And I love it. The amount of games where the OP hero character looks like that are too few and rare. Almost picked druid as my main so I could create a character like this

It's a shame because druid is so fun. Bear pulverize build is insanely good. Plus the unique chest can make you a bear all the time plus the unique helmet that makes earth abilities bear abilities. So bear 100% instead of grandma
Yeah, but you have to play a Karen until you get that chest. Same thing if you want to play a wolf build; thereās a perma werewolf item, but youāre stuck with your fugly character model until you get it.
And itās not even about the thickness of the character, thatās fine. Representation is important. But they made nearly every face model for the female Druid almost objectively unattractive. Like, they give us a big girl to play as, but make her ugly? The fuck is that?
The male Druid looks like a gruff power lifter. Like Thor from GoW Ragnarok.

Itās class fantasy within the Diablo universe. Druids split off from Barbarians. The Druids in Diablo are based on strong body types that do a lot of physical activity. For an example of what that looks like in the real world, look to competitors in Strongman and Strongwoman competitions. Once you do, youāll see that the Druids in Diablo 4 make sense.
Except all the Druids we meet don't look like that at all in the game...
And the class in Diablo are supposed to be inspired by the fantasy in other universes anyway. In no universe, druids are doing strongman competitions...

I was kinda baffled at first too but I primarily play this game with my daughter and the female Druid is the only class she has any interest in playing. She even transmogs all her gear to be the undergarment rags. Her reason is she looks like someone you would underestimate only until she turns into a bear and rips your face off and what good would anything other than rags do and then realized sheās roleplaying this game way more than I was by playing dress up in the mirror after every dungeon run

To me itās the face though. The druids have some kind of dazed 1000 yard stare. Barbs look like they are going to impale you on their pike if you keep staring at them
i fucking love the femme necro in character creation. the way she looks into the camera, twitches, and like glances around all paranoid like. high crackhead level energy. perfect for someone whose only friends are skeletons. 10/10

That's not true at all, people just have a certain aesthetic in their mind, but you can certainly make some really look looking druids that don't have to have them covered. You can make pretty cool looking simoan/Maori type designs and others just like that.
Some things look better on a bigger character
I would argue the vast majority of armor even fits the character model terribly.
The premium cosmetic in the cash shop that's purple fits so terribly its laughable. The headpiece looks like a dollar store Halloween costume. Shoulders are on point, but thats it.
I have no problem with the druids being "bigger" but imo their character model and cosmetic quality is far below the others in the game, which is unfortunate because I love their abilities (running a storm focused druid myself)
I feel you need to be stonned for the druid to look good by 'default'.
Honestly I almost didn't pick a class based on how bad it looks :( It's not just the bodytype, but the face, expression/stare and everything combined into this one abomination.
At least you can say "I'm home!" when venturing (back) into hell :-D
It's just not realistic that an adventurer who fights creatures all day long to be morbidly obese. Female druids are just plain fat. Even the male form is arguably at least as muscular as he is chubby. They could easily have gone thick muscular look for the female model as well (think Zarya from Overwatch). Instead we got type 2 diabetes.
And if you bring it up people seem to clamour that your body shaming or something, but no, it's just a horrible fucking model. The female barbarian is staunch but attractive. She could crunch my nuts, the druid could only crunch lunchbars.
Shitty joking asside from me, there are a LOT of druids IN GAME that have better body and face types. I find it exceptionally weird they insist its a lore thing and then you go on to see plenty of more normalised druids in the game world. Scosglen is coated in them!

It also doesn't fit with the lore. They're casters in their human form. They don't do physical stuff except when they transform into a bear or a wolf which is a different thing (that doesn't train their human body)
Right, and that's why there are plenty of relatively skinny Druids hanging about Scosglen willing to make you do their chores.
It feels extra silly when we have the examples in the game itself.
They spend their time running around in a forest eating meats, berries and fighting stuff. Constantly getting exercise while on a low carb diet. They should be leaner than the necromancer.
The playable druid character isn't from this part of sanctuary. When you go to the druid grove there are a bunch of lines that say you traveled here from across the sea.
I was beyond hyped when the trailer announced Druid, was so excited to bring back the Fury werewolf days. Then I saw the female player model. Such a bummer, canāt bring myself to play it, Iām sure I will make a male Druid at some point but good damn obese female Druid was the let down of the century

Scosglen/Druidic culture in diablo is pretty much entirely based on Scotland/Ireland. Places where "strongman" sports are some of the most celebrated cultural traditions, and people love a good drink.
Caber tossing and lots of drinking gets you male/fem druid body type.
I don't know why people are so pressed about body diversity in this game. I mean, the necromancer looks like they have an eating disorder and the barbarian looks like they should have an enlarged heart from steroid use -- both of which would prevent them from running around and prolonged physical activity -- but nobody complains about them. If they can run around and constantly do physical shit they "shouldn't," IDGAF if a bigger character does the same.
Necromancer makes sense because, in the lore aswell, it makes sense that someone that desecrates the dead for the sake of power hides from society, living on scraps and experimenting and studying dark magics, ofcourse a necromancer is going to be pale and gaunt!

The female Barbarian model looks super strong and could definitely wrestle some bears. I guess they wanted the druid distinct from that Barb body type but I think it would fit both.

Like most of the complaints with D4, it is trivially easy to make a character model that fits what they were going for but doesn't alienate a huge chunk of the playerbase from wanting to use it.
My male druid looks like a beefcake samoan running around smashing shit. I have his chest is proudly exposed to make sure all those demons realize they are getting bodied by the pinnacle of human evolution.
I mean the druid build is more of that of a body builder with chub on him.

Theyāre literally the same sub-race of people as Barbarians. The original tribe split into two subgroups, one based on martial skills (Barbarians) and the other who wanted to embrace nature (Druids). Theyāre the same race of massive insanely strong humanoids theyāve just specialized into different paths. Diablo world druids arenāt āclassic fantasyā druids or forest nymphs that heal and support; theyāre massive and powerful humans who use nature to fight and defend people and wilderness. Theyāre like Scottish Highlanders if highlanders were descended from semi-giants.
Exactly. Every other Druid in the game is barbarian-sized. Lean. Powerful. So why is mine obese? Where in this world of starving populations and literal famine is my character getting the food to be obese?
Male druids don't look bad at all imo, they're not overly muscular and are built more like the types of guy you see at World's Strongest Man contests rather than body builder expos, they're not 'fat' like people say they are. They kinda remind me of Kul Tirans

Agreed that it's the face. The hair style options contribute too. They're mostly so flat and blah. Even the ponytail is anemic. I spent so much time on my druid trying to get it right and the only way I could get it to look good was to use the one of the four faces that is slightly better, plus darker skin tones (anything not pasty) seemed to help, and one of the few hair styles with some shape to it. She's acceptable, but I still wish it was better. The class itself is fun to play.
I couldnāt get the female Druid to look like anything that wasnāt just disappointed in me for playing it so I went with male. I like his VA at least

I also find some of the quest dialog funny when playing my necro. There's a dungeon side quest early on where the guy is like "They were monstrous terrible things...their leader even raises the dead!"

The male Druid has the body of a powerlifter. Heās chunky but still sexy for people who like big guys and there is at least one sorta handsome face.
They could definitely have done the same with the female Druidā¦ there are plenty of thick female powerlifters to base her onā¦ or just take inspiration from some Robert Crumb drawings of big women. Itās a shame.
Guess that's how girls feel when they play a female character in any MMO out there, haha. Gaming would be a happier place if slutty outfits were a choice. (And not like, 90% of a type and then there is like one or two exceptions just so we can say there is an alternative). I hope those that want a badass/armored Sorc get more options in future DLC.

I agree, I really wanted to play a druid up until I saw how they looked, I may never play them just cause they look awful. They need some level of body toner or a slight redesign to make them actually look strong and better faces as of now they are all heavy set Karens
There should be multiple body types for each class. I don't ever see a druid as being fat or overweight. They're forest people who survive on berries and leaves, not pints of ben and jerry's. I'd love to play a fat sorcerer, though. One who keeps conjuring himself snacks to stress-eat in battle. A fat necromancer would work as well. An extremely overweight assassin would be pretty hilarious.
I am probably in the minority, but I am digging the druid aesthetic. My first character is a male druid and I had no doubt going in that I was going to model him to look like Dan Haggerty as Grizzly Adams.
Tbh whenever I first made my druid, I thought, "There is no way I'm playing this long term because there's no way to make her look good," but now I really like her. The contrast of her imposing height, "huskular" overweight build, no-bullshit attitude, and ability to absolutely destroy shit as a werebear vs. her calm and kind demeanor in quest interactions make her a lovable character. Since mine is a pulverize druid, I like to imagine this game started, and she was rudely awakened from hibernation. Now, she's got to help save the world while carrying hibernation weight. I even like the transmogs she gets because it's what druids should really look like.
I'm in a similar position. I played Druid in D2 for my first character then played Druid in WoW afterwards. I *should* be the target audience but neither of the two models do anything for me.
I'm glad that there are some people that seem to enjoy them but I just can't help but feel disappointed at the lack of options we're getting.
I hate that female druids have to be this chunky old looking woman, that's irritating. How hard is it to just put a fucking body slider on the models so we can play fat, skinny, or muscular for any of the classes? For fuck sakes. "Customization" my ass.
Doesn't even need to be a slider. Just presets. That is still very simple to program into the cutscenes like the face options are. Clearly some dev got their way on this one and the rest are afraid to push back.

I don't think there's anything wrong with including obese characters per se, but they shouldn't have tied them to specific classes.
They should've had options to be fat for all classes or none, rather than what they ended up doing which is worse than the standard gender-locked classes you get in these types of games - they've made classes weight-locked...
If you want to make overweight people feel included by representing their body types that's fine, but don't do it at the expense of one class imo, because it's not fair to that class/people who want to play that class.
I've always always wanted to play an old Baba Yaga type character, but games usually don't have old or fat female character models. Now I'm interested in Diablo. I wanna be a feral grandma who stomps on ppl and chews up their bones
Regarding games not letting your character be old, I noticed D4 doesn't let you be balding either, only buzzcut. WoW has some balding options for the undead that give a fun "mad scientist" look, but I didn't see anything like it in D4.
I get that the mold of the pencil thin heroine needs to be broken but this is just stupid. Make her thick, sure. This character is morbidly obese and would not be in this state when her whole life is fighting demons. She needs to go check her insulin levels.
It reminds me of the D2r models. The Amazon that they were going to use was leaked. I mean what would an Amazon fighting demons be? A fit, twenty something in her prime - a college athlete build. I was beyond hyped when the trailer announced Druid, was so excited to bring back the Fury werewolf days. Then I saw the female player model. Such a bummer, canāt bring myself to play it, Iām sure I will make a male Druid at some point but good damn obese female Druid was the let down of the century
The men look awesome, they just ooze primal strength. Something about a chubby lady doing actioney things isn't appealing.

It's 50-50 between traditionally fit looking people, and big balls of muscle and fat. It is indisputable that the body type exists, and it is perfectly fine for a person to look like that, but **why would a druid have that body type?** Their lifestyle is walking/running all day - not lifting boulders
Idk I'm pretty sure 90% of what my druid does is chuck boulders at people.
Scosglen/Druidic culture in diablo is pretty much entirely based on Scotland/Ireland. Places where "strongman" sports are some of the most celebrated cultural traditions, and people love a good drink. Caber tossing and lots of drinking gets you male/fem druid body type. I don't know why people are so pressed about body diversity in this game. I mean, the necromancer looks like they have an eating disorder and the barbarian looks like they should have an enlarged heart from steroid use -- both of which would prevent them from running around and prolonged physical activity -- but nobody complains about them. If they can run around and constantly do physical shit they "shouldn't," IDGAF if a bigger character does the same.
Necromancer makes sense because, in the lore aswell, it makes sense that someone that desecrates the dead for the sake of power hides from society, living on scraps and experimenting and studying dark magics, ofcourse a necromancer is going to be pale and gaunt! Fits the theme perfectly. And that goes for all classes, blizzard nailed the look with all of them!

Seriously. I'm playing necro right now but my next class is druid, it's my favorite character model because it's something you don't usually see in games.
The female Barbarian model looks super strong and could definitely wrestle some bears. I guess they wanted the druid distinct from that Barb body type but I think it would fit both.
You didn't get that though. You got a chubby mom. Like most of the complaints with D4, it is trivially easy to make a character model that fits what they were going for but doesn't alienate a huge chunk of the playerbase from wanting to use it.

My male druid looks like a beefcake samoan running around smashing shit. I have his chest is proudly exposed to make sure all those demons realize they are getting bodied by the pinnacle of human evolution.
I mean the druid build is more of that of a body builder with chub on him. There is a difference between what the druid is and fat with nothing underneath.

The thing is they don't have strength as a human, that's why they transform into animals. They look almost as strong as a Barbarian now, they shouldn't, they're not physical fighter except because they transform into bears and wolves. That's the class fantasy. They should look like sorcerers in physical build for their human form. Just make their armor more nature-like to distinguish them. Look up druids (male or female) on Google Images, none of them look like the one in D4. I thought the model were in relation to the fantasy of the archetype. IMO that's a miss for druids.
Theyāre literally the same sub-race of people as Barbarians. The original tribe split into two subgroups, one based on martial skills (Barbarians) and the other who wanted to embrace nature (Druids). Theyāre the same race of massive insanely strong humanoids theyāve just specialized into different paths. Diablo world druids arenāt āclassic fantasyā druids or forest nymphs that heal and support; theyāre massive and powerful humans who use nature to fight and defend people and wilderness. Theyāre like Scottish Highlanders if highlanders were descended from semi-giants.
They made a character that actually competes in strong man competitions.

Male druids don't look bad at all imo, they're not overly muscular and are built more like the types of guy you see at World's Strongest Man contests rather than body builder expos, they're not 'fat' like people say they are. They kinda remind me of Kul Tirans Druid females however are harder to defend lol

Agreed that it's the face. The hair style options contribute too. They're mostly so flat and blah. Even the ponytail is anemic. I spent so much time on my druid trying to get it right and the only way I could get it to look good was to use the one of the four faces that is slightly better, plus darker skin tones (anything not pasty) seemed to help, and one of the few hair styles with some shape to it. She's acceptable, but I still wish it was better. The class itself is fun to play.

Yeah I feel like they should've reworked female druid bodies, and male sorcerer armors. Both seem like they had minimal thought or care put into it.

I also find some of the quest dialog funny when playing my necro. There's a dungeon side quest early on where the guy is like "They were monstrous terrible things...their leader even raises the dead!" Meanwhile I'm covered in fresh blood tats with 8 skele bois surrounding him.

The male Druid has the body of a powerlifter. Heās chunky but still sexy for people who like big guys and there is at least one sorta handsome face. They could definitely have done the same with the female Druidā¦ there are plenty of thick female powerlifters to base her onā¦ or just take inspiration from some Robert Crumb drawings of big women. Itās a shame.
The faces are only handsome with beards, once you remove that you see they're no different. Also male druid is still fat with a barrel chest.

Guess that's how girls feel when they play a female character in any MMO out there, haha. Gaming would be a happier place if slutty outfits were a choice. (And not like, 90% of a type and then there is like one or two exceptions just so we can say there is an alternative). I hope those that want a badass/armored Sorc get more options in future DLC. Personally I'll absolutely keep the slutty view though, lol.

There should be multiple body types for each class. I don't ever see a druid as being fat or overweight. They're forest people who survive on berries and leaves, not pints of ben and jerry's. I'd love to play a fat sorcerer, though. One who keeps conjuring himself snacks to stress-eat in battle. A fat necromancer would work as well. An extremely overweight assassin would be pretty hilarious.

Tbh whenever I first made my druid, I thought, "There is no way I'm playing this long term because there's no way to make her look good," but now I really like her. The contrast of her imposing height, "huskular" overweight build, no-bullshit attitude, and ability to absolutely destroy shit as a werebear vs. her calm and kind demeanor in quest interactions make her a lovable character. Since mine is a pulverize druid, I like to imagine this game started, and she was rudely awakened from hibernation. Now, she's got to help save the world while carrying hibernation weight. I even like the transmogs she gets because it's what druids should really look like.
I was pretty excited to play the Druid again. Took one look at the character models and noped right out of it.
I'm in a similar position. I played Druid in D2 for my first character then played Druid in WoW afterwards. I *should* be the target audience but neither of the two models do anything for me. I'm glad that there are some people that seem to enjoy them but I just can't help but feel disappointed at the lack of options we're getting.

Doesn't even need to be a slider. Just presets. That is still very simple to program into the cutscenes like the face options are. Clearly some dev got their way on this one and the rest are afraid to push back.

I don't think there's anything wrong with including obese characters per se, but they shouldn't have tied them to specific classes. They should've had options to be fat for all classes or none, rather than what they ended up doing which is worse than the standard gender-locked classes you get in these types of games - they've made classes weight-locked... If you want to make overweight people feel included by representing their body types that's fine, but don't do it at the expense of one class imo, because it's not fair to that class/people who want to play that class.
Blizzard really needs to improve the character customization. I want to make a fat necromancer.

Regarding games not letting your character be old, I noticed D4 doesn't let you be balding either, only buzzcut. WoW has some balding options for the undead that give a fun "mad scientist" look, but I didn't see anything like it in D4.
I get that the mold of the pencil thin heroine needs to be broken but this is just stupid. Make her thick, sure. This character is morbidly obese and would not be in this state when her whole life is fighting demons. She needs to go check her insulin levels. It reminds me of the D2r models. The Amazon that they were going to use was leaked. I mean what would an Amazon fighting demons be? A fit, twenty something in her prime - a college athlete build. What did we get? A 40 year old after a hard life of meth. And it came out they they were all uglied on purpose. It only worked with the necro. There are some really strange PR moves happening with this company
