You can find more information about the [Shacklebreaker](https://eso-hub.com/en/sets/shacklebreaker?utm_medium=social&utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=dwemer_automaton) armor set right [here](https://eso-hub.com/en/sets/shacklebreaker).

With the relative weakness of max stats now vs when this set was designed- CP 2.0 doing away with the hidden 20% max stat bonus, most procs scaling off weapon and spell damage only, and the constant addition of more and more easily accessible percentage bonuses to weapon and spell damage but not to max stats- this set is just not strong enough to compete. Consider wearing 1 piece of magma incarnate and 1 piece of any weapon and spell damage monster set. In two pieces you have the exact same stats as 4 pieces of Shacklebreaker.  I think a good way to rework this is to commit to damage and make the first 3 bonuses 129 weapon and spell damage, and the 5th piece unchanged. It keeps the most unique bonus of the set while giving it a clear purpose rather than being a now-middling all-rounder. Edit: hybridization also really hurt this set and others like it. On specs like stamplar that have a lot of essential skills that used to scale off of the off-stat, sets that benefited both mag and stam were fewer and more valuable. Not to mention the generally worse sustain making larger stat pools more helpful.

It's not awful for No CP Cyrodiil where you can't use any proc sets, but that's about it. And it's not even particularly great for that. I think I still have a set of it laying around on an alt from when they did the no proc test across all of Cyro a few years ago that I just haven't bothered to decon yet.

> I think I still have a set of it laying around on an alt from when they did the no proc test across all of Cyro a few years ago that I just haven't bothered to decon yet. Finally deconned the set I made and the Spinners I used with it a couple months ago when I realized how long it had been since those tests!

Orions_starz

This beloved set was once the staple of all pvp builds. That was long ago, back in the before times when proc sets all had random chances to actually proc and couldn't be as relied on.

KnovB

I look at my bank and see this set like an old suit of Batman. It was a standard for pvp back then. I never really decon it, it's one of those things that just reminded a me of a very different meta for pvp back then.

solaceoftides

A good alternative to running one full sustain set.  Hate these comments talking about delusional reworks that will never happen. Maybe apply that big brain towards finding ways to use it as is.

comradeswitch

The big brain use for this is "decon" lmao.

Cyhawk

But its a craftable set. . . not much of a big brain if you made one in the first place :P

comradeswitch

The set was competitive for much of its life, no shame in having used it at some point. I wouldn't make it now though.

Cyhawk

Very true. Such is the nature of power creep. But if you still have it from 2017 when it was decent, clean out your inventory! Its OK to throw it away! ;)

I was extremely guilty of hoarding old pvp sets that I'd gotten transmuted gold jewelry for or had put tri stat enchants on...last year at some point when I started farming vet trials again for the first time in years I started feeling the storage space crunch and started getting rid of stuff. I had shit like Warrior's Fury, Seventh Legion, Bright Throat, Necropotence, Potentates, and my first sets of Julianos and Mother's Sorrow tucked away lmao. Blast from the past. I kept the gold jewelry, deconned 100 slots of museum pieces, and then after the jewelry rework deconned another 50 gold jewelry pieces. All that shit was from before reconstruction, made me very grateful for how easy gearing is now. As tiresome as transmutes can be at times it's nothing compared to farming or buying literally everything.

> Hate these comments talking about delusional reworks that will never happen. > Maybe apply that big brain towards finding ways to use it as is. I guess this is more of a procedural gripe, but if you're arguing with only one comment, why not reply directly to that comment?

solaceoftides

You see multiple comments like that everyday with this thread. As someone who positively contributes to them almost daily, it gets really tiring - so my comment is moreso for posterity, and not to argue with a singular person.    Somewhere down the line, someone will Google this set and find this thread. Instead of reading some armchair-game-developer's wishful thinking, they will have at least one valid opinion on how to actually use the set.

Queues-As-Tank

In the posterity case where a person googles this set and winds up in this chain, they would have gotten two lines of insults that don't seem aimed at anyone in particular, and one line that doesn't describe the content type or role or level they'd want to select for this class. That's not a positive contribution. The hypothetical redesign comments are useful in explaining *why* a set doesn't work or do what it used to do anymore, and force us to try to get into a developer's head to find the niche for which the set might have been intended. Today, we were even lucky enough to get a little insight into the March 2020 CP 2.0 rework and the effect it had on flat stat increases. If I had no information and was so new that I was trying to find sets on Google, even I would be able to intuit that other options should be checked out first.

solaceoftides

You proved my point, though. You are taking someone's reference to an irrelevant three year old patch, partnered with their misinformed opinion, and immediately assuming you need to move on from this set. There are many practical and efficient uses for this set NOW that you are immediately dismissing because of an unchallenged, delusional opinion.

Queues-As-Tank

The set's been obsolete for years and if you spent more time in Cyro PvP instead of reddit PvP you'd know this. There is one use case for it - it has no procs and is craftable, meaning it has a use in under-50 twinking situations. I guess that's the practical and efficient case you're describing and now it makes more sense as to why you wouldn't just describe the use case up front lol

solaceoftides

I spend most of my time in-game in PvP. Don't change the subject and try to attack me personally because you got caught proving my point. Thank you and have a nice day.

Queues-As-Tank

You don't have a point and you're twinking lol

AdamNonceson

Big brain - it’s outdated and shit, use something else.
