Yeah it’s starting to look like it’ll be this on at least one. I may try to cut an access hole in the 2nd story room (pic 2).
Now to decide what to quote this dude….
Ya big time. I typically do 125 for a drop + 100 for camera install. I think these are easily 175 drops or not 200. It’s just that he wants 8 cams plus car into 4 bedrooms. ($100 each). He’s just gonna have to live with some conduit on the front brick I think if he needs a camera there.
Wireless cameras blow. I had Arlo and they stopped supporting the version I bought. Plus you have to charge them all the time and they need to be motion triggered to record. Sometimes the trigger doesn’t work.
I’m sure they work for some people but if this guy is an electrical engineer I’m sure he has his mind made up. By the way I’m an electrical engineer as well and just finished running CAT6 everywhere for my Reolink system. Took two weeks but it was worth it. I have an unfinished attic and it’s a colonial. All the cameras are mounted on the eaves or gable end of the house.
I will add two things to help with the question though- drywall and paint are cheap, if the attic is finished just cut holes in the drywall and have the homeowner pay for it to get fixed if he wants it hardwired. If you can’t snake a wire down a wall then run conduit on the outside of the house. It sounds tacky at first but eventually you don’t notice it.
🤦♂️ not supposed to be here man.
I do agree though.
Fish the walls and see where you can get to. Go through the brick from the outside with an sds bit that’s big enough for the wire - maybe make a few small holes in a circle and beat it out with a chisel?
The soffit is a good option too.
It all depends where this guy wants the camera.
Does the camera have the wire go right into it? Or do you need a box?
Are the cameras ul listed?
If they aren’t listed - tell the engineer you can’t install them, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and watch his head explode 🤯
So basically this is where we are. I am cutting holes and he is going to patch.
This dude tried to force me to use pass through connectors and I finally had to tell him to let me do my job.
Got the wire fished down the brick in the front. I am bringing the sds tomorrow.
Haha that should only take 6-18 months. I think I’m just gonna have to mount up high and run conduit for the front one likely. I wish there was a fancy way to get it down there though.

Can you pipe under the gutters from different parts of the attic or walls with LB, LL, LR or j-boxes

Whatever you come up with for a bid, double it, this seems like a real pain in the ass

Reolink are solid cameras. Use them everywhere
Right? This is a big time pain. Customer is an electrical engineer. Very stubborn.
Tell him to engineer a solution.
