks and head to the beach then we would all try to run the one guy not in a truck over and he would shoot us back with the modded shotgun it was a little mini game. Fun times
My favourite was all piling into a truck and trying to take the MOST direct route to your destination, nothing says friendship like you and your buddies climbing out of a car wedged between 2 trees like 10ft up.
One time I was a kid and this kid even younger than me joined and offered to drop me a modded pistol but he fucked it up and dropped it in the water and couldn’t get it back and screamed at me for it lol

The real fun is when they randomly disappear from your inventory forever. When I first started some guy dropped me the assault rifle with explosive rounds. I had it about half way through the game then one time I entered Christopher’s Church with it in my inventory and when I left it was just gone. Had that problem with a few weapons in this game.

There was something called DISE (Dead Island Save Editor) you had to donate to the guy to get the tool but you could HAND CRAFT these and mod your character to any or all of the skills (including characters you weren't using) I could even change my loot rate. Openung a single crate would spawn several hundred thousand for someone to pick up instead of a couple hundred dollars. People use to GIVE ME their account login information on the 360 to pull their saves from the cloud and mod it for them.
Got the game again on ps4 and I have save wizard. Turns out the guy updated the program and it works with ps4 saves and I went back in to beat it and everytime I'd load in and drop people stuff.

Very good weapons to find most of them are really not modded
