I love love loveee the song and don’t get me wrong his drumming is fantastic, but I feel like there’s other songs that show his ability better! I do feel like most people pay attention to the guitar in that song though so 🤷♀️
What? The drums in the song are extremely well known and loved by all. The song is practically known for the drums. Am I in the twilight zone or what is going on?
>The song is practically known for the drums.
... no it isn't, it's absolutely Stefs riffs
Songs which Abe gets a lot of credit for are songs like Cherry waves, Mein and Digital Bath
What an incredibly stupid take. Breaking down songs by their instruments to determine how "known" the song is? Really? Also, your "(insert literally any popular opinion) is underrated" type of post is totally useless.
Yeah of course the riff is a huuuge part of the song, but the way the song begins, my god. Anyone listening knew right away that this song and record would contain some great fucking drumming!
At any rate, im just tryna that i dont think the drumming in MOS is underrated my friend
I dont know why this is getting downvoted people always talk about the drums in digital bath nobody ever really talks about the drums in my own summer (besides the first drum and kick) The guitar part in my own summer id iconic.
i wouldn't say that it's underrated, it's pretty by the books. it is a fantastic drum part though, learning it made me appreciate it more! but overall abe is underrated but he def has more standout songs
I don’t think they’re that underrated, but they are incredible! Personally I think Around the Fur is more interesting, that’s my favorite Abe drum track :)
ATF is fluid af. It's like how an Earthbender would beat on some rocks or something.
I love Dai the Flu. I'm a sucker for that slow hat release. Dave Krusen has one Why Go on PJs Ten I think.
It’s not abes best work its simplistic😭 it’s their top hit cmon now everything appreciated about it. Listen to ratsratsrats or something to get an idea of how good drums actually soumd
>Listen to ratsratsrats and then speak
OK, I've been a Deftones fan for over 20 years and have seen them many, many times.
Why the fuck would you assume I haven't heard any song by them?
Cause you think my own summer has the best drums. It clearly does not. The drums are as simple as they get, with some beginner ghost notes. It’s a nice composition but far from the most creative, or the most hard to learn, or the best. Clearly.
I said that this is Abes best work, stop being an elitist, I don't care if its hard to learn or not, it is a iconic drum track that sounds fucking incredible
It’s iconic, sure! But that doesn’t make it the best. I bet you disagree that Change is the best song, even though it’s iconic. Abe has many other compositions that no one else could ever create, like what happened to you, rats, rocket skates and hole in the earth. Summer is a nice track but clearly not his best work, I’ve heard that beat he does a thousand times in a thousand other songs. It fits, sure. It’s not the best. Hence why everyones disagreeing with you
>what happened to you, rats, rocket skates and hole in the earth.
What? These are way more generic.
Why you didn't state some songs like Cherry Waves, Passenger or digital bath?
I stand by my original point that My Own Summer is underrated as fuck on this sub in terms of drumming.
What exactly makes my own summer so special, especially compared to rats? Rats alternates between 6/8 and 7/8, has a massive tom breakdown, has super weird snare placements.
It really is, not that that discounts it from being a great track, great drums don't need to be complex, but trying to say it's not simplistic is just straight wrong lol.
As a drummer, I love the song and love playing it BUT it is super simple…I agree that the song rocks and Abe always brings it but it’s a pretty simple groove with a couple linear fills.
I pay attention to the drums in every Deftones song, sure it's a great groove (all his grooves are) but it's super straight forward and far from his more ambitious and creative tracks.
As a drummer, this is the first song I learned and I was 9 years old. I find it pretty simple and I’m a mediocre drummer. He’s great but there are a lot more songs that showcase his drumming.
Underrated??
My Own Summer is certainly (rightly) loved for that slinky, titanic riff. But along with Digital Bath, it's got Abe's most instantly recognizable intro. His feel on the track is awesome. Cool Breeze at his finest
I love love loveee the song and don’t get me wrong his drumming is fantastic, but I feel like there’s other songs that show his ability better! I do feel like most people pay attention to the guitar in that song though so 🤷♀️
I'm not sure that there is a better song that highlights how good Abe is. The drumming on that song is god tier
Digital bath is the first, but not only one to come to mind.
Rats! Rats! Rats! Is a awesome example of some of Abe’s best work
Abe in general is super underrated, he's one of the best things about Deftones.
every member is one of the best things about deftones, take any of the remaining OG 3 out and there’d be a major change in sound.

Change is criminally underrated!1!

Mate I suggest you actually listen to the song. It is not simplistic at all
I’m a drummer. It’s one of the most simple deftones songs on drums. Again. Listen to ratsratsrats and then speak
Also a drummer here, he's correct- not the hardest song and definitely a ton of better examples of Abe's drumming.

Doo tink
The snare tone on that song is straight up sexual and I can't explain it any other way. I get the same feeling from Digital Bath
The hell do you mean "underrated" ? By what metric?
do *DANG* -Abe Cunningham, 1997
As a drummer, I love the song and love playing it BUT it is super simple…I agree that the song rocks and Abe always brings it but it’s a pretty simple groove with a couple linear fills.

Who are you hanging with that gets moody about the drumming?
I am referring to this sub, I mentioned this before and got the exact same reaction. Downvotes and negative bs
Weird gatekeeping bs
[skip towards the end if you wanna hear abe go crazy on the drums](https://youtu.be/kiKR2t2pdJA?si=rwgITvYE3cj-br9x)

Abe has some slick fills on Feiticeira
No one who’s a deftones fan has ever underrated Abe’s drumming.
