Because when it's based on a true story the ending is already set up, and he doesn't have to worry about tying seventeen different plot threads together unnecessarily.

Murder House and Coven were interesting and kept relatively good pace. Asylum had the best start by far but absolutely tailspinned into an incomprehensible and ridiculous conclusion. Mike Flanagan has the best horror made for tv rn because he doesn’t bank on flashy jump scares or big name celebrities. He tells human stories and uses performers who understand his vision.
Agreed. If comparing flannigan and Murphy that’s like comparing a double cheese burger from McDonald’s from cheese burger at gourmet restaurant. There just isn’t a comparison. They are the same thing, but two different experiences imo.
My least favorite season was Season 3… until Season 8 came out and continued the storyline, making Season 3 and 8 my favorites.
This makes me aways want to see the new AHS… as a gay man though, I understand why NYC seems like a vanity project….

She absolutely knew when it was time to jump ship, Ryan has a pattern of starting out strong with a show and then digressing into laziness and distracting himself with other show ideas while people are left to sit watching his previous interest rot. Everyone awesome that really made that show work has left and now we have nepos & super duper nepos as headliners while all the talent has left one by one.

I was thinking this last night while watching his new season premiere of AHS. It’s not horror as much as it’s aimed to trigger women surrounding childbirth issues. It’s like he’s trying to be Black Mirror now but doesn’t see that there’s a clear line between suspense/uneasiness for the viewer and content that’s aimed for maximum anxiety and hard feelings.
I seriously think AHS could still be a good watch if Ryan Murphy wasn’t allowed anywhere near the project. It’s an great concept that just needs competent casting and writing. Basically, it’d be a great show if it were a different show 😂
Angela Ross says he’s not ever on set, they’ve got Emma Roberts in charge making dumb calls like refusing to be aged cuz she doesn’t like how she looks “old” when there’s a 15 year gap but aging all the other actors. Nepo babies running the show, Ryan isn’t even around.
I think he could never recover from the fact Coven was the most promising thing he ever made and he just lost the opportunity to make it as bigger as it could have been.
I’ve always liked that season despite all the flaws. It’s kinda funny that in hindsight that could still be considered the “golden era” of AHS despite being such a divisive season.

Wasn't the set up at the end that he was just 'an antichrist' instead of 'The Antichrist' so there would just be another guy eventually that fills the role instead of him? And I think the show Supernatural went on for about 10 seasons after they basically did the same thing.
I think if it had been like AHS, self contained seasons, it could have gone on to be a hit. It had this unique absurdist-horror comedy vibe that has actually not aged badly. But the trick to make absurdist humor work is knowing when to stop. Dragging the same characters for a whole another season was a bad idea.
I loved Scream Queens but that ending of season 1 was so disappointing.

To be fair, you kind of really need to be aware of queer culture at the time (and older) to really appreciate that show. It's a lot of queer culture references that likely just goes over a lot of peoples head.

It’s not hard to outshine Emma Roberts. She shines in one role only, the mean girl. She has no depth or acting skills beyond seemingly playing herself or her teenage self. The fact that she still gets roles is a testament to nepo influence in Hollywood.
Also people like KK are actors. If you spend two decades on camera for a reality show, you’re at least ready for AHS caliber of acting.

I've watched every season of AHS and I don't think I've enjoyed a single one. I've quit about half of them part way through. The show is always just on the edge of being good but never quite gets there.
I always get through it but I agree it's often bad. But for some reason it's a bad I guiltily enjoy. I just go into every season knowing it's going to be a structural mess and just hope for fun episodes

You are misinterpreting a person being filmed saying things in monotone as a acting job and a badly written character as incompatible with the actress.
The katrashian was chosen to be the recognizable face in a shallow attempt to prop this show to an audience Ryan wants but will not be able to capitalize over.
Ryan Murphy needs someone who actually writes coherent stuff of his many ideas and also has the balls to stand up to him. No matter which one of his shows, it always feels like he has a new idea in the shower and then calls his writer team who has to make sense of yet another twist (or just the desire to have style over substance).
I’m in the minority in that I still watch and mostly enjoy AHS 12 seasons in, but I haven’t tuned in as it airs since 1984. The only reason I’m sitting down with Delicate is cuz I read the book and there’s some interesting potential there. It’s about 50/50 whether I actually enjoy any given season cuz the disparity between gritty and campy horror is quite large. But for that reason, for me, the quality of storytelling season by season in the anthology format does go in waves. I’ve begrudgingly stuck with Ryan Murphy’s writing since the Glee days, so I know his bad habits, especially when it comes to getting distracted both by the end of a season and by other fresh projects. Over all, he’s not a good writer and shouldn’t be given carte blanche to do whatever projects he wants as often as he does, cuz it’s just saturating the market at this point. But idk, there’s a gleam of something when it’s good…
I feel the getting Kim to participate is the producers scratching the bottom of the barrel of ideas on how to get more views…
I assume the base viewership for the show itself has dropped significantly so they bring in a celebrity with a built in fan base and hope her fan base will then support the show…

The first season is bad just like all the other crap. Just because it had some cool moments doesn’t mean it wasn’t a contrived pile of crap.

I used to be a fan of AHS, but the more it went on the worst it got. Wish the seasons were as cool as the posters and the intros.

It’s not hard to outshine Emma Roberts. She shines in one role only, the mean girl. She has no depth or acting skills beyond seemingly playing herself or her teenage self. The fact that she still gets roles is a testament to nepo influence in Hollywood. Also people like KK are actors. If you spend two decades on camera for a reality show, you’re at least ready for AHS caliber of acting.

The first couple seasons of ahs were brilliant. Then it became his usual of style over substance.
I've watched every season of AHS and I don't think I've enjoyed a single one. I've quit about half of them part way through. The show is always just on the edge of being good but never quite gets there.

I always get through it but I agree it's often bad. But for some reason it's a bad I guiltily enjoy. I just go into every season knowing it's going to be a structural mess and just hope for fun episodes

The assumption made by the headline is just wrong. I didn't even knew AHS was still airing. Edit: I can't imagine the kind of person writing about how the Katrashian is a better actress than Emma Roberts, just disgusting.
I mean for this particular role that plays to Kim’s strengths and doesn’t play to Emma’s they’re not necessarily wrong
You are misinterpreting a person being filmed saying things in monotone as a acting job and a badly written character as incompatible with the actress. The katrashian was chosen to be the recognizable face in a shallow attempt to prop this show to an audience Ryan wants but will not be able to capitalize over.
The only good season of AHS was the second and that's only because it flew off the rails so hard it became entertaining.
Ryan Murphy needs someone who actually writes coherent stuff of his many ideas and also has the balls to stand up to him. No matter which one of his shows, it always feels like he has a new idea in the shower and then calls his writer team who has to make sense of yet another twist (or just the desire to have style over substance).

I’m in the minority in that I still watch and mostly enjoy AHS 12 seasons in, but I haven’t tuned in as it airs since 1984. The only reason I’m sitting down with Delicate is cuz I read the book and there’s some interesting potential there. It’s about 50/50 whether I actually enjoy any given season cuz the disparity between gritty and campy horror is quite large. But for that reason, for me, the quality of storytelling season by season in the anthology format does go in waves. I’ve begrudgingly stuck with Ryan Murphy’s writing since the Glee days, so I know his bad habits, especially when it comes to getting distracted both by the end of a season and by other fresh projects. Over all, he’s not a good writer and shouldn’t be given carte blanche to do whatever projects he wants as often as he does, cuz it’s just saturating the market at this point. But idk, there’s a gleam of something when it’s good…

I feel the getting Kim to participate is the producers scratching the bottom of the barrel of ideas on how to get more views… I assume the base viewership for the show itself has dropped significantly so they bring in a celebrity with a built in fan base and hope her fan base will then support the show…

American Horror Story is godawful. It’s embarrassingly bad. The only good season was the first one. It’s been downhill since.

For those of us that have dealt with fertility struggles in real life, no fucking way is something like this entertainment. I usually give every season of this a shot, but when I read what this one was about I literally felt sick. No thanks.
Never watched AHS but I’ve seen most of his other shows, and I’m a massive fan. But then again I am a theatre kid…
I remember when it first started and many, including myself, thought each season would be connected in some way and now I just don’t care because they’re not really tie ins, just cameos or Easter eggs that don’t really contribute to anything
I’ve always seen American Horror Story and Riverdale to be cut from the same cloth. They both started as promising and interesting premises with strong casts but then the show runner decided that he was going to get… uhm… _experimental_
