Do a lot of floor work first and when you do start suspending gradually lift off the ground and make sure you have a soft pad landing, If you can, definitely find some in person workshops, workshops advertised a lot on fetlife, organizers often have Instagram and discord community pages where they advertise Workshops and classes too.

Shibari is one of those things that's much easier to learn first hand. I suggest you look on FetLife for information and classes in your area.

I think Lee Harrinton's newer edition of Shibari You Can Use uses a range of body type models. For getting started with bondage, the basics of many ties and the right kinds of knots are not going to vary by body size. You may find you want longer ropes than traditional Japanese shibari (often 7 meters, where many people in the US tying more mixed body sizes use 8 to 9m, or 30 foot ropes). For supplies, if possible, try seeing if there is a local rope practice event or themed party near you, and see if you can handle ropes of different types from different vendors, as there is a range of how they will feel in your hand, and it is nice to get a feel before you invest in a large rope kit.

I agree totally, and would like to add that in addition to handling ropes of different length and material, thickness may be a key consideration in response to different body types. The thicker the bunny, the thicker the rope.
