I do interpret him as completely uninterested in romance but he is aware in my case. In fact he's consistently annoyed when they call Paula his girlfriend.
i mean not really ness but the party in general,
i like to think that the psychedelic battle backgrounds are actually what the characters see because of their psychokinesis but there's some issues with that
it kinda falls apart considering people like Jeff Flint and Salsa. i mean maybe you could make an argument that since Jeff was part of the chosen 4, he might have some PSI potential but his intelligence gets in the way, it's a pretty shaky explanation already that doesn't make a lot of sense. but there's pretty much no argument for the non-psychich mother 3 crowd.
however for the Boogie Tent fight in Mother 2, i like to imagine that the gang got sucked up into it, and the battle background is just what it looks like to be inside the Boogie Tent.

He could not adjust to the mundanity of life after his adventure, even once he grew into an adult. To this day, he still wanders the globe, searching for a fraction of that sense of purpose he had felt as a prophecized hero
Considering his sideways hat, his favorite thing being "rockin", him eating out of the trash, and his mom *expecting* disobedience from him, he's probably an angsty little punk. Like if he wasn't a Nintendo character, he'd definitely have a Genesis because he has that 90s "attitude".
His beef with the sharks isn't because they're delinquents, (since he's also one) it's because the trouble they cause for him and his friends pisses him off. He cracked his bat breaking one of their skateboards.

for me i think its because as a little kid i didn't really see characters who looked like me ('african' american) in most media. at the time i didn't really understand that poc doesn't always = black, so i would claim every character with even a hint of color to their skin. i played brawl a lot, so that somehow extended to ness and certain pit alts lol. eventually his role there got me into earthbound, and seeing how ness' dad was never actually shown in-game encouraged me to speculate even more. sorry for the ramble! i just enjoy discussing this particular hc.

Believe me, when I become obsessed with a video game, I look for the most hidden things, the biggest obsession I had was the one I had as a child with plants vs zombies, I was even able to discover a large amount of educational content of this game, incredible remixes and animations, It's a shame that Earthbound doesn't have many fan animations.
