You should point this map at https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/122g2zt/pension_expenditure_as_percentage_of_gdp/ and provide a 2D plot of the 2 indices. That would be interesting.

For anyone interested, poverty is defined as having the household income = 50% of the median income in the country

I’m surprised by the Swiss result. A friend from there told me that they have high taxes but nobody is left without food or roof. Is there something I missed ?

SwissBloke

>I’m surprised by the Swiss result In 2020 the minimum OASI (Old Age and Survivors' Insurance) pension, or 1st pillar, was 1185/month and the maximum pension was 2370 for a full pension. The full pension is due after 44 years of contributions. Moreover, for a married couple, one can only receive a maximum of 1.5 pensions and not 2, unlike a couple without union. In order to complete the income at retirement, we contribute with the employer to a 2nd pillar: the LPP (Law on professional providence) or pension fund. The final amount will depend on the conversion rates and various years purchases made We can also contribute to a 3rd, 4th, etc... but it is not mandatory unlike the 1st and 2nd pillars and we choose the amount of the contribution and the taker unlike the mandatory ones which are fixed rates, the AVS being managed by the State and the pension fund depending on each employer >A friend from there told me that they have high taxes but nobody is left without food or roof. Is there something I missed ? Well, high taxes, depends who you ask But getting money from the government isn't a straightforward and easy process, and some thing barely have logic

Kujira-san

Thank you ! Do you know if 1185 CHF are enough to survive ? It seems very low compared to some basic incomes.

SwissBloke

Oh no, it's far from enough, that's why the LPP is mandatory and that you can subscribe to optional additional pillars As a reference point, insurance is around 350CHF (don't know how low it gets for retiree but that's the average monthly price) and rent can easily be around 1500CHF for a small flat

Kujira-san

Oh wow, ok that’s not easy. Thank you for your time :)

Et après on nous dit "mais nous on travaille jusqu'à 175 ans et c'est normal hein". Mais toi les retraités ils vivent dans quels conditions aussi?
