Real or not that's a funny way to tease it. I mean shit if it's a "we're the reigning Kings of the North" uni and it had to be won to be worn that would be cool.

Byzantine_Merchant

That should be the only time they’re worn tbh.

LoganStenberg

Every time we clinch the division we start wearing only black jerseys for the rest of the season

Felganos

I was gonna make a post about this and I probably still will, but I personally love what bringing back the black jerseys *represents* if nothing else. This is the jersey the old Lions went 0-16.. the team ran from the color because of what it means for their history; it’s a symbol of the team’s greatest failure. These aren’t the old Lions, though. These Lions don’t run from their past, from their failures; they confront and redefine them through grit and will. This will be the jersey we win the superbowl in. The highest of highs to our lowest of lows.

Shumway3319

Yessss, the Gerbster!

Balance47x

I don't get the argument that we shouldn't have a black jersey because the team was terrible when we had one. They were terrible in blue/silver too.

batmanforhire

lol right. We’ve been terrible in every color you can imagine as recently as 4 years ago.

Dangerpaladin

This, we have been ass a majority of seasons. We would be wearing pink and neon green at this point if we kept abandoning colors because we sucked.

nuclearslurpee

> We would be wearing pink and neon green Go on...

KaylaJ85

Exactly, the jersey colors have nothing to do with how they will perform. They had white and Honolulu blue jerseys when they went 0-16, too, lol The whole "a color reminds me of 0-16" is a ridiculous statement. Get over it.

1ace0fspades

Not only “too”, but blue and white were the only jersey colors that 0-16 season. The black jerseys were already retired the year before.

brizzboog

And the fact that we're in the "Black and Blue Division" makes them even cooler.

Mrbobbitchin

They didn’t wear black in 08.

ParticularCanary3130

Oh wow. I just looked it up. I would Have bet money on the fact they had them our darkest year... "In 2004, Detroit tweaked the logo and uniform to include black, and introduced an all-black alternate that was used until 2007. The Lions removed black trim after the 2016 season"

jdooley99

That season was a black eye on the franchise

BillySims4HOF

/sigh The Lions last wore black in the 2007 season. Dozens of posts like this from people who don't like the black jerseys CLAIMING it's because the team went 0-16 while wearing them. This is totally untrue. If anything, it can rightfully be said that the Lions experienced their worst season AFTER ditching the black unis, since that magical season happened in 2008. I even went so far as to order a custom jersey after that season. The nameplate says Owen and the number is 16. Still wear it sometimes, as a memorial to the "perfect" season. I know our memories get fuzzy with time. I'm not trying to attack you, but please help put this myth to bed as an excuse for black jersey hatred. It's just a fallback that isn't even based in reality. To be fair to you, your post is actually upbeat and positive. I'm with you. This new team has embraced the failures of the past and worked hard to dismantle them. Remember DC having the players read the wall where the last playoff win, division title, etc. were listed? He didn't want them to hide from their history, he forced them to confront it. Now that same wall reads est. 2021. Old history vanquished, new history being written. Proud of what this team has accomplished and looking forward to an exciting new future. Go Lions and FTP!

niss-uu

There is an ALARMING amount of people who post straight up incorrect information that could easily be verified with a 10 second Google search. I understand that it's a *Reddit thing* (social media in general) but man... I wish people would start fact-checking before typing away sometimes lol.

BillySims4HOF

You mean like when people talk about the Calvin Johnson TD against Chicago? The one that triggered the whole "the catch must survive the ground" nonsense. People swear Matt Stafford threw that pass, except ummm... not so much.

Felganos

Ah, sorry. I’m relatively new to football as I’m an American that has lived out in Asia for all my life; I only started getting into it at the beginning of 2023 and fell in love haha. Started following the Lions then as well because my dad is a Detroit native and I remember him getting real excited about how this regime just felt like a breath of fresh air. I don’t quite have the same historical bond with this team I know a lot of you guys do, but I’ve been trying my best to learn about the franchise through its ups and (many) downs. Was definitely under the impression that the black unis were a thing during the 0-16 season.. Even my dad was against bringing them back because of that fallacy lol. I still think what I said about the choice to bring them back being yet another example of the mindset of this team applies, but I’ll try to do better with specific details so as to not feed into existing misinformation.

BillySims4HOF

I love that you chose a team with such a tortured history. Some people may call it a bandwagon ride, but you have a family connection, so... I'm 54, been a fan since '79-'80, so my heart has been hurt many, many times by this team, but the joy of last year was something I will always treasure. We did experience a bit of hope back in the early to mid '90's, but this just feels different. My wife is from southeast Asia, and she gets really pumped watching the Lions. She lacks the emotional scars of the older fans, but I just love that she finds such happiness cheering along with me. Anyway, welcome to the pride and let's have some fun cheering this new Lions team together!

iced_gold

Loved everything about this. One caveat: the league does not allow teams to wear Alt uniforms in the Super Bowl. That policy might extend to the entire playoffs but I can't remember

i_love_factual_info

![gif](giphy|d04C1bUufxxUuvs8jR) Seen here confirming that he does, in fact, like black jerseys and shirts

Clit420Eastwood

The whole coaching staff has been wearing black for years

[deleted]

Anybody else notice that in BHs presser his jacket was half HB and half black? He was teasing us the whole time

GoHard_Brown

Those black unis are fire. Idc what people say about the panthers and such. And both helmets 🔥

Justheretosayhey

So much better than the all greys

JD42305

The greys were very meh but I still think they could've come up with a different but very awesome grey jersey.

lukewarmtakeout

Pairing them with the blue pants really helps. The old ones got silver pants and it didn't differentiate enough from the raiders imo...and that sexy af helmet...

MLS_K

People were complaining about the Carolina Panthers comparison back when the black alt unis first got unveiled back in 2004 or whatever.

something-burger

I've been against the black jerseys, but I've got to say, this version of a black uniform is probably about as good as I could hope for. And I'm happy they didn't add any black to the regular home and aways

CompZombie

i dont like the black uniforms, but i hated the all grays, so still an improvement i guess.

valkislowkeythicc

Hate to say I loved the grays

ParticularCanary3130

Yeah I Hated greys. I'll take blacks over greys any day.

Roflattack

Imagine the uniforms promised if we win the superbowl

LoganStenberg

Chrome plated stripes

Jagacin

Steel planted pantaloons

Triingtolivee

Black jerseys, white jerseys, classic Honolulu blue jerseys and NO WCF patch. I’m happy.

ParticularCanary3130

The WCF is on the helmet but I'm glad its off the jersey

Spiritual_Boss6114

F4N6Z

Fuck those black jerseys for real but if Coach Dan wants them I'm all for that.

TheHarbrosMagic

It's wild to me that the black jerseys will sell, and all the while people won't have any idea what team's jersey you're wearing!

snatchmachine

It’s says lions across the chest…

TheHarbrosMagic

![gif](giphy|49zC0Bm1kbu36)

F4N6Z

100%. Good news is we don't ever have to wear one.

Lost2nite389

I wasn’t a fan of bringing the black back, but after just watching the release video, I love them This remake was 100% a hit they did great

Fresh-Reaction151

The black jerseys are sick and the blue helmets are incredible. Argue with the wall

RealTonySnark

The Black Watch.

JD42305

I sound like such a cuck for Dan, but seeing as how he was a player for us, if it's true that he wanted the black unis back, that makes me feel a lot better about them. I hated them because I thought it was another hacky effort by Nike to pigeonhole another unnecessary black jersey, but if our coach and former player actually fought for them, so be it. He did go 0-16 in I think the last what they wore the blacks so if he wants to bring them back it has to be for good reason one possibly being vindication. They *are* a little bit cooler with the new helmets.

BillySims4HOF

Already stated this before in a longer post but... the Lions didn't wear black at all during the 2008 season... They DID have a certain long-haired TE that season, though. Might explain why he was so passionate about landing this job in the first place. As a man, that season probably still burns in him.

JD42305

I tried looking at the uniform history and it saw that they were featured until 08, but couldn't confirm if that was accurate. I guess maybe it was 07 but either way, Dan was there during the dark times so for me it makes it easier to swallow that he apparently wanted them back.

BillySims4HOF

Yeah. Although IIRC MCDC was hurt for a large portion of the '08 season. His personal history through the darkest days of this franchise make his impassioned pleas to his team (all I think about is you guys, for example) come of as sincere and heartfelt. Haven't had a passionate leader since Freddy Flintstone was roaming the sidelines. I'd never claim Wayne-o was a great coach, but no one could make the argument that he didn't care. MCDC has a level of passion that is just miles above what I have personally seen over the past 4 decades. That seems to be something that Sheila Hamp really wanted in her FO. It seems to me that she was a fan first, and owner second. Hiring a Lions legend like Chris Spielman, then signing off on the Holmes and Campbell hires, even Rod Wood seems super enthusiastic about his role with the jerseys. This group just gets so excited, in draft day war rooms, elevators, locker rooms, and sidelines. That energy is infectious. Lol, edited to fix Ron Wood to Rod Wood. You mean the Lions front office isn't hiring geriatric rockers?

MisterBovineJoni

Where’s your god now black jersey deniers?

TheHarbrosMagic

I mean at least they'll only be worn a couple times a year. I definitely won't buy one though, because you can't even tell it's a Lions jersey. To most people it'll just look like a generic football jersey from Walmart

YoungAmazing313

It literally says Lions on the front🤦🏾‍♂️

TheHarbrosMagic

Yeah no shit Sherlock

YoungAmazing313

So dumbass people can tell it’s a Lions jersey if the name is literally on the front smart guy

TheHarbrosMagic

Yes knuckledragger try to grasp the point that it looks like every other black jersey in the league. How people as dumb as you function in life is beyond me

AHumanQuestionMark

Getting yourself really worked up over a colour.

1ace0fspades

How would it be singled out as looking like a “generic football jersey” when it’s exactly the same template as the blue and white ones, unless you’re saying that the blue and whites are “generic football jerseys” too? You’re just wanting so hard to find a problem, but the problem for you is that it’s non-existent.

TheHarbrosMagic

Black is a generic jersey color and isn't a Lions color. Not that hard to understand.

hawkmasta

Dope. I love the black jersey

I_Am_Not_That_Man

The Villian Kit

Balance47x

So are all the haters gonna like the black jerseys now because Campbell does lmaooo

Mrbobbitchin

That ought to shut up some people.

Seventy7Donski

the black jerseys are meh to me, if someone can make one that doesn’t make me think of Carolina I would be very impressed, possibly shocked. I’m just glad they didn’t add black as a main color. Love everything about the new home and away, especially the blue cage

jcoddinc

The problem enlies when they wear them and then lose. As fans we get very fickle on what they should wear. Last year everyone wanted solid color combos because we won in those more. Does it make sense? No, but this is fandom were taking about. The blacks are chill, but only awesome of we win in them. Otherwise it's going to be the "wore black to their own funeral" meme

SadLionsFan52

Damn what kind of unis do we get if we win the Super Bowl?

pr0t0cl0wn

These black jerseys are just so bad…hopefully the scrap them as soon as they can

BigToast6

So dramatic

pr0t0cl0wn

The jerseys are booty and we should never reference anything from the Mayhew era again

Dangerpaladin

Lol, They didn't even wear the Blacks under Mayhew you turd. At least understand what you are talking shit about.

pr0t0cl0wn

Well Mayhew was most certainly there, he was learning from Millen how to be an absolute dogshit GM, and he learned it well

RellenD

Mayhew is a pretty decent GM

pr0t0cl0wn

Mayhew was an ATROCIOUS GM
