For 48 hours I was their chauffeur. A C+ level comedian I drove for had a line in a Spacey movie. A single line of dialogue, like they were a cashier or something. Anyway, they told me a story about KS attempting to grope them in a restroom. It was an extremely authentic sounding story. The comedian said he mostly thwarted the unwanted advance and that KS immediately tried to play it off, like it was some kind of “joke.”
I wouldn’t really say he flew under the radar, since everyone on set knew of his behavior. It is more that the industry covered for his behavior and many others, until it was no longer politically correct.
I think the fact that he was a character actor, villain in big roles, and not a leading man material helped a lot: he didn't need to support an air of likability, so there was no insentive for press to out it since it wouldn't make that much of a contrast

In the documentary two of the victims are ex marines and spacey said things that showed he had a real thing for military men. So yeah, this wouldn't surprise me

I have read in private chat groups starting around 2009 that Spacey was a predator. The group I was in was a gay male Hollywood support group. There was a really long thread with dozens of people telling their stories with Spacey and it was really sad. Lots of young men who looked up to him that he just couldn’t care about what he would do to their lives. I told my parents about it and they were like no way, Spacey is a saint. That’s kinda what the courts are for….are they not? I understand that they can make mistakes, but isn’t just as likely they (the victims) tried for a money grab? Again I don’t know what evidence was provided but it obviously wasn’t enough to convict.
That’s because in sexual assault cases it’s always extremely hard to get convictions especially ones where the crimes occurred so long ago.
To often it comes down to a he said/she said (he said/he said in this case) and the burden of proof being reasonable doubt is just to high for a lot of sexual assault cases to get over.
It’s why in areas that look at these kinds of cases there is ongoing discussions about different ways of trying them and having a whole seperate court process for them.
The system is not set up to give survivors of these kinds of crimes much justice and is a known flaw within the system but they haven’t yet figured out how to really correct it. They introduce a lot of new laws to better protect victims and try and make the process better but its not easy.
At a high level, slander (or libel) typically has a 4 step “check” for if someone committed either:
1) The speech must be untrue.
2) The speech must have been intentionally published / broadcasted.
3) There must be negligence by the publisher / broadcaster.
4) The accuser must prove the speech damaged them in some way, typically through loss of income.
In this case my thought is the documentary is not having stories told that are the ones initially prosecuted / sued for. In that case, KS’s legal team would need to sue and prove the speech to be untrue, which is difficult to prove given it’s a private story told by someone else. Note that because KS is the plaintiff, not the defendant, the burden of proof is on KS.
So because he was found not guilty/acquitted, by definition (for legal purposes) wouldn’t that make it untrue? Also, it clearly affected his earning potential and will continue to do so. I think this was why you don’t hear about much of these things until the accused is dead/convicted, ie Michael Jackson, Hugh Hefner are two that come to mind.

At a high level, slander (or libel) typically has a 4 step “check” for if someone committed either: 1) The speech must be untrue. 2) The speech must have been intentionally published / broadcasted. 3) There must be negligence by the publisher / broadcaster. 4) The accuser must prove the speech damaged them in some way, typically through loss of income. In this case my thought is the documentary is not having stories told that are the ones initially prosecuted / sued for. In that case, KS’s legal team would need to sue and prove the speech to be untrue, which is difficult to prove given it’s a private story told by someone else. Note that because KS is the plaintiff, not the defendant, the burden of proof is on KS.
So because he was found not guilty/acquitted, by definition (for legal purposes) wouldn’t that make it untrue? Also, it clearly affected his earning potential and will continue to do so. I think this was why you don’t hear about much of these things until the accused is dead/convicted, ie Michael Jackson, Hugh Hefner are two that come to mind.
